  1. Had those as well, run super well on all types of terrain, but the sidewalls are crazy hard and of course heavy, but bomb proof.

  3. With that internal dimension the 2.2 are going to handle terribly, would definitely go for the 2.4, more comfortable with the lower pressure you can run. Plus better fitting tyre on the rim with sidewall to protect rim. Also I cannot imagine wheel manufacturer would recommend anything smaller than 2.25-35 anyway.

  5. Keen to know why the apparent value of the bikes makes any kind of difference? Not sure if you live in Paarl or were just passing through. As a fairly new addition to Paarl, I have found there are certain sections of Paarl main road where one simply has to take up space to prevent bring doored, people pulling out in front of you or trying to squeeze past pushing into the kerb or parked vehicle etc. Glass on a Saturday or Sunday morning after the previous nights revelling is a big problem, I’ve cut 3 sets of tyres beyond repair…Also you’re just as likely to get stuck behind a slow driver or truck/tractor, of which there are many, particularly on a weekend, so what do you do then? Obviously one doesn’t want to create unnecessary animosity and of course everyone needs to follow the rules of the road.
  6. I would think the 2.2 are a bit lighter and hence easier to maintain speed due to lower rotational weight. But no data to support this other than the running of the 2.4’s. Gotta say though, they run super fast on tar and jeep track descents, like I hit 79kph on taal monument tar road down, where other tyres have felt like they top out.
  7. What is the ID of your rims? Why are you keen on the 2.2 vs 2.4?
  8. My 2c. That’s just the thing, the Pirelli’s are super tough despite being light. With 120tpi casing, so to me it would talk to tyre ID and the pressure you run. If you are too low on pressure, snake bites will be an issue regardless of tyre unless you go super heavy sidewall. The sram tyre pressure app works well to get the pressure settings right, I tend to use their recommended pressure for wet conditions, but you may run the dry conditions pressure to be safer, and riding style dependent as well.
  9. They are super, right? And really light compared to others out there, was running vittoria Barzo front and mezcal rear, which perform great, but 400 grams lighter for the set really helps, rotational weight and all.

  11. I bleat about them often. I am running the Pirelli scorpion xc rc lite tyres front and rear. Very light, but surprisingly very reliable and grip very well across all conditions. But, a bit soft, so not gonna last super long. But I will trade grip for wear any day.
  12. I wound up with Mucoff sealant on my kit a while back. The best is to remember to not let it dry, so get the bibs/clothing under a tap or pour water on to dilute before it dries. Which I now know to do. The other was a combination of a strong mixture of Ecologic cleaner, agitating and washing, then I used the Mucoff sealant remover spray and also let it soak and agitate it. Seemed that worked the best, can hardly see any marks now.

  16. Yeah… glad you had a good experience, but mine compared to previous Trailseekers was decidedly different. I had planned to do the Winelands the next day and as such wanted to do the half marathon. But the 8:30 start was a terrible idea, started out and all good, but knew heat was going to be an issue as by 9 it was cooking already. What became immediately apparent was the lack of medics and officials on route, people seemed to be crashing quite a bit and having to head back quite far for help. It soon became a battle of heat adaption, people were suffering with the heat early on, came across a gent on the one climb violently ill from heat, I think it was clocking 38-39 at that point. Water points were 10k and 29k in, stopped at 29k and no water or anything available except naartjies and gels. Not ayoba… waited for some time for water to arrive, but by that stage people were losing their sense of humour big time, we had already hit 47 odd if Garmin is to be believed, it sure felt like it. But I was shot, and beginning to feel heatstroke symptoms and couldn’t hold water down, so decided to bail with a bunch of people already having done so. The nice cold facecloth that we were met with in the past at the finish, no longer there. What I don’t understand is the heat was not a surprise and it’s not like these guys haven’t done this before. How is it possible to run dry at water points? Also, why start so late? P.S did announce my dnf to the officials.
  17. Not gonna lie, was a bit disappointed when I rocked up there in my new Ford and did not get any special privileges.

  19. If after trying the above and it’s still not working. I had a non functional cadence sensor where I picked at the battery contacts inside, very gently bend the contacts to ensure solid connection with the battery. Solved the problem.
  20. Please don’t let this go, I think you might find if you take this up with the police there will be other charges or a history of this behaviour. This guys needs to be stopped, or at least pause a bit before doing something rash for fear of the consequences. Before he does actually kill someone.

  22. I also am not the biggest Spez fan, not because their products aren’t good. But rather I was not keen on becoming a disciple of the cult. I now own 4 S-Works helmets. They are super nice!
  23. Yeah, understand the point @Pandatron is making, so would agree there is definitely an expectation for any responsible adult to take measures in case of an accident/event. I ride alone a fair bit as well and leverage off of Garmin tracking, incident detection, ICE number on the phone and being prepared in terms of spares, nutrition etc. Also then taking it much easier to minimise the chances of falling. But stuff happens as we know and recently I was super disappointed to see how no fellow road cyclists were prepared to stop and help the other day when I was stuck on the side of the road with a catastrophic puncture. So I am now even more prepared as a result, but I have also stopped many times to offer aid and spares wherever I have seen someone stuck or hurt. So by the same logic we shouldn’t stop for anyone who on their own and in trouble regardless? Or is just reserved for fellow cyclists? A bit of a tough view…As someone who has helped more people and animals than I can count, I will continue to try help were I can when I evaluate the risk for me and mine is acceptable, so that help might just be calling an ambulance. But it will be some form of help. I have to also believe that I was perhaps put there at that moment in time to help, but let’s not get too out there…it’s not Friday yet.
