  1. Thinking of splurging on the Garmin 910XT. I've lost foot pods while running and replacing them is costly. Also, switching from MTB to TT to road bikes would mean having to purchase extra sensors. Think a GPS watch is the way to go.

Any idea which stores in Joburg have Adamo saddles in stock? I've realised that most cycling stores don't have much more than business card websites.
  4. Lake Heritage is a good bet. You can access the water at Heia Safari, just off Beyers Naude in the Cradle. Pristine water

    TT-Saddle

Thanks. Still not 100% comfortable riding TT bikes so will give it another month or so before trying out a new saddle.
  6. I use my rollers, not as often as I shoud though. They really teach you to develop a smooth pedal stroke. Anyone here use a TT bike on rollers? Or is that just asking for a clip to end up on youtube?

Anyone here used or heard anything about the Selle SMP range? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=92851
  8. I wonder who is funding the research. Might give us a clue as to why they obtained the results they did
  9. If this is in fact true, there are a whole bunch of podium finishing cyclists who won on the power of placebos.
  10. This article has just been posted on the Mail & Guardian website. "Cyclists who dope themselves with EPO may not gain any performance advantage even though they are putting their health at risk, scientists said." http://mg.co.za/article/2012-12-06-scientists-epo-does-not-boost-cyclists-performance
  11. I'd hoped to do Regensburg which was cancelled. Will definitely consider Klagenfurt in the future.
  12. Thanks for all the replies - will definitely use these drills in training.
  13. Thanks. If I could manage a 3h15 marathon it would snow!
  14. Alberto Salazar excluded, does anyone do any serious training on a treadmill? If so, what kind of drills do you use or programme do you follow?
  15. I think you'll find the problem isn't so much a "roadie" or "mountain biker" attitude. The problem is people. If there are those who can happily bomb other nations or kill defenseless animals, what makes you think many would care about your broken chain?
  16. Thanks for the replies all - much appreciated. I played around a bit yesterday by moving further forwards and backwards but the general consensus here seems to be: HTFU! I shall now begin a daily regimen of eating ground glass and watching "Old Yeller" and teaching myself not to cry when the dog dies.
  17. Hi all, Need to pick a few brains. I got a TT bike last week and plan to use it for Ironman in April 2013. I went for an in-depth bike fit so am certain that the actual bike set-up is ok, but felt a bit uncomfortable during yesterday’s ride. How far forward should I sit in the saddle? My upper body feels a bit stiff today (mainly neck and shoulders). Is this normal for a first time on a TT bike?

    Dopers

As an aside, how many average Joe or Josephines would test positive for banned substances because of medication? Do any middle to back of the pack triathletes double check when a doctor prescribes medication?
  19. That is precisely why I prefer triathlons. That, and the fact that I don't seem to keep up with bunches these days! I take a moral victory knowing that I time trial entire races.

Fun fact: Vibram being sued in a class action lawsuit for making misleading claims - http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2012/07/vibram-barefoot-sneaker-maker-sued-over-claims/

SBR sport in Sunninghill do a video analysis of your running gait. Not sure what other stores do this - I've seen a few shops that let you run up and down and make suggestions based on that. My feeling is that without video analysis it's purely a judgement call, rather than evidence-supported guidance.
  22. I'm almost tempted to sign up for a DSTV subscription. But the thought of funding an operation that broadcasts Reality TV is unbearable.
  23. I don't know. He must have eaten a butchery's worth of bad steak and accidentally taken litres of the wrong flu medication.
  24. So it's safe to say that cycling is rife with dopers, snitches, dodgy doctors and inept/corrupt officiation?
  25. Boy, this is not the lube thread I was hoping it would be.
