I have been a keen cyclist for some 15+ years and have been a member of a number of different cycling/sports clubs over the years. I have noticed a drive by the various sporting bodies TSA/CSA and ASA to get the good folks to become members of clubs and in so doing promoting and assisting the development of the various sports.

Now all fair and well but all the above bodies and some of the clubs I have been associated with (I shall mention no names) just don’t seem to have their membership processes and procedures in place not to mention the lack of communication between clubs and associations. They are all too keen to take your money but once they have done this they don’t seem too keen on actually recognizing or confirming the fact that you have paid and are now a bonafide paid up member.

Some of the problems experienced where paying and then waiting months and having to argue and provide proof payment was made, another was waiting months for membership cards, another is no running numbers for 2011 yet another is trying to get club and association to talk to each so I can get membership approved. This does not seem to get better as the years go by it gets worse. I find this very frustrating and amazing considering the improvements and availability of technology like the internet to assist with this.

The big question of course is am I a isolated case (I doubt it) or is there a general problem and what should be done to improve the situation ? Perhaps I have joined the wrong clubs ?

running vests for 2011 ?

You a runner ?

i do triathlons. if you participate in any run events it is compulsory to wear a club vest and ASA running numbers front and back. This year it seems the ASA have not printed the running numbers in time

CSA Membership for 2011, although pricey, was straight forward and easy.

We have received confirmation that the membership and racing licence has been approved and is already on its way to the local club.

We have also been able to download and print the membership card off their website.

If it continues like this in the future, the membership fees are well spent.

Quick question. Once people have paid their fees on the CSA site does the club get any form of communication from the CSA to say there are member applications waiting for approval ? If not how does the club know they must approve memberships ?

It appears that CSA communicates with the clubs. My CSA status has been "waiting club approval" over the holiday period and just today got an email from CSA to say that according to my club I have not renewed my membership so licence on hold. Sorting out with club now.

I think what we need is a centralized payment and membership system. the club loads your details on centralized website. you go on website and pay club membership and csa/tsa/asa etc one payment. the system then distributes the monies accordingly to club and relevant associations and does the member registration on csa/tsa/asa systems. the system can then also track and provide licensing info to associations, clubs and event organizers. ambitious but possible.

Was totally painless for me. Paid the club. A while after that I applied for CSA membership, and the process was totally painless and smooth! well done to all (Club, province and CSA)

You may use your 2010 runners licence till the end of Jan 2011. Runners have a very low tech, and not to mention a very smooth, cheap and painless solution for ASA membership mangement
