  1. I've been using a Mountain King II Protection on a tubeless setup for a while now without hassles.
  2. lol, that's fine, my bike IS a tractor
  3. Bumping this... Got the Mountain King II 2.4 Protection and so far so good. It's a moerofa light tyre, and the protection sidewall has held up well so far. Grip seems pretty good. So far it seems worth the money. Now it's time to dump the Nevegal that's on the rear. SO... Do I move the Mountain King II to the back and put something meatier on the front? OR Do I put another 2.4 Mountatin King II 2.4 on the rear? OR Do I put something like a Conti X-King on the rear, and if so do I stick to 2.4 or go for 2.2? (this is for general trail / AM riding, on wide-ass rims)
  4. that kinda makes a lot of sense. you've got me thinking...
  5. well, my reasons for going blue would be oviaaz let me know how it works
  6. PoS: for sticking with 2x9: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=54355
  7. I don't actually know what my reason is. I think I'm just full of crap I am curious as to whether there'll be a significant weight saving, plus the thought of having 1 less derailler and 1 less cable that need maintenance and can give hassles (as my FR currently is) would be nice. And I would like the security of a chain guide - having said I can always get a tensioner / roller to run with my current 2 ring setup It's also the fact that I literally use 1 or 2 gears on the granny ring. Seems like a waste By the way eddy I may be building up a 2nd bike - my old Mongoose Tyax hardtail - for puttering around with the family. So at some point I need to start collecting components for that, may as well upgrade my Commencal and "hand me down" the old drivetrain
  8. having said that, it doesn't seem like 11-36 cassettes are readily available?
  9. just my 2c but if the problem is her hips, then a suspension seatpost is only going to help her when she's sitting, and only so much... when standing over rough terrain the force is still going to travel up her legs and into her hips... although it's going to cost more, forking out for a +- 120mm travel full susser might not be the worst idea...
  10. Thanks for the advice - I hadn't thought of it that way... 1x9 IS the WAY cheaper option - all I need is a chainguide.
  11. cpt - 1x9 is definitely the way cheaper option - all I need is a chainguide. So I may indeed do that for now. But 1x10 will give me that 1 extra gear on the back for climbing (at least that's the theory). Climbing on a 15.4kg trail rig is not fun on the middle ring
  12. I've been toying with the idea of changing the drivetrain on my Commencal Meta 5.5 from 3x9 to 1x10. Well, that's not entirely accurate - currently I've got a bash guard on insted of a big ring, so technically it's 2x9. Am I right in assuming that for the front, I can simply remove the little ring, run a 32 and add a chain guide? For the rear, I need a new casette, derailler and shifter, right? And of course a new chain. Silly question perhaps, but do I need a new rear hub? Anything else I'd need?
  13. damn! you go guy! I know a dude who rides off road (motorbike). his nickname is "leftless", guess why
  14. yeah yeah, I know this is the "gravity" board. anyhoo... http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/bikes/mountain/product/review-cotic-rocket-frame-46090
  15. that's not rumour - you can configure it on their site, part of their "CCCP" (custom color choice program) no kawa green though
  16. Yip, they do. They also make a ali Highball...
  17. I think there are more all-mountain / trail riders hanging out in this sub-forum than the other sub-forums It should be called the "gravity / AM" sub-forum
  18. 135mm rear VPP travel, 130-150mm front travel, 29" wheels, available in carbon and allu Tallboy LT: http://www.vitalmtb....12689/k-shiz,14 Tallboy LTc: http://www.pinkbike....-29er-2012.html I have a thing for longer travel 29ers. I'm weird that way.
  19. Got mine at Matrix in Cape Gate...
  20. just bought them... very comfy, will report back once I've done a couple of rides quite impressed at Glider - soft bag and hard case, nice! plus I got a second (not that cool) pair of sunnies free
  21. Rad, thanks for the feedback. Fogging up and sweat are a bitch, so glad to hear it. Does that rubber "sweat" pad work then, without being irritating?
  22. tried on some of the Ocean Eyewear options (not the photochromatics though) and found this particular Glider pair to have a tad more coverage...
  23. Anyone got experience with Glider eyewear? Thinking of getting a pair of "Asphalts"... can't afford Rudy, Adidas, Oakley, etc at R499 the Glider's seem alright. Fairly comfy, Polarised, and with a rubber strip along the top for sweat... The other option is Ocean Eyewear, a tad cheaper...
  24. wouldn't a Giant Trance (120mm) with a 120mm-140mm adjustable travel fork just be sweet?
  25. you mean like the stuff Kona, Rocky Mountain and PYGA are doing... there's now a 29er Rock Shox Revelation out, by the way
