  1. I bought a Edge 500 on Friday and used it for the first time in the Wilro on Sunday. I am loving it. I can't wait top go on my regular training routes and get some proper information from them. I did have a cadence issue but I think it just has to do with where the unit is on my bike. I am looking for a training programme that includes the Garmin data though, like the Polar personal Trainer webiste. i know that i could get many but it would be cool if it was all-in-one. J
  2. Hey I lost my Polar HR monitor at Teak Place on Thursday morning around 11am in the parking lot outside the gate. If anyone might have found it, please contact me. Thank you Jon UPDATE! Nothing found as i went out there. Thanks for reading.
  3. Very often the there is a silent majority and I am going to speak up to break the cycle. I had fantastic service from them. I even got a call from someone to ask about my club registration so that they could send the card. I did have an issue about belonging to a club, but we solved that problem too thanks to them. I can only rave about my license experience and I hope that others that are also happy will speak out. J
  4. I realise it's really late, but is anyone riding from Town Square or Weltevreden Park tomorrow, pubic holiday? I need a 50km ride but really don't feel like going it alone. J
  5. OMG!!!!! Seriously?
  6. I am totally chill. I am thinking that one or two of those top 8 hit home a little close for some. It was a light hearted attempt to get a fun discussion going, but seems that cyclist don't have a sense of humour. Sad really. Maybe I should hit the MTB forums to find someone who knows how to laugh. Some more, maybe this time, people will actually add some more! 11: Cyclists that fail to greet. 12: Riding too fast that I miss the Powerade girls. 13: Being told at the end of the ride that there was a topless woman flashing. 14: Not spending enough time with that little cutey around the 50km mark. 15: Deciding not to start because the wind is blwoing too hard. C'mon guys, what else you got?
  7. Wait, I just thought of another one... 10: Cyclists who take themselves WAY too seriously, so much so that they don't see a joke when it bites them on the nose. You guys who replied negatively really need to chill.
  8. I was out riding today and thought of some things that will get me a little hot under the collar on Sunday. Here are a few and I hope you will add to them... 1: Any mention of how strong the wind was last year. 2: Some a**hole telling me to hold my line! 3: Someone pushing in at the front of the bunch before the start instead of joining like the rest of us. 4: Litter louts. You are not a rider in Le Tour, people don't want your rubbish. 5: Someone with a hosepipe spraying "cooling" water on my clean glasses and spotless bike. 6: Faster bunches passing me with less than a metre between us. WE HAVE A WHOLE ROAD! 7: Bonking with 10km to go. 8: Not seeing the views for the black tyres.BBJSportGuy2010-03-09 15:48:03
  9. C'mon guys. Map My Ride has been doing this for ages! www.mapmyride.com
  10. More than likely in his own plane. KLM would not refuel from Amsterdam. His plane is probably smaller and needs a top-up. A lot like my Argus ride.
  11. Thanks Trubie... I think he is coming in on the KLM flight at 11pm. Not really willing to go to CT International at that time though.
  12. The Invitational Bunch is the Elite Bunch is the first bunch to start. Check out the starting times on the Cycle Tour website... The Cycle Tour and the Giro are two seperate events. Due to some team members being off in Malaysia for the Tour de Lankhowi, the Cycle Tour organisers are allowing more members to join on Sunday than were taking part in the Giro. Lance will ride with that bunch on Sunday. Whether he will race or just hide away from the general public is anyone's guess. My lowly opinion is that he won't contest at all but show off his kit to the loving cameras for the world to see. We at the eNews Channel asked the JAG Foundation to tell us when he was arriving in Cape Town on Monday but was told that they were not allowed to tell us. When I asked why, I was told that Lance's people didn't want any cameras when he arrived. I think that is a cock-and-bull story as surely he wants as much publicity as he can get? JAG needs the coverage too as a non-profit company. This is all starting to become a little sour. J
  13. Latest reports coming from the SA Weather Service, www.weathersa.co.za show a 45 km/h SE on Sunday with a high of 27 in Cape Town. Cape Point will obviously be slightly cooler, but expect a headwind for the 1st bit if the weather guys are right.
