  1. Ya. Thanks. I suppose it's a luck of the draw thing. Also I know bike stocks are limited. Thanks for input.
  2. Hello BikeHubbers. Recently had the need to make use of bike insurance. Role players are Discovery, Riders at Work and Carbon Bike Repair. Its been four weeks since bike went in. Delay seems to be the front rim - hunt - which had to be ordered from the UK. Is this a normal amount of time for a bike insurance repair/replace procedure?
  3. What other bike jacking/crimes are the 3 stooges possibly (or definitely) connected too?
  4. Great ending to a bad situation
  5. Historicaly there has always been a risk of getting mugged and/or knocked over. Now it seems cycling in the Lakeside area carries with it the additional risk of getting fondled!
  6. Modus sounds exactly like the attempted bikejackinfvi experience last Tues. From info gleaned from other homeless in the area the perps are from Parkwood.
  7. Splat... this at approximately 05h45. Still quite dark. I had front and rear lights. I believe this is what they look for.
  8. Morning Splat. It's a bit technical; it's right on the Kenilworth/Wynburg border. Just after Wetton Road intersection. Left hand side direction town. Four males walking away from me. No obvious body language. (If that's even possible) At last second one spun around, jumped and grabbed my handle bar. His pulling and my momentum caused me to fall hard on my right side. He tried to escape. Chain was off, handle bar bent. So he fell! Other 3 ran in diff directions. I tried to chase bike bike running in cycling shoes don't work! By this time he was freewheeling to cnr of Wetton rd. A vehicle with Woolies staff (all males) turen to give chase. According to them he must have realized it wasnt gonna happen, he threw the bike 1 way and ran the other way. The woolies guys returned the bike. And get this: Anwar the driver, collected me on his return trip and gave me a lift home!!! Surreal experience. I have been uneasy about that stretch for awhile.. Will definitely avoid it going forwards.
  9. Was just pulled of my bike main road Kenilworth. 4 youngsters. One grabbed my handle bars. I went down hard! Thief tried to ride away but chain was off. Luckily a vehicle with workers turned to give chase. Retrieved bike in Wetton and Main. Thief had run away. Bike messed up.
  10. I must have been smoking the herb of self righteous indignation and drinking from the cup of idealism. It happens when I hear about f=%k heads robbing people.
  11. Critical Mass! Meet at Steenburg and Main. Ride across the entire lane/s. Interrupt the taxi routes. Shut them down! Make SAPS take notice. Mass Protest Action. It's the SA way...
  12. Would be nice to return the favor. Mafia style.
  13. FFS! This can't go on!
  14. Not a a bad idea at all. As long as other cyclists understand the reason for it.
  15. I thought I was the only 1! That road traffic stinks. I think I'm going to start riding on the pavement. Perhaps a mass ride along the main road to raise awareness?
  16. Safety was a bit of an eyebrow raising thing. We were nearly taken out by a few cars/trucks. And the flipping idiot at on of the single lane bridges who purposefully opened his driver's door to impede oncoming cyclists. Super dangerous and selfish behavior!
  17. Ok it looks very nice!!
  18. Cool thanks will check it out.
  19. Thanks but must renew CSA
  20. Hi can anyone recommend overnight cycling friendly accommodation in Paarl ? Saturday night. 2 adults 1 child
  21. Yes. Your advised plan of action is proactive and positive. And it goes straight to those who are accountable. Was nearly taken out by a red city bus while back. Emailed directors: positive response. No issues with those buses since then.
  22. DJR that is very good advice!! Thanks.
  23. This mornings incident is not isolated. It's something I have experienced a few times over last few years. I have been so far left I may as well have been in the gutter; Today I was near the top. No other cars. Two lanes with broken white line. Dude comes racing past and hoots. Then on his way down he crosses solid white line to make apex of turn or to show me "watch out!"? Either way he was speeding on his way back down.
  24. A disturbing trend over the last few years: an increase in speed and a style of driving that appears to have the intent of intimidating bike riders - this from the drivers of the vehicles owned/operated by the various paragliding companies utilizing the top of Signal Hill Road, Cape Town launch site. I assume that they pay for the use of the launch site; perhaps this gives them a sense of entitlement? "We pay for this road! Cyclists do not! So get out of the way!" Have any other cyclists had similar experiences while riding on Signal Hill Road?
