amoryns I am really surprised that this thread has gone as long as it has without anybody asking the really serious question:

Can you post a pic of your friend, ideally on a couch of some sort?

no bikemonster...stay focused :-)

...was worth a try. :)

Brand specifics: I've been very pleased with my Scott CR1 which I've had for the last 4 years or so, and have no inclination to change anytime soon.

But really, get your friend to look at lots of bikes. When she finds one that moistens the tufty clump, that's the right one.

You can't go trusting a bunch of wise asses on the internet!

(Well, 'cept for me of course!)

splat how much for the giant. is it full ultegra?

Should be about R20K - Your nearest Giant dealer should help you out with a good deal.

Specs here

Mostly Ultegra with 105 brakes, chain and cassette.

Carbon frame with tapered steerer and pressfit bearings.

Merida specs from Cyclelab

The Cannondale CAAD 10 is supposed to be fantastic.

Rather focus on the correct fit and geometry than brand.

Get your mate measured up properly and choose a frame according to her size.

Possibly look at a Women's Specific Design (made for bodies with longer legs and shorter torsos) - especially if you are look at a small frame.

i find that the WSD bikes are much heavier

The WSD bikes usually have crap spec.

I dont know why.

It seems that some bike companies think that woman who buy WSD frames aren't serious.

Its kinda insulting and defeats the object of a WSD range.
