I studied there:

  1.
  2. We usually trained on the gravel road between Schoemansdrift and Parys. Schoemansdrift is about 40km outside Potch. We drove to Schoemansdrift by car and then cycled to Parys and back.
  3. I also trained at Elgro River lodge a few times. The routes there are 4x4 routes but they are quite ridable with a mtb. Elgro river lodge is close to Schomansdrift(downstream).
  4. About 20km out of town there are gravel roads going along the Vaal river all the way to Parys. I used to take this road and ride all along the river up to Schoemandsdrift. At Schoemansdrift I turned back and took the tar road to potch. If I remember correctly that was about a 90km ride.
  5. There is a gravel road between Boskop dam and the Venterdorp road which we rode a few times.
  6. We have done a few nice rides on the military grounds next to the Eleazer road as well, but you need permission to ride there.

I only started cycling in my final year at Varsity so the routes mentioned above is everthing I used to ride. I will phone a mtb'er I know who is still studying there and find out if there is anything else you guys can ride.
