Mampara - go on,  admit it.

There is no co-incidence in your avatar suddenly changing since the Hubber Awards 2007 post was put up.

You're hoping to hynotize us with that thing...

You're sending out brain signals right now....aren't you?

Aren't you.

Huh?

HUH?

Is a carbon hardtail more forgiving than an aluminium hardtail

It is definitely more forgiving ride. Meaning the carbon absorbs more of the trail-rattle although it is stiffer when pedalling hard and the steering is more precise.

LBB says he doesn't notice he's just going faster but ja that's how it is when you're 17 and 'supple, nimble etc.'!

Haven't had an opportunity to try for myself as he won't let me ride it, I paid for it for flips sake!

Rod, If I was trying for that award I would have used this avatar seeing that it looks like the norm these days.

Clown Mampara for president.

MTBiker - Apologies for the hijack.

But - as has been mentioned, you should feel a substantial difference btw the ride quality of carbon over alu.

Not that I have any first hand experience in this regard - but this topic has been debated at length on the Hub in the past, to the point where I can comment with a reasonable degree of confidence Embarrassed...

Of course - as with most things in life - what you win on the swings, you lose on the slides - i.e, Carbon has it's own downsides...

The most glaring being directly associated with TitusTi's comment - "don't crash your carbon", like ever.

Because it might break.

Having said that though - you will also get plenty of hubbers who are fortunate to ride carbon h/t's, who will refute this as well - saying carbon sometimes gets an unfair rap in this regard, and can stand up to a wipe or two...

So guess it all comes down to how you are willing to weigh up the pro's and con's - and more importantly, what you are expecting to get from the frame - and what you are willing to pay to get it!

Hope this helps...

Happy riding!

i've got a friend whos pranged his full carbon mtb impressively a few time and hasn't cracked the frame yet so it probably isn't as easy to brake them as many are led to believe.
