  1. Could everyone just take a deep breath and re-read the OP? A serious request for advice will get a serious response, usually along the lines of "Don't ask your imaginary friends, go and see a doctor." A non-serious request will get non-serious responses. Meanwhile, please excuse me while I go and get a step ladder to assist those who need help in getting down from high horses. James
  2. Which I did - and the answer was September 28. A bit late for my One Tonner aspirations, but good for the rest of the season.
  3. Well you clearly haven't understood this thread, have you?
  4. Ya think? You realise that we can escape you any time, merely by running straight, while you run in circles round your overheating leg.
  5. 1. Yes you will. 2. And then you won't. With any luck there will be a long and enjoyable gap between points 1 and 2. And good luck with finding that joint.
  6. Snicker, snicker....Zuma helmet....snicker snicker....
  7. Another vote for Old Helz as training ride. I did my first ascent of the spring on Sunday, and it was great. The gate has been upgraded recently, I think. My riding buddy and I had been caught by a bunch of four Somerset Westers, so 6 of us ascending, and we saw at east two guys descending, and no dodgy types. (Present company excepted, of course.) Easier than than New Helz? Just different. Very little motorised traffic before the gate, and obviously none after, so peaceful in that respect, which makes it easier to hear the Phil Liggett commentary. New Helz has a very fierce section about 500m from the traffic lights, Old Helz has a few short, sharp sections. And more shade, which matters as summer picks up!
  8. Use the right tool for the job. Always! Unless of course you were planning on doing the swimming bit in baggies and the running part in slip slops.
  9. Saddles are the one part of a bike where brand, price, bling and everything else is irrelevant. If it's comfortable, it's right. That said, ladypersons are different to gentlemanpersons. Ladypersons, aside from some more fascinating differences, have wider hips, so other things being equal, a ladyperson will require a wider saddle to support her ischial tuberosities (sit bones). Happy saddle hunting! James
  10. That's probably a good trade, but unless you post pics of the bike and the girlfriend we can't be sure. Well done, anyway.
  11. Please explain the difference in copyright law between recording onto a PVR for the subscriber to watch later and recording onto a DVD for the subscriber to watch later.
  12. Thanks all. The only reason I've re-used the link is that last time I replaced a chain, nobody could provide a suitable link. I'm not in the habit of skimping on spares - you can't run with the wolves and p!ss with the puppies. James
  13. Hello My Imaginary Friends Is anybody using a reusable link with their Campag 10 speed chain? And if so, which? My bike currently has a Wippmerman Connex link, which is already on its second chain...and using it on a third chain is prolly pushing my luck. What recommendations? Ciao amici! James
  14. I thought Wed evenings were racing evenings. From what I've read here, Wed at Killarney is as much about breaking bikes as it is about breaking spirit.
  15. Hello my imaginary friends Does anybody know when Killarney Tuesday evening starts? Of if it's started already? I tried the search, but found only 2009 posts; apologies if this is a pea-roast. James
  16. Keep up at the back! Hell, unless you get paid to ride bikes, nobody needs better than Tiagra...and even then, prolly not better than Sora!
  17. Edman you are one of the wise ones! Thanks for all the contributions so far. I am not convinced that what appear to be slightly heavier, aero, deep section rims will help me much. I am not a time trialler, and if I have any strength at all, it's climbing. Well, that and getting total strangers to tow me along. If I didn't have the Ksyriums they do look interesting. The Shamals and Fulcrum Zeroes that somebody mentioned back there look plausible, subject to budgetary constraints, and something spindly like lightweight Eastons or American Classics are also edging into the frame. Keep the comments and suggestions coming... James
  18. Hello My Imaginary Friends About the bike: Scott CR1, Campag Record 10 speed rolling on Ksyrium SL's with Conti Attack/Force tyres. About me: 40-something weekend warrior. 65kg in damp socks. PPA H seeding, with my usual summer training I expect to do an Argus of around 3:15 next year. I have no complaints about the Ksyriums, but I wonder if there are wheels out there that might make my riding a bit zippier, if you will pardon the pun. Top whack would be R7K, and I'd consider good second hand wheels. I'd only be interested in clinchers because I do not have a support vehicle or team of dedicated seamstresses to keep me in freshly sewn tubbies. In truth I like the K's, I like the way they look and they haven't given me a moment's bother, but they are around 6 years old and I wonder if wheels haven't moved on a bit since I've had them. I'd be speshly keen to hear from similar pace riders who have moved on from K's and found something that rocked their world. Ta. James
  19. If you put Vettel's pram next to Alonso's pram, they'd end up with each other's toys.
  20. Advising somebody to go to a particular saddle without knowing the shape of their ass is like me telling you to put semi-slick tyres on your car because I love them on my sports car. They may not be quite as awesome on your Land Cruiser. Saddles are the one piece of kit where the usual guidelines of price, perceived value, reputation etc. count for nothing. I hated the SLR. I didn't really get on with the Fi:zik Arione which just about everybody seems to love. My holy grail saddle turned out to be the Fi:zik Aliante which is like riding around while angels caress my nether regions. But, to the OP, if you have nice brackets like this ( * ) around your ringpiece, then yes, it's the saddle that's at the bottom of it. James
  21. ...or post something scathingly witty that takes a pot-shot at religion and use that as the basis for a (friendly) email exchange if she responds with a PM. Worked for me. Hello d*g!
  22. Irony - it's the thing that so few people get. But yes, indeed, what a bunch of idiots.
  23. I'm with Stewie on this one. If someone spends the money and wears the thing, why do you even care ? What about the weekend warriors that spend R100K on a bike ? I care because the whole PowerBalance thing is a big fat scam. Google "pinarello dogma" scam and you'll get very few hits. Google powerbalance scam and you'll get bazillions of hits.
  24. Moral dilemma....should I have advertised these as REPLICA PB bracelets? @BigH - Yes indeed. These will increase your karma and your dogma, but hopefully not your magma nor smegma.bikemonster2010-05-03 14:45:58
