    + 1 for Irma.
  2. The Garmin units are serviceable in that you can take the pedal body off and give it a good clean inside and clean and lube the needle bearings. But not much more than that. New bearings would mean you need to buy a new pedal body I’m afraid. Videos on YouTube will show you how to do this, is quite straight forward.
  3. I think it was like 15 cm on the rail spacing and then I adjusted the racks as well. Price wise, I think the rails were 1500 each with foot packs 1400 each. The racks were bikehub, but I do see Olympic cycles has a deal on the 598’s. As mentioned before, if you can figure out the mounting in the t-slot on the shutter itself it should mean less fiddling in terms of rails and racks. Could be as simple as getting them slotted in from the front as was suggested earlier. But Thule can advise on that.
  4. I know it wasn’t directed to me but FYI. Like I said, definitely no warranty or recourse from Thule as the setup is not within spec in terms of rail spacing. But it works with my bikes.
  5. Yeah, exactly that, with the Thule bracket system they are fitted to the mounting bracket, if it was just the bolts, then all good. But this was some time ago, so maybe missing a trick. But the main issue was rails that are wide enough for the body from Thule. There are of course other options from Hold Fast, Skitch etc. but matchy, matchy is important for me. But lower down would have improved the fore aft spacing problem I am sure.
  6. I have both options for my setup on a Ranger Wildtrack, so fit the towbar mounted rack when needed going into underground parking vs popping them on the back above the load box. The spacing meant that I could not use the wing bars from Thule, so had to go for the larger bars which fit with foot packs to the rails. I would have much preferred to leverage off of the t bolt mounting slots on the roller shutter, but could not get the fittings on without breaking some plastic pieces on the roller shutter. So not sure if I was missing something, my Ford dealership were not particularly helpful here either. So opted for this setup, the fairing means that you lose a bit of length and given that I ride XL bikes it was a bit of a fiddle on the rack setup to get everything to fit properly. My bikes are light, so not too worried in terms of rail spacing, as it is not within suggested Thule spec, but would be cautious if your bikes are heavier.
  7. I’ve gone full circle on this, also short sighted. Have tried expensive inserts, custom lenses on sunglasses the works. With inserts and fogging up being a major challenge across different brands and approaches. Back to contact lenses, using Cooper Vision dailies for riding. It did take some concerted effort to get used to them and getting the technique to get them in, but they are very comfortable now and I can wear them for extended periods of time. Pricy, but I now buy in bulk from contact lens club to bring the prices down significantly. So would recommend you go to an optometrist and get the right script and size and give it a good go. It will come right in the end, the tech has come along way with soft lenses and breathable lenses etc making for more comfortable wearing.
  8. Xl, but a large should be enough space to work, it very adjustable
  9. You did not mention the size of your bike, but this may help. I run one on my mtb and it’s great. Little bit fiddly to get set up right. https://www.on-lynecomponents.com/products/holy-rail-dual-cage-kit?srsltid=AfmBOoqh3uBRvktD5dQCYpbxOKwwy-Fu-haDYtGI3nD3rzr3oBxFW6vt cheers
  10. I get along really well with the Assos Mille for mtb and Mille GTS for road. I will say that I find for added comfort for longer rides a shammy cream really helps. Assos cream not so much, but the Mucoff one really seems to make a difference. Of course assuming you’ve got a well fitting saddle.
  11. They are 💯 legit. They are the distributors for a number of top brands. Head office in PTA with representation in the Cape based in Paarl.
  12. I’d probably go for 2.35 just as they may be a smidge lighter. Tyre pressure - check the SRAM link, put in your values and it will kick out a result https://axs.sram.com/guides/tire/pressure M
  13. Sorry that you had to go through this. A question though, was it you were knocked down accidentally and then it was too good pass up taking the bike, or do you think you were knocked down deliberately?
