  7. Philip Buys and Matthys Beukes form the “African MTB team” PYGA Euro Steel. Previously teammates riding as Scott LCB Factory Racing, 2017 sees them with new sponsors, and of course new bikes. The pair have a solid track record riding together, and have their eyes firmly on the Absa African jersey at this year’s Cape Epic, as well as on an overall podium spot. We caught up with them to check in on their race preparation, find out more about their plans for 2017, and of course their new bikes. Click here to view the article
  8. With the Cape Town Cycle Tour looming, we have been giving our road bikes some love, and have taken the opportunity to test a range of road tyres from Specialized. We tested the Turbo Pro, Turbo Cotton, Roubaix Pro and All Condition Armadillo Elite tyres, each of which offer unique performance properties, to determine how best to kit out our road bikes for the type of riding we enjoy. 9. The sun disappeared on Friday the 24th February, the lights turned on, and the people arrived for the 5th annual Monster Energy The Night Harvest, and they arrived in full force. With a crowd of over 1500 stoked spectators, this marked the biggest Night Harvest yet. With the best of the best professional Mountain Bikers and BMXers from around the globe descending on the unsuspecting town of Hout Bay, along with local shredders bringing the heat, the massive crowd was treated to a multitude of tricks that have never before been seen on African soil. 10. Graham Agassiz is one of the world's gnarliest free riders. From ripping edits to Red Bull Rampage insanity, he is always pushing the limits of mountain biking. 11. Cross-country mountain biking or XCO (the acronym given to the Olympic discipline) has increased in popularity in South Africa and globally over the past few years. So much so, that famed South African artist, Jack Parow, even wrote a song about it, Eksie Ou. Poor attempts at humour aside, the growth of this particular cycling discipline can largely be attributed to its inclusion in the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. 13. The Specialized Tarmac is a bike synonymous with road racing performance. In over a decade on the WorldTour, the Tarmac has scooped up an almighty array of race wins: from the grandest of the Grand Tours to the World Championships. And while the WorldTour riders did the winning, the engineers at Specialized have continually refined the platform, with the input from riders, in the pursuit of the ultimate lightweight, stiff, and responsive road racer. 14. Introducing the third long-term test bike to arrive at Bike Hub HQ, the Transition Smuggler. Admittedly, the Smuggler is a bike that I've had my eye on for a while. I'm a huge fan of short travel bikes designed for ripping single track. Slap on a set of 29er wheels and I'm in trail bike heaven. Having reviewed Transition's all-mountain bike the Patrol, I know that the Giddy Up suspension is super capable, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it translates to this shorter travel bike. 15. Edward Greene took on the South African National Road Championships on Sunday finishing tenth after spending much of the race in the breakaway. Check out his analysis of the race below. Click here to view the article
  16. YT Industries are best known for their freeride legends Cam Zink and Andreu Lacondeguy, and also have top downhill racer, Aaron Gwin on their books. The launch of the mini-downhill Capra enduro bike made waves with its excellent performance paired with a great value offering. A mid-travel 29er trail bike might not fit YT's image but it makes complete sense for them to approach this huge market. In reality, most people simply can’t or don’t want to ride like Lacondeguy or Gwinn. Click here to view the article
  17. Next up in our long term test fleet is the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon 6Fattie. Another absolute stunner, this bike had us taking turns trying to pop a wheelie in the car park. We'll be treating the bike as one of our own for the year: documenting the journey, and ultimately providing an in-depth review like never before. Click here to view the article
  18. Fox's Metah builds on their original trail helmet the Flux, with the Metah adapting to the demands of modern trail and all-mountain riders. The design principles behind the Metah were to create a helmet with broader coverage and protection while maintaining good breathability at a light weight. Click here to view the article
  19. In a world where we are bombarded with information from our bike computers (never mind the post ride analysis tools), the CatEye Strada Smart looks to cut out the clutter and deliver only the essentials in a sleek package. While the Strada Smart can connect to via Bluetooth to sensors, it makes the most sense for those looking to get their ride data from their phones onto the handlebars. Click here to view the article
  20. Grant Clark will be taking on more than just the 2017 Absa Cape Epic. He's currently somewhere between Cairo and Cape Town, on his epic journey #AfrikaLegBurn, for the literacy charity Shine. We caught up with him somewhere between Cairo and Cape Town to find out a bit more about his crazy plans. Click here to view the article
  21. In 2017, we're introducing the Bike Hub long-term test fleet. We'll be putting these bikes through their paces as we would our own bikes for an entire year, documenting the highs and lows along the way to give a more thorough and practical review of the bikes. The first bike to arrive is the Momsen VIPA TWO. The delivery caused a ripple of excitement in the office. Workstations were deserted as we unboxed: ooohing, aaahing, analysing the extent of the “yellow”, weighing components, and generally ogling this shiny new race weapon. Click here to view the article
  22. Although better known for their footwear and athletic apparel, Adidas has had an association with the sport of cycling since 1949. More recently, the brand launched the Adistar range of high-performance cycling apparel designed for comfort and aerodynamic efficiency. Click here to view the article
  23. According to our classifieds search data, the Specialized Epic is the most sought after bike on Bike Hub. Perhaps due to this wide appeal, it has also become a symbol of endurance racing in South Africa, and all the connotations that come attached to the stereotype. Opinions aside, this was my first significant experience with this iconic race bike and I was intrigued to see what all the fuss is about. Click here to view the article
