  1. If you’re battling with wrist pain etc do look into Ergon as they are designed specifically to assist with wrist / hand issues. Burgtec are great but only come in straight profiles. ESI also good, try the different profile ones like the Fit series as these can help align your wrist to the bars better. Thicker might provide a bit more damping but makes it harder to hold the bars when your hands are tired. Also consider basics like bike fit (too much weight on your hands?) and simple things like bar roll and brake lever / shifter angle which might be hurting your wrists.
  2. Keen! Trying to get a Midlands crew to come down.
  3. I’m not. I was there and rode one of the shorter races so feel that I am fairly well qualified to speak to the conditions.
  4. Argus is a harder route than gravel worlds was. There’s nothing stopping you from taking a descent slowly if you are worried about crashing. Study the route, ask locals about conditions if you can’t pre ride portions of route, put some tougher / bigger tyres on your bike and work on your skills. If you look at Matt’s bike he didn’t have huge tyres on, isn’t a light guy and was fine (clearly) on the descent. That’s the beauty / point of gravel racing, conditions change and are supposed to be challenging. Or it would be road racing. P.S. the section in question was the victim of roadworks where shale / gravel had been put down and due to the normal vagaries of SA public works, had not been fully crushed / compacted yet. The organisers made it abundantly clear both with caution signs and with repeated warnings in race briefing packs and prior to each batch start that the road was bad and caution had to be taken. All of the other jeep track / forestry road sections that are not manicured had at the least been swept and checked for any obstacles - one section I recently rode that was full of sticks etc from tree felling had literally been scraped clean so due care was 100% taken.
  5. Seeing as this is a the Glasgow dirt stuff thread that would be silly haha
  6. I haven’t had a chance to trawl the whole thread but Early Rider look like beautiful kids bikes - at a price of course.
  7. For the price of a two bags of groceries, DSTV really is easier if you don’t want to / can’t be bothered to jump through hoops.
  8. Look for more Enduro / Downhill type MTB shoes - Leatt, Specialized, Giro all make some. Often lace up type. Way wider.
  9. Just wrap the entire tailgate panel with VPS.
  10. As per other comments. At your weight and likely strength, with a bit of riding aka skill background, I’d be looking for a Silverback Slade Trail or similar slacker head angled, 130-140mm strong ass trail bike. You’ll find a good one used for R 15 k.
  11. I love how people are now using the term “Fairbrothering” as a joke term for bikepacking. That kid is super inspiring.

Everests, Olympus Mons, a million feet of vert in 200 days etc etc. Mostly in South Island NZ winter, on flat pedals, in a cotton T Shirt.
  13. Which is why any sport that relies on judging (rather than time, distance, weight etc) is not a sport but rather a fun activity.
  14. These guys will definitely be able to manufacture one for you; They seem to have made a swivel fitment for one of their racks. https://bikenetwork.co.za/first-look-vertorack-6-bike-tow-bar-mounted-rack/
  15. Previous gen Trek Fuel EX8. Proper spec and was well priced even brand new. As an example https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/633000/trek-fuel-ex8-2021-large
  16. I’m sorry but it’s useless. Even NX is terrible. Average shifting and doesn’t last. GX bare minimum on SRAM.
  17. Likely oops 🤣
  18. Hey Team Does anyone know where to follow updates on the Lifetime Grand Prix? EDIT - Instagram Life Time Grand Prix and Sea Otter Classic Sea Otter is this weekend I think. Very keen to see what Matt Beers can do after Epic and his BWR San Diego 2nd last year! I don’t know much about Catherine Colyn on the ladies side but wishing her all the best! Check out Call of a Lifetime on YouTube for race summaries of last year.
  19. 100% agree, but Matt has to be in there with a proper chance.
  20. First tried to bomb, then I think plug and bomb. Then they put in a tubolito looking thing which must have immediately punctured on the crunched carbon. Then rode for a while on the delfated tyre which came off the rim, so rim back off the bike and rode on the rim alone. Someone suggested 10-12 zip ties all around the wheel - might have been slightly better but it works on a Dakar motorbike (Toby Price this last year) because there’s a mousse which, even if it breaks up, still gives some cushion and body inside the tyre.
  21. Matt is riding Lifetime Grand Prix series in the USA. Sea Otter, Unbound Gravel, Leadville etc The time that he and Chris put into Keegan Swenson (won the 2022 series) and Lachie Morton suggests (and his BWR San Diego 2nd last year) that he is a serious contender. Look up last year’s series recap videos on the YouTubes - so cool.
  22. Nino or any of the top 10 could literally build up a new bike from scratch with only a multi tool and still finish in the top 30% of the day…those okes are insane.
  23. Amy did have a tyre insert. Have none of you okes watched the video. Vera or Kim cross the rut ahead of Amy and displace / knock a chunk of stone that rolls into Amy’s path and looks like it hits right on the side of the rear wheel. I am not one for blaming luck, but both SCR and the ladies were just so so unlucky with their respective incidents.
  24. Everyone I know who’s ridden the Epic says the same thing. Don’t go if you aren’t going to be rapid or you just suffer for longer each day and you deal with the above…which you can do for only R 10 k at the back end of the field at smaller stage races.
  25. I don’t know what the complainers are on about re commentary. It’s clear, informative and perfectly good. You can’t have Rob Warner shouting at you for 4 hours.
