  1. that's not my reign - the silver one (i wish). here's my current rig, less impressive but i love it... poor thing, it's not going to last long...
  2. ok, ok, maybe that was a bit harsh... begs the question though, why not just put the bike on the back seat?
  3. was that for the bike rack, or were you just tired of being mocked by your friends?
  4. dude, will do - one thing I learn from motorcycling off road is you learn when you ride with guys better than you... I'll make sure I'm behind you... keep that camera pointing forwards...
  5. Best quote ever. and hesitation is your enemy To be clear: I'm not doing full-on downhill at the moment. Perhaps I will in the future . What I AM doing right now is making the most of the downhill bits of trail I ride, and trying to hit as much stuff as I can while doing so. Call it all mountain / aggressive trail riding. After all, my humble hardtail can only take so much (which is why it's equipped with beefy Alex SupraBH rims)... My next bike is going to be either a full-susser (140mm or up, but preferably 150mm/160mm) OR a long travel hardtail (e.g. on-one 456 carbon or summer season)... THEN I'll start hitting some of the downhill spots, like Paarl, fully kitted At the moment, riding spots like Contermans and Jonkers, all I can really carry with me are knee guards. Still, it adds a lot of confidence
  6. dude, 50 is the new 40, ergo 31 is the new 21
  7. wish I had a camera with me, it was priceless
  8. yeah, err, i wasn't wearing any... was an early morning majik forest ride... had my kneeguards, but only put them on at the top by the beacon before doing the singletrack down - this happened on the rollers behind the substation - was bloody epic, i held on for a good distance before planting!
  9. A nice little bounce off the ground this morning to remind me I'm not as malleable as I was when I was 17
  10. I'm a late starter - got my mountain bike beginning of 2010, a hardtail, just to get fit. Now? Hooked... Why am I posting this in gravity? Because at 31 I feel like a 17 year old after my ride this weekend. Hit up Contermanskloof for what must be only my 3rd time there... took the lower black route (as I do every time), only this time hit one of the small jumps halfway down, then DIDN'T take the chicken route near the bottom, and instead did the drop off, railed the berm and popped some air off the jump. Is it wrong to be this stoked with my minor achievement (old hat to guys 10 years my junior)? Or is it time to start saving for that full-susser... I've got some serious catch-up to do
  11. Busy testing it and loving it...
  12. Have mailed Tygerberb MTB to see what their take is...
  13. Location: as the singletrack starts into the forest - there's the long bridge, followed by a straight, big berm, drop-off, then 3 "dips" that lead onto a smaller bridge - you with me? good... Just before that smaller bridge (after the 3 "dips") it seems someone has been trying to form a new trail (possibly leading into a jump) - the problem is it's essentially halved the usable width of that part of track, as the part that's been worked on has turned in to a massive eroded loose rut, which is smack bang on the perfect line onto the bridge - twice now i've been pulled into it and nearly saw my ass has anyone else noticed this new trail addition gone wrong, or is just me and is it perhaps maybe just bad erosion? And if you have a suggestion for the trail, or need to flag something like this (that's potentially dangerous), who do you speak to? What's the etiquette? Do I contact Tygerberg MTB (of which I am not a member, so it may be a bit cheeky)? I am more than willing to get my hands dirty to help sort it out if manpower and time are an issue... What are your thoughts on the issue?
  14. any idea on price? as far as I can tell on the SRAM site it comes in 3 options, not as an adjustable option. Plus 120mm max - when I go full sus I'll be going 140-150 mm
  15. through-axle would be ideal. i want to eventually upgrade the hubs anyway... but the cheapest through-axle fork i have found is the Rock Shox Sektor for like R3500 at CRC. Adjustable travel from 115-150mm. on the one hand, it's overkill and i'll never use more than 120 / 125mm, also it's more than half what my bike cost. on the other hand, it has a better chance of being transferred to whatever my next bike ends up being (like an on-one summer season) PS. my tyax came with disc brakes
  16. what about a 2nd hand '07 Fox Talas (air, with adjustable travel - 90/110/130)?
  17. Considering tossing the 100mm Rock Shox Tora on my Mongoose hardtail for something a little better - 120mm of travel, air or spring doesn't matter as long as it's a better ride than the Tora, and I don't want to break the bank... Any suggestions as to how much I should expect to spend, and what to look at?

    Shoes!

LOL allow me to rephrase the shop is called RENEGADE it's in long street. This pair is called the "Rowley Stripe Synthetic" - made from synthetic suede / canvas apparently. Cost R489 on special - was R695 elsewhere!

    Renegade in town - sorted
  21. Yeah, 6" travel? Here's the complete bike: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/94148-mount-fury-cycle/page__p__1277193#entry1277193 Looks VERY clean, and R4200 is still a decent price for the frame and shock...
  22. I see there's one on the hub as well: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/95039-mountain-cycle-fury/
  23. Just checked - Fork Travel: 124-140mm according to the site. I'd probably go for 140mm then... The only thing that bugs me is the clearance of the seat post - the shock is directly under it, so I'm not sure how far I'll be able to drop it... This might just be the "budget" trail rig I've been looking for
  24. Thanks! The ad says it's a 5.5" frame, so I "should" be able to run 140mm fork up front? What fork are you / your wife running?
