I've got Bontrager Revolt Super X's - is Stans gonna eat through my tyres and have them fall to pieces in the middle of the Epic..?

The only problems I had with stans and tyres were with the Revolt super x. I saw one set that were totally destroyed within 2 weeks. The stans "eats" through the rubber inside causing the tyre to bubble out.

The Larsons range and Conti's hold up very well thus far .
can also vouch for that: tread's worn on one set of explorers after six months, but the tyre's held up; and the larsens are into their third month with no hassles   holy roller2007-10-26 01:28:09

@&*^(*%#!!!   Soon as you decide on a plan of action, you find you're #&@&*d again!!

Had pretty much decided I'd give Stans a go, but it's gonna chow my tyres.  Right, so it's back to OKO in tubes.

Case closed.

Well if you wanna be miserable the rest of your life like Yes Tubes Stanley and always worry about getting a punture in a race then you will definitly have to keep your tubes .

Like they say, it's not the answers that are difficult it's the questions.   So, maybe my question, revised with all that I've learned in the last 6 pages, should be:

Hi All

I have DT Swiss rims (not tubless) and I like Bontrager Revolt Super X's.  Can anyone tell me how I can convert these to tubeless without suffering tyre meltdown due to sealant?

Regards

Dave

Dave I don't understand what you worried about !!!! As far as I know Botrager tyres works well with stans . I am sure your DT Swiss rims will also do just fine .

I am willing to bet that the Stan's didn't eat right through the tyre. Not even halfway. Please post photos of the "eaten out" spot on that tyre.

The tyre bubbles out not because the Stan's has eaten the tyre, but because there was a partial hole in the tyre on the inside, that didn't protrude to the outside - a hole left there by manufacturing and poor fabrication. Since the tyre is now a tubeless tyre, the air goes into that hole (or the Stan's, it doesn't matter which) and works its way along the channels left there by the porous cords and forms a bubble directly underneat the best sealed part of the tyre - the thread.

If this tyre had a tube in, the air wouldn't be there in the first place to find a little wormhole and works its way to the outside. However, take the tube out and it does. The fact that there was Stan's in there or water or brandy would have made no difference. It will be forced out if the tyre doesn't seal properly on the inside.

I'd still love to see some photos of this eroded tyre. If you don't have a camera with a nice macro setting, cut the piece of tyre, pop it in the mail to me at PO Box 31781 Kyalami 1684 and I'll do the photography and post the photos.

Andrew rode with Joes on the Epic, we changed at least 120 competitors including Team Rwanda's to Tubeless Joes and they couldnt not stop thanking us from that day,in fact Jock whom runs the TEAM was so impressed he with Joes he still contacts me on a regular basis.
