  1. now what colour stem to pair it with, hmmmmm
  2. So judging by most responses, very few of you would fork out for something like this for example? http://dialdbikes.co.za/dakine-descent-jersey-l-s.html
  3. what did that all cost you after shipping and duties?
  4. A couple of quick questions for the DH fraternity: 1. what brand jersey are you wearing (if you're wearing a brand at all)? 2. where did you buy it? 3. what are you willing to pay for a DH jersey? 4. are you even wearing a DH specific jersey, or are you wearing a MX shirt or tshirt / track top, etc? Just been having a discussion around kit and the local market with a couple of mates and thought I'd do some research to help fuel the discussion
  5. Contermanskloof, Tokai, Jonkershoek and linking together the entire Tygerberg MTB club network - those are all good venues / mountains for enduro racing. Not Megavalnche style - but more AM / Super D / Enduro stuff. At Jonkershoek you can climb for an hour and a half to blast down Fire Trail in 7 minutes, or climb for 45 minutes to shoot down Slangpad, or climb for 45 minutes to shoot down the long singletrack that includes upper canary, etc... that's 3 transfer stages and 3 timed stages - there's your Enduro right there...
  6. I agree with you... mountain biking is so much bigger than any discipline. In fact, when most of us say "XC", we're not even referring to "XC" (which is actually a racing discipline, more than a "genre" of cycling) - what we're really referring to is "mountain biking" - Mr Joe Average riding his bike outdoors on the trails, and doing the odd race here or there... I think what frustrates me the lack of events for other disciplines - we have a healthy DH scene, a healthy XC scene and a healthy "fun ride / race" scene, along with a healthy marathon / stage race scene... We have ZERO all mountain / enduro / super D scene - and there's a lot more people in that classification than what we realise... am I making any sense?
  7. XC / Marathon aren't included because they're not good material for an "extreme" mtb film go tell Brian Lopes or Burry Stander they're not real mountain bikers, I dare you But I do see the point OP was making - there is more to mountain biking than "fun ride" races, epic marathons and XC... but somehow, despite the abundance of "big" trails, these disciplines seem to be the most prevalant in SA - just ask any LBS what they sell more of - 140mm all-mountain machines, or short travel carbon 29ers No reason we can't all get along though, even if you are a dirt roadie
  8. just wait until I build it up again - with a white stem and white cable housings
  9. yup now to sort tyres and a new stem...
  10. you guys are asses - all along i'm wondering if the mtn king isn't too grippy for the rear, now i'm wondering if it's not not grippy enuff for the front... wish i had more experience in tyre pairing
  11. where can i get the trail king and rubber queen?
  12. Thanks, so the 70mm isn't too long then? Still got a decent amount of control?
  13. Just out of curiosity - what stem length are y'all running on your trail / AM rigs? My current stem is about 55mm, thinking of going for 60 or even 70mm as the Commencal's top tube is short for a L... obviously shorter is ideal for more control descending, and longer gives you a more planted feel on climbs, right? 70mm should be good for both?
  14. yeah i figure since i don't really know what i want i'll stick to the same front and back. when the current one wears out (will still be while) i'll have a better idea - then i can go bigger or smaller. the 2.4 mtn king isn't a big 2.4 anyway, i suspect it's more a 2.3 so it's a good balance front and back...
  15. I am insanely indecisive at the best of times - I can't figure out if the XKing on the back is going to be too tame, or if the Mtn King 2.4 on the back is going to be overkill and if I wouldn't benefit from the XKing's easier rollability Ordered the Mtn King II already because buycycle didn't have the XKing, then I looked again, so there is time to change my order... or should I just try the Mtn King front and back for now, and then make up my mind on the next round? eish... i am terrible
  16. hehe yeah what did you go for, 2.4s?
  17. Went with another Mountain King II Protection 2.4... will see how it holds up
  18. as requested, here's a pic of the bars on the bike
  19. Will do when the bike's built up again
  20. So, AFAIK Dan missed the first Superenduro of the year, but came 4th in the second round. Read more here: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Superenduro-Round-2-Punta-Ala-Saturday-Practice-and-Prologue.html http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Superenduro-Round-2-Punta-Ala-Race-Day.html And some videos (haven't watched them yet, dunno if they're any good): http://vimeo.com/41806257 http://vimeo.com/41733403 http://vimeo.com/41607943 What do you guys think, will Dan make a name for himself in the Superenduro series this year? Could he have found his niche, his flow? One thing's for sure, the One Industries kit is looking sweeeeeet
  21. El D - purchase made already bud I went for white, 'cause everyone knows white looks more pro... Thanks cpt - I figured everything on my bike (except grips, brakes and shifters) is white or black, which makes the blue of the frame more striking, so let's keep that trend going. Being a designer is a curse
  22. Just placed an order with diald bikes - order process quick and easy, collecting my new Deity handlebars tonight
  23. Order placed, since they're near me, collecting tonight
  24. O that's moer funny. Yes Maxxis, that's what I meant. I think I was making an attempt at multitasking
