I know this is Sacrilege, BUT, i would like to do the Argus Road Race on my Zula. What are the best MTB road tyres? Are there any tubeless MTB road tyres?

See if you can borrow a set of 29er wheels from someone and put real 28mm wide road tyres on.

29inch wheels will not fit on the bike, but hopefully you know that.

Why not? And don't tell me because it is 29". My racing bike wheels, 29", fits my 26" mountainbike. The reason why I said he must use road tyres is because of their low profile.

EDIT: here is a short discussion about it.

the only issue i can see is that the gearing will be really out of whack with a 29" as opposed to the 26"?

and the fact that you would need to get a disc (brake) on the 29"?

and the fact that you would need to get a disc (brake) on the 29"? Huh again. I've never seen a 29er with rim brakes.

Because its not goin to fit in the fork, wheel will touch the arch (my SID anyway) and The Zula at the back has a bracket (round aluminium thingy)that will touch the wheel.

hi ....

fit a pair of SPECIALIZED 26x1.24 slicks or if wanting a bit more comfort fit MICHELIN 26 x 1.4 slicks ..... which ever you fit , inflate to max and enjoy your ride

Look at this.

Notes from these images.

1) a 700x23c tire is almost exactly the same diameter as a 26x2.4 knobby.

2) anything larger than that probably won't fit into a RockShox suspension fork.

3) 700c tires are fast as hell.

Huh, why? the gearing has been created for knobblies (resistance) now you put a set of slicks on, you quickly run out of gears on the flat and downhill, and i assume that with a 29' with slicks you would run out, even quicker?

Look at this. 29er wheel with road tyre is actually 1.19mm small in circumference.

Wheel-----------Tyre--------Rim (ISO)--Tyre width---Wheel-----Circ

700c / 29er-----28 mm-------622--------28.00--------678.00----2130.00

26inch----------2.35 inch---559--------59.69--------678.38----2131.19

There is a very little change in cadence between 26"x2.25 and 700cx23. Rolling resistance is not calculated.

very interesting, so what's all the hype about 29ers being so much faster than a 26".
