  1. I received my masks and they work great. They breath better than a buff and they keep their shape away from your mouth so don't give you that waterboarding affect. They're also super comfy to wear...oh and only really minimal glasses fogging.
  2. I don’t think the skills park is members only. https://www.tygerbergmtb.co.za/trails/hoogekraal/ “The trail consists of a main loop of the Hoogekraal farm of 8.5 km, with various specifically built trails feeding off and returning to the main loop, as well as the loop of the Welvergenoegd trails that also feeds off and returns to the main loop, giving you a total ride of 24km on the two farms You start at the car park and warm up with a gentle climb up the dirt roads, past the skills park below the blue gum trees. Either pop in here for a warm up of the skills you will be needing for your trail ride, or carry on past, where you will descend into the Puff Adder single track climb.” “Payment terms: R60 at the trail centre honesty box at Hoogekraal or any of the Snapscan/Zapper facilities at Hoogekraal, Welvergenoegd or Fair Cape gives you full access to the Hoogekraal/Welvergenoegd and Fair Cape Trails. Please pay before you ride and retain proof of purchase on you. “Facilities Bike shop and repairs at Hoogekraal parking lot (Black Sheep Bikes) Delicious coffee at Bike shop at Hoogekraal parking lot Clean ablution facilities at Hoogekraal parking lot Magnificent skills park at Hoogekraal catering for all types of skill” As far as I know the only trail besides the corridors and traverses is the Klipheuwel trail that’s only for members.
  3. No, they’re 2 different things. From the club site Corridor Section: https://www.tygerbergmtb.co.za/trails/green-corridor/ Protea Hotel to D’Aria This corridor links the Protea Hotel at Jip de Jager road to D’Aria and Bloemendal. The Eastern entrance/exit is at the entrance to Majik Forest and traverses to the Western entrance/exit at D’Aria via Altydgedacht. From here follow the marked route through to D’Aria to Bloemendal. Please note that the loop around the D’Aria dam back to Bloemendal is open to non members, provided you obtain a valid day licence at Bloemendal
  4. I’ve eyed those rocks and wondered whether they could be turned into a sessionable little bit of tech...
  5. From the Club Website: “As you exit the B Spot, you can either head straight up the Bloemendal loop via the dirt road climb to the Majik Forest gate, or you can turn left into D’Aria for a scenic loop of D’Aria and back into Bloemendal. For members only, you also get access to the Protea Hotel corridor via the D’Aria loop.” “Non members pay R50 for adults and R30 for children. Please pay at the Biosport shop counter, or at any of the Snapscan facilities available at the trail centre. Please pay before you ride and retain proof of purchase on you. This payment only allows access to the Bloemendal, D’Aria and Hillcrest trails and does not allow you to ride or access any of the adjacent farms trails.” The D’Aria loop is for members and paying visitors (just please follow the direction of the loop!). The Protea corridor itself (from Protea Hotel to where it joins D’Aria at the dam) is Members only (and only that part is 2 way traffic) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Tough because of gravel bike or tyres? Anything resembling those conditions on the Tygerberg MTB trails? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Nothing technical, except for that stupid piece of single track right near the end next to the road back to town... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Hi...I did the 50 Miler last year and I'm signed up for the 100 Miler this year. This will be my first 100 Miler, so going for the finish and anything else is a bonus! How much tougher is the 100 vs the 50? Also - would you run MTB tyres or CycloCross/Gravel 35mm tyres on the MTB for the 100?
  9. Always worth the climb for the view. More so at sunset. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Last trip via the Hoogelegen Green Belt between Meerendal and Contermanskloof as it’s closing by this Friday. You can just see the new green corridor (taped off until Friday) on the left.
  11. Spes Bona road? I have wondered about that sign too...
  12. First stop at the top of Dorsberg this evening
  13. The early morning view on the way to the mast from Hillcrest side (first time for me)
  14. Just FYI, I upgraded my older Momsen HT fork as well last year...found a good deal on a straight (or 1 1/8”) steerer fork at evobikes on one of their sales. They have a 2019 Recon gold on their site: https://www.evobikes.co.za/forks/rockshox-recon-silver-29-tk-air-fork-2013.html
  15. I was wondering about early morning Spes Bona / Occultdale ride before work, but was wondering about safety before dawn, especially riding alone. Any areas to avoid before sunrise?
  16. Also did the 30km and really enjoyed the ride. I didn’t find much backing up on the single track and was only forced to walk a few times: once to navigate round a huge mud mess, when a guy fell over on a climb (didn’t clip out in time) and crossing the railway line at the end. The other riders were great about making way and walkers stayed mostly to the left. Those extra 3 odd km were unexpected, but overall a really great ride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Which distance? I did the 30km and found the markers and marshals excellent and exactly where they were needed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I rode with a buddy and we just used 2 cars, so saved on the shuttle. Looking at the results, you're right. Last year the 50 Miler had 367 participants and this year only 313. This was my first 50 miler and found it very well organised and in the end quite tough, especially the last 5 km! (it didn't help that the 100 Mile winner powered past us on that last brutal climb through the farm field near the end!). People are damn fast on gravel, but am very happy with my middle of the pack time: 4:21 for my first distance over 80km on a MTB. I'll be back next year
  19. Gravel grinding near Tesselaarsdal while dodging mud puddles after the rain. Think I need some sort of mudguard next time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Lonely (peaceful) gravel grinding on Occultdale Road this morning... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Ok...so it’s been a good couple of weeks, although it’s tough to stick to the eating plan and training has to be cancelled to fit with family life (parent teacher evenings). I also narrowly avoided getting sick. Sore throat and post-nasal drip seems to be mostly killed off (vitamins, some rest and salt water). On the eating front pizza and braai are the danger zones for me. But beer and chips and snacks successfully avoided. I have to plan a day ahead and actually capture tomorrow into MFP and have to plan/pack my lunch the night before. Not always easy and almost forgot twice already. So weight loss is well on track. Weigh in after my long mountain bike ride this morning put me at 83.1kg! [emoji44] It was hot and long though... After the braai this evening the weight stabilised at 84.1kg. 22. Ummm....who eats Banana Bread with Tuna! Frequently paired as well! Unless you're a little bit pregnant, Lurch?
