Hi there

Where can you ride safely with young kids? We want to do a few "training" rides with a 5 year old that is a confident cyclist, but I'm scared of traffic. The aim is to be ready for the 5Km Kiddie Argus.

Any ideas?

I tried the Sea Point promenade, but had a "little conversation" with the cops...

Thanks

Nitida (Part of the Tygerberg MTB club) has a beginners / junior singletrack section. Its all smooth and level, and you can keep an eye on the kids from the side.

If there is no southeaster blowing, Koeberg nature reserve is great for kids, but you have to get your head around riding in the shadow of a nuclear power station first.

Last year my son was 6 and insisted on riding the 10km. He didn't need any special training - if your littlie can ride his bike in the quiet streets around your neighbourhood for a 20 minute ride, then 5km won't pose any prob.

If all else fails, you could always ride in large circles in the open car park near Ratanga on an evening.

Meerendal has a nice easy kids ride.

There is also the new green point park, ive seen kids riding around there a bit, not to sure if its legal?