  14. Eugene is so cool and slick that no dirt sticks…. I also want to know what’s the deal with dirt riding in what looks like normal road tyres? @Eugene Oppelt please advise
  15. You have found what you are looking for. DM me and we can make plane to get them to you.
  16. Yeah, I’m with @Mamil in that I am not convinced the colour of your clothing makes much difference. I did notice a vast improvement in cars responding to my presence when I started riding with Garmin varia’s front and rear. The flashing lights definitely help to pull a motorists brain out of whatever distraction/non threat identification brain loop they might be in. But I still have cases where regardless of the lights people turn in front of me. I put this down mostly to people not realising how fast you can actually move on a bike, and the fact the brain does not communicate to the conscious mind quickly enough, which seems to differ for people based on potential consequences of getting it wrong, we are self serving creatures after all, if you turn in front of truck you die, other car -tough day/maybe die, motorcycle - tough day and finally cyclist/commuter- meh… also part of this is probably we get lumped into the commuter speeds when we are generally going much quicker Doing a quick scan of the link that @Spirog shared, certainly from my perspective one needs to apply a bit a mental gymnastics to come to the conclusion that clothing does much, it kind of reads like - well after mandating bright colours the number of accidents didn’t increase, so therefore it’s effective. But I think that also talks to lights which we can all agree add value, in my mind the most value. Especially in low light conditions, where reflectors are certainly more valuable than colour. I would also agree that flashing should not be too bright for use in conjunction with a light to see with. But anything to help pull the brains of motorists out of their cathartic drive home thoughts can’t be bad. The link does somewhat support my consequences theory.
  17. Yeah, just to add to the voices, I will never sell anything nor buy anything from Bikemarket due to their lowballing nonsense. I don’t care how good the deal is, that’s how annoyed I was by them years ago.
  18. I’ll second Armour Ride. Good service from them and the wrap itself stays clear and is hardly noticeable.
  19. Any valve should work as long it’s the right length, depending of the shape of the inner rim, you may need to trim the rubber to make sure it fits well to ensure a good seal.
  20. It’s actually super at the moment as a lot of the jeep tracks were graded for the Epic. So super straight forward you can head up either northern or southern side of Paarl to get onto Jan Phillips drive and then you get to a turn to head up into the reserve. If you stick on the jeep track you won’t need a permit, but if you plan on hitting any of the single tracks in the mountain then you would need one. For the best climbing you can start at Frater square, then head up the road to the Taal monument and get on Jan Philips drive from there. Could look something like this, but you could add on by heading to paarl rock as well. https://strava.app.link/ydwx3I7S3Rb
  21. Come to Paarl, Wellington. Paarl mountain has gravel roads where you can do a good bit of climbing. Then of course you have du toits kloof and Bains close by, tar, but great climbing!
  22. Yeah, long may it continue, I am firmly in the Garmin ecosystem with all my devices used and then sold on without any issues. Tactix, 5pro, 6pro, 7xpro, edge 530, index scale etc. Now running the Fenix 8 and edge 840 and 1050. With varia lights all working beautifully.
  23. That’s why I like leaving my bike racks on the car.
  24. Yeah, also caught the pics and videos just before it was taken down. Bang out of order and the cyclist needs to face justice. Of course this will spread like wildfire and be another reason for motorists to hate us. But indefensible from the cyclist. I did see that (I think) Lynwood cycles made a comment to contact them shortly before post was removed. Hoping the guy is trying to make right here for all our sakes.
  25. Super well organised in terms of collection of course. Good parking for bikes and cars. Goody bag is pretty much meh, with maybe 2 items I would use or try. Expo was I thought a bit light with a weird mix of things. Monton has a big stand. Ciovita has a huge setup, with all the tour stuff being their stuff as well. When I arrived I was a bit hungry, so did a quick walk through and then found the Kaui had a bite and then did another couple of walk throughs. But definitely much less in terms of stands. Weirdly no Sox stand, no 100%gloves- glasses yes, gloves no. No Mucoff, no assos…only bike brand was Cabal. I am a huge Garmin fan, found their stand a bit frosty though, not friendly at all. The highlight for me was having a long informative chat with Mark from 32GI at the Dischem/32gi stand. The downside, other than the definite reduction in exhibitors, was the incredibly annoying shoe cleaning product sales guys that seemed to have multiple stations/locations all over and were determined to get me let them try their stuff on my shoes. By the 40th no thank you I started getting a bit twitchy.
