After watching a whole bunch of guys and their different drinking practices on the bike got me wondering. I see a bunch of guys take their bottle out and hold it out to the side before they drink, and then do the same before they put their bottle back in. I even heard a guy announce "Drinking" yesterday at the R4S.

My opinion, just take your bottle out when it is safe and drink.

Or is their an etiquette when it comes to drinking. I personally think the guys announcing they are about to drink are a bunch of ponces. I would probably guess you have less control worrying about warning people than just shutting up and getting on with it.

I must say I have never seen any pro's on TV or anywhere else announcing.

What do you think.

My friend's brother does the same thing... I am new to road cycling so I didn't have the b@lls to ask why he did it. I will ask him next time I see him if no response here.

I think the guys saying that they are going to drink are the ones that dont actually know what they are doing.

You dont see the guys in the elite bunch doing it.

Agree, I usually reply 'thanks for the offer but i have my own drink'

It can be quite dangerous, shortest route take out bottle holder, shortest route back.

Yup..... ponces...... wait till he yanks himself off the bike when he tries to do it with his Camelbak hose!!!!!!!

Take it next time and tell him he can get it back when he learns to behave. These dudes are normally also the ones that won't make it to the end with what they have left anyway.

They are the guys who are so concerned with telling everyone behind them what they are doing that they fail to see what the guy in front of them is going, which invariably is moving to the side or breaking and we all know how that ends up? Get it over and done with as fast as possible and get both hands back on the handlebars!!!
