I've developed a resonating sound coming from the rear brakes when used :( . I'm using a full XT component set, and it is brand-new (done about 400km).

It started after I've washed the bike just after a relatively dirty ride.

The pads aren't touching - the wheel runs 100% free, and the pads are not misaligned.

Also, I've tighned all bolts and nuts on the rear suspension assembly, and even tightened the QR skewer some more. But still this VVVVOOOO sound erupts when i'm braking lightly. It goes away when braking hard.

Oh, and i've taken out the pads, sanded them with 600 sandpaper, bent the little springy magafter that keep them in place, and re-mounted all.

Any ideas what can be the cause before I'm returning it to the LBS for warranty repairs?

Trapper I suspect that you have a little soap on the pads which should come off after you have braked hard a few times or some tomes after you wet it again. I think the soap gets embedded in the organic compound of the pad.

Another thing that worked for me was to loosen the bolts of the brake mount slightly and then pull the brake lever quite hard and hold it there while you tighten the bolts again ( you might need some help here). This seemed to align the pad and the rotor which removed some of the shudder or resonance as you put it.

Thanks RR, The alignment is not a problem - I think, but your soap in the pads might be.

I did wash the bike again today - Was a Groenkloof this morning     :D :P  - and the problem remained.

Maybe i must try some different pads...
