  1. Hey guys hope you’re all well. Any ideas about trail / enduro helmets (non full face) that don’t end up looking like a mushroom on your head? Agree safety is paramount but nice to look for an option that doesn’t leave you looking like a bobble head figure 🤣. Thanks for any ideas.
  2. Personal experience, NX is absolutely hopeless. My derailleur literally exploded riding on a slight uphill dirt road while spinning along, not even putting my meager power down. After 800km And my bike shop does a brisk trade replacing them with GX or rebuilding with the CSixx cage.
  3. Agree. Unless you ride a Curve GXR with carbon wheels and 29x2.4 tyres. 9kg magic carpet ride with nothing to go wrong and 100% efficiency. Changed my view on gravel bikes although I suppose strictly speaking that’s a monster cross or something.
  4. There is a thread on a local motorbike forum titled, “Don’t be a Twatwaffle”. Love to see people like Ossie and Love2Fly jumping on a thread about the functionality of the forum to perpetuate the South African prejudices that you need a dual sus for any MTB, that hardtails are for poor people and that being 82nd on a Strava segment rather than 87th justifies their input. Thanks guys. Let’s race and measure fun on any uphill, downhill, long or short ride. One of the best things about this sport is the diversity and different options that we are blessed to have. I have friends that ride rocky singletrack on 700c gravel bikes and another who rode a 500km tar and gravel route on a steel trail hardtail. Not to to say I won’t ride a dual sus trail bike but my hardtails have served me well and it would pay any doubters to try a modern trail HT for interest’s sake Before you post, think if your input is needed and if it’s useful or entertaining. Otherwise maybe go back to your Banting smoothie and indoor trainer to get a top 400 in a Zwift race. Thanks bye.
  5. What’s even worse is that a dear friend was killed riding in Glenwood last year by guys fleeing in a stolen Polo. He was off the major routes and knowing him, being careful. Drivers in SA are undoubtedly the worst in the world, Durban specifically.
  6. You cannot ride on a main road (outside of urban streets) in KZN, especially Durban and surrounds with any semblance of safety. The standard of driving in the 12 years I’ve lived in Durban has gone from bad to literally deadly. I am scared every day in my car. I’m so sorry for everyone involved. I’m sorry if this offends anyone reading this. But if it makes ONE of you think twice about riding on a M or R road and keep to circuits or an urban ride then it’s worth it. Love to the families and friends involved.
  7. I can chip in - riding the Stans Flow rims 29mm internal, the 2.6 Aggressors seem amazing. Roll pretty well but they hook up very nicely on the corners and that was at Giba Gorge which is super loose over hard. I am, however, coming from 2.3 XC tyres (Spez Fast Trak).
  8. Slade Trail? Looks EPIC! I'm in the process of buying a Slade after trying it over the weekend - what a blast. Also want to get the paint stripped off and customise as it's been used quite hard and needs a refresh. But first I'll thrash it some more haha
  9. Love where this trend is going
  10. Cool thanks. Seems silly that there is no capacity to make a change - last time this one was used was like 2005 and I think it has one reset on it. Wasteful.
  11. I've had a run in with this Sue lady today as well Is it really true that one cannot transfer ownership of a Championchip to a new person? I have two for some reason, want to give one to a colleague. She refuses point blank to change it into his name. IS this correct?
  12. On live tracking Martin seems to be over 100km ahead of Alex and Tweet - surely not?
  13. STILL think that my carbon hardtail MTB on 2.2 or 2.35 semi slick tyres is the fastest proposition with decent comfort on bad dirt roads. Once you factor in more than 30% tar the picture might change.
  14. That's a system that to me seems underdeveloped - surely with all the dropper tech and new suspension knowledge a 1 inch travel suspension seat post that's still light is possible?! Or is something like Spaz and Canyon's flex carbon seat post the way to go and makes the above unnecessary?
  15. Anyone seen the Silverback Slade? https://silverbacklab.com/news-article/?kid=NTIyMzE3Mjc https://silverbacklab.com/product/slade-trail/ - R 23 k for a pretty good spec?
  16. Wow that’s super value now!
  17. This thread is on a page that reminds me of a certain
  18. Finally pulled the trigger on a new ride. Going from my trusty and much loved Cannondale Trail 2 29er: Alu - Carbon 1 x 10 non clutch derailleur - 1 x 11 clutch Non boost front and rear - BOOST QR Skewers - Thru Axles (going to buy Allen head Maxles for aero and lightness haha) External routing - Internal routing Non tubeless rims running tubeless - proper Roval tubeless ready rims Shimano Octalink heavy terrible cranks - Raceface Crankset 12.4 kg - Sub 11 kg No name brand hubs - Specialized sealed bearing hubs Very keen to see what it all brings in terms of performance and hopefully durability. Specialized Epic Hardtail Comp World Cup aww yeah!
  19. Am I being super dof - I can only get the website to produce dollar pricing and it seems the be the US site. Even when I get to the German site and select South Africa it seems to auto direct me to USA. Or does one have to go to the cart, put in shipping address etc then they quote you the actual price?
  20. With added 33% it's R 39 k - not bad at all if you look at what you can get for R 40 k here. GX Eagle, DT Swiss wheels, same carbon frame as the higher spec ones.
