Does anyone own one of these beauties?

Any comments. Thinking of getting one or maybe a 2hand Scalpel. I've only ridden one of these in the car park of the LBS and it was very supple and surprisingly light. Obviously built more for marathon but can one do XC stuff as well, how well does it climb and so on.

Well priced for the spec at R27k.

Trying to make an informed decision :)

Haven't ridden either, but as you say it's probably built for comfort and longer hours in the saddle with a more upright position. Scalpel is much more XC orientated, with a much more aggro riding position.

I know I'd take the RZ as I enjoy longer travel bikes and I'm no racing snake.

Riding a Cannondale Rize..the 2009 version of the Rz 140. Thought i would never leave Scott because i loved my genius. Brilliant bike. I rode both the scalpals and rizes at last years Ride b4 u buy. Dont think i'll go back to a different brand. I was so impressed by it i had to get one. The setup i've got on it now is 11.5kgs and that's not very light components, but rather strong. Wheelset is 1900g. Cant rave enough about these.

Advantage of the Scalpel is also no pivot bearings etc on swing arm to wear out besides those in the 'frog'

Obviously less travel on the rear end of the Scapel so not suitable for downhill or jumps.

If I may ask, why did you choose the Rize over the Scalpel?

I ride more aggressively and like having 130mm travel at the back and 140mm upfront.I like hopping things too. Hardly do races so went for the Rize. The scalpal was amazing though.Climbed very easily. If i did more races i would have got the scalpal.
