HI there, I was just wondering, I have Shimano XT bottom brackets (cups) with hollotech cranks and within in a year I have seized the left one twice and I probably average about 60k's a week , has anybody had the same problem.

They do eventually fail but my experience is that it happens after a few very muddy rides and the bike gets thrown into the bike room for a few weeks before cleaning it properly . After last years S2C the bike was stored for 2 months and both side seized up completely .

It is a crappy system and BB longevity went out with the Shimano UN 52 square taper BB.

Also, water in the BB itself enters the bearings and ruins them from the inside out.

Drill a drainage hole in your BB.

I go through a set every 4 months or so. I really should do the bearing change thing but too busy racing to work on it...ironic no?
