  1. Actually the best trail is the one you are riding for the first time.
  2. Great list. I would add: Bottelary Hills. Overall the best mountain biking in the Western Cape. Banhoek. Extend to the north-eastern side of the Banhoek river, starting with Nik-Naks Boschendal - lots of excellent trails Lots I haven't done yet: Helderberg trails Lebanon And I am sure many more. Andrew
  3. You tell that to the kids of today, and they won't believe you.
  4. Park at Tokara. Ride 1.5km on the Helshoogte road towards Stellenbosch. Just before the armco barrier starts, turn left onto some single track. Serious climb up towards Botmaskop - At some point you should find a sign saying you are entering the Banhoek conservancy - there should be a Zapper barcode to pay the fee. Keep going and you will get to Skyfall. After this work your way along the Banhoek river until you get to a concrete bridge, Cross over and you will get to the Nik Naks trails on the right. Ride these trails up and then down into Kylemore. You can now either ride back up the Helshoogte road to Tokara, or if you want to ride all day, turn right on Helshoogte road, ride through Pniel and go to Boschendal. There are actually a lot of options, so look at trailforks.com.
  5. Really? I get +- 3 times as much life out of a front tyre vs a rear tyre. And no, I can't manual.
  6. Stolen: Cannondale Scalpel SI3 2017 When: 25 June 2020 Where: Cape Town, Western Cape Stolen from garage at about 6am. Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section
  7. I rode to Tokai today, expecting it to be open, given that Table Mountain National Park is open, but it is closed. Got there about mid-day. Andrew
  8. Anyone know when Tokai might open again? Andrew
  9. I think there is a bit of exaggeration to make a point here. I cycle most mornings in Cape Town between Mowbray and Constantia. Initially there was definitely resistance to masks, but now by far the majority of people in this area (cyclists, runners, walkers) are wearing masks. I would say 99% of people at least have a mask around their neck, and pull it on when approaching others. Granted it could be different elsewhere.
  10. Thanks Droo - do you mean run it around the chainring and 50T but not through the derailleur?
  11. Thanks for the responses. The hanger looks straight to the naked eye, and I had the cable and housing replaced when I did the cassette. The derailleur has at least 15000 kms on it so the worn guide wheel sounds like a possibility.
  12. I had poor shifting between cogs 7, 8 and 9 on my Eagle GX for a while - thought the cassette must have been damaged at some point. I have now got a new cassette and have exactly the same problem! I have tried every conceivable adjustment, including the B screw. I can get the 7, 8 and 9 cogs shifting ok, but then the shifting goes out on cogs 1,2 and 3. Any ideas? could it be a problem with the derailleur? anyone else with GX have this problem?
  13. The problem is you can't wear a buff and sunglasses at the same time - they fog up.
  14. Tried a Ryder Force saddle for about a month. For me it is a medieval torture device. Andrew
  15. I won the 88km! Took the wrong route from the 30km water point and ended up doing the 13km single track loop twice. Seems I was the only one. Andrew
