Currently I have Tektro Augria brakes on my bike but these days the braking just seems rubbish. I scuffed up the pads and discs yesterday and its somewhat better today but I was thinking of replacing either the pads or rotors.

I have a windcutter rotor on the front, I think its 180 size, is there that much difference between a 160 and 180 disc?

Prehaps I should buy new pads first and see how that goes, they are still the original Tektro pads, over a year later and quite a few K's on them, but they are not 'worn' too badly.

Anyone else with the same brakes who has changed pads and rotors?

Maybe these:

Sadly, for some reason CWC or Buycycle do not stock Shimano Deore pads (compatible with Tektro).

Hi Mojoman

Auriga Comp?

160 > 180 mm rotors do make a difference to your braking.

Your Tektro Wave rotor should have a laser engraved size indicated on it near the bolt tabs, it will say 160 or 180. If you can not see it then the rotor has been installed the wrong way round. Or measure the Diameter.

You need Shimano M515's to go with Auriga. Goodrige also do a generic, I think it is also labelled 515??

If your rotors are not worn, ie you can see or feel a ridge between the contact surface and the rest of the rotor, then they should still be good.

If your pads are not unduly worn/thin then it 'aint them either.

When did you last bleed the brakes?

I'm also using Tektros, Tektro Dracos to be exact and my braking has always been excellent, even with the stock 160mm rotors, I have now fitted a 203mm Hope Floating rotor to the front, now the brakes are pure evil! It even ripped my stock skewers right out of the dropouts. (New skewers solved that though.)
