I would like to be very frank about what has happened during the past weekend with John aswell as with another fellow veteran league rider, also from Daikin. By the way, I do not ride for Daikin, yet I am supportive of them as fellow competitors. I am very concerned about the stupid rules which get imposed with regard to licensing and gear, yet the WPCF is not even able to seperate funriders from league riders!!! Quite frankly, the red tape and stupid politics and power play provokes riders to get outspoken and at the same time even consider a different sport. I wonder how many of these officials have ever been on a bicycle? We contribute to the CSA, WPCF, PPA and pay for our events. Sponsors pay for essential services, etc. What purpose does the WPCF still have there?

Cycling has become a circus in the Western Cape and it does not surprise me that many road racers rather consider Mountain Biking instead.

WPCA is not involved in PPA leagues, WPCA signs your contract so that you can ride for your team and get a license to participate in the Leagues.

Your club is affiliated to WPCA which in return is affiliated to CSA, which in return is affiliated to UCI (which bye the way implement the rules).

You guys want to be treated like proper cyclists, then you have to take the responsibility and behave as such.

Don't always put the blame on PPA, WPCA or CSA.

I'm also a great supporter of the team mentioned here.  One of my friends ride for that team and will always try and help them or any body who asks for assistance to promote cycling.  The same as I've done when you phoned me to have your contracts signed to be able to register for the league in time.

So no WPCA or PPA or officials are not busy with a witch hunt, simply they follow the rules.

Oooops. I must say, that you are very correct when saying that you were supportive of our teams cause. However, that relates to you only. I have not seen the same support with regard to officials, particularly when regulating races, such as the past weekends!

I am really horrified to hear what has happened here!! When the unification process started many years ago PPA was quite clear that for their rides these petty rules on kit would not apply (their is even a rule on socks). I discussed this last night with some people and they were of the opinion that leagues were not happening then - I disagreed.

For me this is the start of the beginning of the end! The PPA league will probably dwindle to what the winter leagues have become - It just not fun anymore to go to these events to suffer all the abuse! I know I have stopped going, but I really do enjoy Killarney on a Wednesday night without all the rules!
