As promised, here is a report on my frame rebuild/build over.

Collected frame and groupset on Saturday. Problems with rebuild started immediately, as the BB was wrong. It is the Italian thread, and not British thread, which is what is needed.

Whilst sitting staring/glaring at the frame, something else struck me. It is a 54 COMPACT Cry frame, and I needed a 54 Traditional frame. In other words, the frame is way too small for meAngry. Top tube extension is good, but downtube is way too short. Can't even get the Seatpost extended far enough too get close to what is needed for my leg extension.

The front derailer (clamp on type) also is too small, it is a 31.8 mm, and I need the size bigger to fit the tube.

So, now I am back to square one. Do I look around for another Frame, do I try and swop this one for another one in correct size, do I just build the groupset onto my old frame (which is not really an option Cry)

 I will post pics of frame etc, as soon as I have downloaded it to my PC.

I AM SO DEPRESSED!!!!!CryCryCryCryCryCry

The solution is simple....BUY THE RIGHT FRAME, don't settle for something you do not want. If you wanted a  straight top tube then you should have checked first with whoever sold you the frame. What frame are we talking about here anyway.

Monoc TC2 Compact .

Yeah, I know, my stupid mistake. Should have double checked everything before handing over money. Will contact seller and see if anything can be done.

Ouch!!!!!

I certainly would not build up a bike if it was not what I really wanted, especially a Monoc. If it was a rare Colnago or Pinarello different story. A Monoc,  no way.

Yeah, but some of us work with tight budgets, and has to chase down supposed bargains in order to replace an ageing 15 year old bike.

I'm with you 100%. Will PM you later regarding a straight top tube alternative.

A 54 Compact should be larger than a 54 traditional. For instance, my Large Giant compact  is a 55.5, but equivalent to a 58 - 60. To measure the traditional size measure the length from the BB to where the imaginary traditional top tube would meet the seat tube. The imaginary top tube would be parallel to the ground from the head tube to the seat tube.

Delgado, no problem. The two sets of outside bearing cups is British, the octalink BB set is unfortunately Italian.

I have however organised a hollow crankset that works with the outside BB cups from a friend of mine. Will use it tonite to do mock setup to see if frame can be made to work.

Velo, measured from the middle of the BB, to the middle where toptube and downtube meets, is about 43cm. Suspect that is then closer to a Small compact.

Scorpione, open to any help/assistance/suggestions.

Velo is right. Measure your Horizontal top tube lenght, this is virtual on a sloping top tube. This is the most important measurement on the frame.  If it is the in the right range (in the 535 to 545 range for a 54 frame) just get a longer seat post which is a lot cheaper than a new frame. Went to Monoc's website, took all specs down for small, medium and large frames. Will measure tonite.

Ox Wagon, what worries me about the longer seatpost scenario is that the diffs between my handlebars and seat tip height will be too much. The steering tube has been cut very short.

Seems I'm gonna have too much trouble with this frame. CryAngry

That could be a problem but will depend on the head tube length.  I ride a 54 because I like a shorter top tube. All measurements say I should ride a 56.  I have a bunch of spacers to lift the front end a bit.

You can use BBB Extender to increase the length of the steerer tube.  This will unfortunately add weight. I used it to fix MTB front shock after I cut it to short many moons ago.Embarrassed  <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Ok guys, went home last nite, and took the following measurements as carefully and correct as I could.

Myself, Length/Height=1.79m

Inseam=85cm

Monoc                                 Daccordi

Fork to BB=60cm                 57cm

Downtube=62.5cm              62cm

Steerertube=13cm              13cm

Toptube=54cm                    54cm

Seattube=48.5cm                54cm

Rearstay=45cm                   51cm

chainstay=40cm                  40cm

Seatpost on Monoc=cut to 15cm

Virtual Toptube on Monoc=55cm

Will post pics later.

Decided to keep Daccordi frame for now, just fit Ultegra groupset to it for 94.7. After that, sell both frames/bikes and buy me one Decent bike/frame.

But your comments regarding the suitabilty of Monoc frame for me would still be appreciated.