  14. Lance will probably organise a Twitter ride on the Saturday but the organisers are hoping that he won't as there are too many people that will ride and cause utter chaos on those little CT streets. He has done it before but ahead of a Pro race and not a mass race like the Cycle Tour. I think someone will have a little word in his ear to rather not call a Twitter ride. I would be a good idea though. Remember why the Cycle Tour was originally created, it was a protest ride and I think the aurthorities need to be reminded of that. J
  15. Hey! That's me!
  16. Tailwind Sports, owner and operator of the Discovery Channel team, announced Friday that they will cease operations at the end of the 2007 cycling season. One of the most successful teams in the sport, Discovery and its predecessor, the US Postal Service Team, won eight of the last nine Tour de France races - seven consecutive from 1999-2005 with Lance Armstrong -and this year with Alberto Contador of Spain. But Tailwind has been unable to sign a title sponsor for the 2008 season. "This was a difficult decision, not made any easier by our recent Tour de France success," team General Manager Bill Stapleton said. "We were in talks with a number of companies about the opportunity and were confident a new sponsor was imminent. We have chosen, however, to end those discussions." He added: "Tailwind has had an amazing ten years of success with US Postal and more recently Discovery Channel as its title sponsor. This is arguably the most successful sports franchise in the history of sport." Team co-owner Armstrong added: "I don't think you have seen the last of this organization in the sport but clearly things need to improve on many levels, with a more unified front, before you would see us venture back into cycling." The Discovery Channel team will continue to race its full calendar of Pro Tour races including the final grand tour of the season, the Tour of Spain.
  17. Hi The little tribute that we put together for SAfm is available for downlaod here. Hope you guys get it, let me know what you think. Warning, it is really really heart breaking. Jon
  18. Hi I was asked a while ago when the tribute to Ryan would be broadcast on SAfm. I got confirmation today that it will be played at 15h05 on Saturday 4 August. We have some REALLY heart moving sounds and memories from the people he worked with and I hope it will put a smile your face. Jon
  19. Please let me know as well so that we can put it on SAfm as well. We are paying tribute to Ryan in out weekly cycling feature. I have sound from him at the Giro and we will be chatting to people we worked with in his too short a life. Thanks
  20. This from the team this afternoon.... "Team Barloworld, the South African-sponsored professional cycling team, reports news of Ryan Cox, who is currently in ICU in a Kempton Park hospital. Cox underwent a vascular lesion operation in Europe three weeks ago and returned to South Africa to recuperate. The South African cyclist?s condition deteriorated on Monday, and he was rushed to hospital by his family. After consulting with doctors, it was advised that Cox required an emergency operation to repair a bleeding artery. Barloworld wishes to extend their support for Ryan and his family during this difficult time. Further information will be communicated as it becomes available."
  21. The latest from the team is that he is in intensive care in Kempton Park. He is in a stable condition, which could mean anything. He had internal bleeding for weeks without it being detected. Barloworld will be releasing a statement this afternoon.
  22. I normally start at M&B, but yesterday met a mate at Princess Crossing. Odntdekkers seems very close to the cars and VERY difficult to talk as riding two abreast is dangerous there.
  23. Hi I went for a ride on Sunday on Ontdekkers for the 1st time in ages and was surprised by the amount of riders on that road. I normally go out on Hendrick Portgieter towards the K-Dorp hill. I feel safe on the latter as it has the wide yellow 'taxi-lane'. I was wondering what the views are here as to which is safer. When I was thin, I rode up to Ontdekkers, rode out to K-Dorp and went down the hill toHendrick and back to the Mugg. I am restarting my training and hills are an issue at the moment and finding a flat ride for base is tough, unless I go out east but that costs more in petrol than I am willing to spend. So, to wrap, safety, fun and ease? Help me out. Jon
  24. Oops, sorry, I see that this has been posted already. Just ignore me! J
