Stolen from my Strand flat on 15th October, 2010. Red and Black team (medium) with Dura-ace and Ksyrium SL wheels, white SLR kit carbonio saddle, Deda Spectrum handlebars. Shimano FlightDeck fitted. Only got my act together to post it on this site now. Pic attached.post-1435-0-19784500-1293471975.jpg

Sad loss...... what comes to mind, where will the thief take it? He cannot really ride around with it, unless he is a dedicated cyclist. I wonder if the ring of thieves that was busted a while ago is not operating again. Strip and sell as second hand parts..... only real way to get rid of a bike like this without raising suspicion.

I might very well be wrong, but based on past experience and a little bit of time, here is what I think happened to this bike (the same thing that happened to 4 other bikes that I know of, but the police don't actually care):-

Frame (less the fork - that short little steerer looks out of place to me on the frame) - http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=251578962

Stem (and possible handlebar, can't see from the pic) - http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=251580696

My bike was stolen and found there about 3 hours later, the pedals were gone and the bolts holding the parts on were already loosened and on its way to the parts bin that quickly! 2 other bikes were found there (1 I found via gumtree), both were only frames, everything else was gone.

I am not accusing anyone of anything (not without conclusive evidence at least), but just an example of what I have seen and experienced myself. If you are looking for a stolen bike, don't expect it to look anything like it did when it left your house. No 'reputable' dealer could have a blatantly stolen bike on their floor.

Nah oom they do, ive seen a farm worker on a mongoose with DT swiss shock, a guy in overalls and gumboots ride a dual sus spez, another chap riding a scot speedster tattered cloting SPD pedals on the bike but he wears his flashy white tekkies.

(well at least the third one got the white cycling shoe thing)

I stopped two of the three mentioned above but if you phone the cops they just say can you prove its stolen.

If that guy is buying stolen goods i wont even call to find out if its there, i would just pay him a visit, hopefully its still there and hopefully you have your serial number that you can check it against the frame.

Was your bike found at the shop mentioned in the above gumtree adds?

It was before the shop opened, but same person... I like to think I have something to do with it at least becoming a formal shop and not a cash based garage special like it used to be.
