  1. what about DT Swiss EX 500? Any comments, anyone?
  2. Dear videmiro Diald Bikes - http://discoverymagazine.co.za/issue1-cover.html
  3. that's what I was wondering - clipped in on the rough stuff, does that help you keep your feet stable on the pedals (as opposed to bouncing around a bit) - or are your 5.10s so grippy that your feet don't bounce around when you ride flats?
  4. even old danny boy rocks the AM45s (along with his swanky One kit)
  5. Someone's actually offered me shoes to borrow as well (in my size) so I've decided I'm going to give it a bash and see how I like it - I'll make a purchase decision later then
  6. looks are subjective - I quite like the Shims, and every one out there riding clipless on AM / DH bikes is wearing Mr Minn's shoes, I like to stand out from the crowd
  7. What to do? Option A: buy a pair of 5.10 Impacts and continue to ride flats as I have happily been doing OR Option B: buy a pair of Shimano AM45s and go clipless! (I've been offered pedals to loan by 3 different people already)

  9. ok, this one then
  10. ...to mount a bell to your handlebars, for use in a race instead of shouting "track" or "passing on the right"?
  11. nothing yet... soon
  12. Matthew Zoutendyk (I think he's chairman)...
  13. Yes indeed. If I wasn't cash strapped I'd be buying a lot more than bars - got my eyes on some 5.10s, and some 661 knee guards, and some Deity pedals, and, and, and, and
  14. lolz Cap Majik is rad-i-cool but rather short. This may sound strange but Tygerberg MTB would be the guys to hit up to organise this. With their green corridors connecting Majik, Nitida, Hillcrest and Contermans it would be a great system for a multi-stage event: transfer stages (climbs) that aren't timed, with timed descents counting for points. Think about it: Transfer 1: Up Majik Timed 1: Down Majik Transfer 2: Up Majik again, across to Nitida Timed 2: A couple of runs on the slalom course Transfer 3: Nitida up Hillcrest - to the masts Timed 3: From the masts, blue, green and black routes to the Bike Shed Transfer 4: Up the Bike Shed Timed 4: Bushvine climb, backwards Some of those are shorties, so you could combine the climbs with the timed stages, such as a lap from the Bike Shed, up the Jeep track, then the wrong way across and down bushvines (5km lap, which is what they used for the ride-before-you-buy a couple years back) Kliprug, which is pretty technical and rocky, could be included as well! Yeah, maybe this should be split
  15. http://dialdbikes.co.za/ No, I'm not affiliated, well not "technically". A mate of mine is one of the dudes behind it. Will be purchasing some Deity bars in the near future Their mission is to cater to the gravity / AM / DJ guys, and they're relying heavily on feedback, so if there's something you want let them know so that they can consider stocking it!
  16. Contermans for sure - and of course Jonkers
  17. Keeping an eye on this thread - I've been running AlexRims SupraBH rims for trail / AM riding. To be honest, they are tough but moer heavy... Been considering Spank Subrosa's or Oozy's - the Oozy's are a tad lighter and narrower, but received a good review on Pinkbike: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Spank-Oozy-EVO-Rims-Tested-2011.html Just not sure if, considering I weigh in at over 110kg, I shouldn't just go for a heavier duty rim (like the Subrosa) or if something like the Oozy will be tough enough. At least this thread's giving me a few extra options to look at. What do you guys think?
  18. happy friday people
  19. Ah yes forgot to mention that after 5 weeks off the bike, and about 4 or 5 pilates sessions, I managed to climb a hill near my house that I normally sukkeled up in the granny gear, on the middle ring. now, I can't prove it's the pilates - but I have a suspicion it's the breathing that did the trick
  20. Pilates is excellent - I hurt my back pretty badly a little while back and private / small group (5/6 people) pilates has been part of my recovery - and it's been awesome. Core strength, flexibility and breathing - all great for cycling
  21. Lopes, what a machine... @Cap - mini-enduro? sounds awesome where do I sign up
  22. I watched that episode this week - excellent!
  23. Two short rides with them and so far so good. Fairly light, comfortable, don't shift around, and, despite the hot weather, no sweat on the lens or in my eyes (yet) and no fogging up. Good glare reduction, not too dark, optics seem clear and peripheral vision is unhindered. No cons as of yet
  24. Just registered - what a painfully long process. The Entry Time system really could be made a lot more user friendly. Also - what's with a R4 online registration fee? Ok, it's just R4, but really, what the hell?
  25. Registering now Just out of curiousity - there were a few gripes last year: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/104113-event-greyton-classic-mtb/ Have some of these issues been addressed for this year's event?
