  1. Ok so why dont we do the Alpe dHuez Tri then? 2.2km swim, 110km bike and a 25km trail run??? It is the 24th of July which is a Wednesday. Maybe we can fly in on Sat, watch the last Paris TDF stage the Sunday and then roadtrip down to the race which is Wednesday... then come back the next Sunday?? Swiss will book us a rooms at the local Moulon Rouge
  2. The same with me DaveM. I have tried Tweeting, Facebooking and mailing them with zero response. They are worse than Vodacoms customer care centre... Swiss / JGR we can talk. Lets then fix a race and date now and I am in..... It needs to correspond with PE. Not closer than a month either way.... Heck guys I will even do a "difficult" 70.3 hence the Alpe dHuez consideration.... Dont you guys think that will be awesome? Swiss I even see they give 90 minutes for the 2.2km swim!!!
  3. True I would also love to do the winter thing for snow but then the tri is off the charts. Also the admin of carrying a bike along is not lekker. Maybe I must rather look to run a Londen Marathon or somehting similar.... Hey doesnt the grat wall of China have a marathon?
  4. Self inflicted jet lag!
  5. Eish thanks! Panama also looks the **** but its too far again R30k for flights only. Remember the wife is going as well. Thanks JGR I did look at the Challenge races and are considering them.... They just sell out really quickly.... It would be a dream to race in the European mountains hence the interest in the Alpe dHuez Tri. I even see there is a Canary Islands race!
  6. Ok so I have budgeted for an International Tri event. Abu Dhabi Tri's organisers have not opened the entries and even Faris al Sultan says he is not sure the event will go on. It was perfect timing as 2 March is 6 weeks before PE. Another option looks to be IM New Zealand (same date) although the flight tickets alone is my whole budget. (R35k for 2 tickets)... and I am not to fond of racing near the arctic....... Then there are other options like the Alpe dHuez tri which is the week after the TDF.......... but this is only in July.... Anybody know of any other reachable long distance Triathlons that could be recommended?
  7. I didnt read the whole thread but there is my advice:- 1.) Insurance is key. Full insurance which even covers crashing as you dont want to "write off" the bike and then still owe R30k 2.) Do a cash flow. Whilst most people will say it is a bad idea..... sometimes you will find that by buying this bike and riding it, you will save a lot of money on entertainment costs etc as you will now go to bed early on Fridays as an example. This might even cover your installment 3.) I recomend you repay it within 3 years or less 4.) Sell your current bike for a good price and use this as a deposit 5.) Other than that go for it and enjoy it man. Most banks have revolving credit loans. Stay away from credit cards as the rates are crazy.
  8. After Bela at least it was clear Dave is not Doping.
  9. Last year there was a similar thread. It is expensive. Consider that they are bascially closing 5km of half a lane and that is it....... Also the race just doesnt have a lekker vibe due to lack of infrastructure. Look at BSG. They make you want to stay afterwards.

    Dopers

I wonder if the world of Triathlon is just as vrot as cycling............?
  11. If you dope then you are doing cycling for the wrong reasons. If people (average joes) dope to win in cycling, what else would they do to win in other aspects of life? Who cares in any case. I race against myself.
  12. The sad thing is that Hansie was held accountable and the rest was swept under the carpet accept for a few retired players that was found guilty. I mean match fixing is still going on today (in my opinion) yet everyone just seem to look in the other direction..... Guys like Shane Warne and Mark Waugh was also implicated by caught out bookies yet we never heard from that again. Cricket is probably just as vrot as cycling for all we know...... When Pakistan and co play in anycase......
  13. This will be the year of the Garf...... Wil6 I am going next weekend for the 94.7. You?
  14. Yes. I will be doing Abu Dhabi Tri which is 2 March. I wanna do Xterra. I will be ding IM PE. I want to do Buffels/Midmar depending on how they fit in around Abu Dhabi.......... As you can see there are way too many willing training partners in ol Bloemies..............
  15. Cool so I got the watch (910xt) and it is awesome. Just one question............ since the Garf is a rough rider......... do they sell a cover accessory that can protect it? I am afraid it might scratch upon contact with DaveM's eyeball....................
  16. It just needs to be right. I wanna see my correct averages etc. I have built up a profile on Racetec's site of more than 30 races. If they really wanna tick me off then go ahead and start publishing errors. How would you feel if you finish the comrades and on your medal it states 55km run well done.............
  17. But i did take a few turns very wide (just to give the other cyclist a fair chance)
  18. My Garmin said 106.4km total distance
  19. Did she wear Grey? I saw a lady wearing Grey and one with a cycle lab kit that was from Pta...........
  20. Ok cool I was in that group. Remember the Kumba Ironore oke. He did a lot of work at the start. And that oke with the red shirt. But obviously as the race went on and the going got tough the true alpha male namely "the Garf" came to the fore and drove that bunch on like pack of wild dogs......
  21. Any Triathletes interested in a ride this coming Saturday in Bloemfontein? LHP 5 o'clock start.... out to Krugersdrift and back and then Sunninghill and back to Church Street and back to LHP all on the high way? Around a 100 - 120km ride at 30km average?
  22. Die afstand is nou reg
  23. Ja dude I saw that!!!! The guy wore an Orange racing shirt!!!!
  24. Fanie I think the problem was that there was a soccer match the same day that they had to cater for. Small price to pay for the quality and safe race that was put up. Really like the partial road closure on the N1.
  25. Ja or the okes that swings his waterbottles around knocking out other cyclists before taking a drink.
