I've been training about 8-10 hrs a week since last year August when I set my mind on IM. After IM 70.3 I took off a few days and started training again, upping the hours to approx 11 per week until about the 10th of Feb.

Then sh!t hit the fan at work, so I haven't done anything since, and got back on the bike and in the running shoes on monday!

Almost lost no fitness and really feel great... No pains, no injuries, no long term fatigue, just feeling great!

Now i feel more ready than ever to up the hrs to 15-20 per week for the next 6 weeks!!!

Yip, suprising how a week or two can improve your training and mood. Rest is often neglected.

Very true, in the good ole days....I found that I ran my fastest 4km TT (run) times 2 weeks after IM, those 2 weeks I usualy did no training at all.

All the mainstream papers providing coaching / training methods are very definative when discussing the inclusion of rest in a training plan.

I have only been training consistently for 18mnths now, had 3 weeks off in Aug 2010, 2 weeks Dec 2010, and looking forward to 2 weeks after the Argus.

I have found those 'off' periods where I don't touch the bike at all, to be extremely beneficial. Over and above the body's adaption process, overload and rest, more significant for me was the psychological cleansing and rejuvenation that takes place.

I am thinking of trying the same process in my marriage.....

So you stick with your wife for 3 weeks in Aug, 2 in Dec and 2 after the Argus, the rest you are away?

With the Argus around the corner, it is a bit difficult to take some rest days now, but as from 14 March I will cooling off for about a week... can't wait to get up at 6 instead of 4!
