  1. Ok we can confirm that Tarmac is not a fan of Mavic SLR's Goose, nice try mate...... Valid point by Tarmac. Mavics awesome wheels but anything goes wrong you pay big especially the spokes. That is why I ride ZTR.s
  2. Gummibear,it is a disease for which there is no cure. It is a horrendous addiction. Before you know it you have 4 bikes,3 spare sets of wheels and spares to fill two bike shops and still you want more!!!! Money falls out your wallet with consumate ease. But jeepers I love it!!!!
  3. I would say first choice ZTR 355 with A2Z hubs and DT Swiss comp spokes. Get a wheelbuilder to custom build.Where you based? If you do not want custom build XT is definitly the best option in that price range.
  4. Ok so jeepers that just blew me out the water!!
  5. If you look at the difference in price between the two bikes and I think it is about 12k then in my personal opinion the X2 is a good buy. You can always buy a new shock and wheels when you convert from an average to a good rider When you are ready spoil yourself with a set of decent wheels as they do make a difference.ZTR's for example Frames are exactly the same just different colour. I have an Anthem X2 with XT grouppo and I am very happy. Hopefully welcome you to The Giant Team!!
  6. I had the same problem and found that it was usually my bum that went numb first and then my left hand. Also still numb for a few days after ride. Made the following changes that seemed to solve the problem. Seems to originate from the nerves in your bum. 1.Splashed out on a REALLY decent set of bib shorts for long distances and races-Giordana/Assos- top stuff. 2. Did take myself and my bike in for professional set up. 3. Make a conscious effort to get in and out the saddle and move my hand position from time to time during the ride. The distance you did a numb hand would have been the least of my worries
  7. I would also be p**sed off if somebody posted my time and labled me a cheat!! Sometimes I wonder if people THINK before they post info
  8. 94.7 is a really tough race if you havn't put the correct training in. It is a constant grind from beginning to end. Even the downhills are hard work with the road surfaces and the width of the road especially in bigger bunches. Although most enjoyable my body definitly worked harder than say Amashova. Did a 03h05 at Amashova thinking that I would easily break 3 hours at 94.7 because of shorter distance but did almost identical time yesterday. So distance is not an issue as I feel that 94.7 really fatigued my muscles alot more due to heat and gradient of the route. Also train hard but I find resting your muscles the week before does a whole lot of good.
  9. I agree level of training fitness play a big role and cramp is muscle fatigue. I used to suffer from cramps. Advice given to me was fitness level and maintaining the same race pace in training.Remeber racing is alot more intense and energy sapping than a training ride of the same distance. The fitter I got the less I suffered from cramp. But it is all relative as I am sure if I did a 200km race at the pace I do a 100km race the cramp will return Another piece of advice given was take alot of liquid before racing.Especially on a hot day like yesterday at the 94.7 will help with fatigued muscles. Start drinking fluids the night before and the morning of the race. By the time you start drinking in the race even every hour it is too late.
  10. Can't comment on the roadies but the MTBikers in KZN are really a decent bunch!! Maybe tell your wife to trade the roadbike for a mtb. Will look out for it on the For Sale posts
  11. Never judge a book by it's cover......
  12. Glad I was able to find you guys!! I always wondered who this Dangle chap was. If Troy is not on The Hub tell him he is now. Cable tie worked like a dream and my front breaks were set better than the bike shop could. Thanks again guys!! Shall we start the debate in respect of decency and helpfullness of MTB Riders vs Roadies I MTB and do road riding and there is definitly a different vibe.
  13. Had a top weekend in JHB,I know this sounds like a conctradiction! Did the road and the MTB and body little tender. I had an issue with my brake pads at the start of the mtb race and I needed some mechanical assistance. Jozi people get a bad rep but I cannot believe how helpful fellow mtb riders were. I was up and running in no time!! I am from KZN and it was my first race in Gauteng and I will be back! To the guys that helped me if I remember correctly the one guys name was Troy. One word LEGEND!!! I see in other threads people complaining about the route etc etc. I say thanks to the people JHB for a top weekend!!
  14. Sorry guys getting a little bit ahead of myself here. You are correct it should read 1490g without tyres cassette and rotors Still awesome wheels though and they are 26"
  15. I obviously know somebody because my wheels were built and delivered in a week!!
  16. I have just bought a set of ZTR 355 with comp spokes and A2Z hubs. Grant from Adrenaline Cycles built them for me. Awesome set of wheels!!! Came in at 1490g with tyres cassette and rotors! Due to the lightness it does feel a little unstable at first but I have done a 50km ride and can't say enough. Looking forward to Hill to Hill this weekend!!
  17. I have the Giant TCR Advanced Frameset 2010(white). Absoloutly blown away by this frame!!! Best purchase ever.I did alot of research before purchasing and and honestly could not justify the R10 000 difference in price between the advanced and the advanced sl frame.Used the saving on buying a decent set of wheels! Just my opinion but the Advanced Frame is value for money, also I am not a big fan of the ISP!!
  18. To all you guys that gave me advice. Thank you very much!!! Put shields on and moved cleat back slightly. Rode an intense 40km race with plenty singltrack this weekend so lots of pressure on the feet. Didn't feel a thing. Got to think of a new reason for a foot massage now.....
  19. I feel exactly the same. The fuctionality of the pedal when riding is awesome.Hopefully the updated version will be better.
  20. Less push and more pull....... Get those hammies working!! Got Yah!! Any idea where I can buy those shields locally?
  21. Must admit havn't tried moving the cleat on the shoe. Will move them back slightly see if that makes a difference. Thanks!!
  22. The shoe shield? Is that the small plate that comes with the shoes? I do have those on already. Also thinking do you know if there are different cleats for the egg beaters. Maybe a flatter one? Thanks!!!
  23. I wonder if anybody could help me. I have a set of crank brothers egg beaters. The functionality on the pedal is awesome but on my right foot only it hurts like hell underneath my foot after about an hour of riding. Checked to see if the screws on the cleat are too long,I have bought new shoes, two pairs of socks and yet it still hurts. Any suggestions?
