  1. Good one!!
  2. Hi Hubbers. So after as very rainy trip last week, and not cleaning my bike, I realized a sudden sqeeking and kracking sound on my rear hub. Being too far from a LBS, I started disassembling the hub. Everything seems still in perfect working order. There was some water in the hub and not enough grease. I cleaned everything properly and now I just have to assemble it again. My question to you is: Which type of grease should I use? Is there a certain type with a certain viscosity? Is there a certain name that I should ask for? Your info would be much appreciated!!

  5. Well Said!!
  6. I've done it. I am not regretting it at all.
  7. Hi guys. I've recieved some bicycle parts form CRC today. They send the parts in 2 different parcels. When I went to pay the VAT, I got a small shock. The VAT amount that I figured (about 15.4% of the sale value) was exactly double that. When I looked into the matter, I saw that CRC put a copy of the original invoice in both parcels. That meant that Sweetness (whoever she is) at customs thought that both parcels was the invoice amount seperately. So customs charged me double for the original amount. Does anybody know what I am about to do? Who should I contact? CRC or customs? I am new in this import thing so any advice will be much appreciated.
  8. Could not agree more!!
  9. My best achievement was to get on a bike again, breaking that mental barrier and losing 25kg's in the process.
  10. Hi guys. Thanx for the replies. Mojoman... I am in a small town in the Northern Cape. Exept for a couple of guys, the people will think I'm talking about a real camel's back. I am planning to do only one day races... Say like the Knysna Oyster Festival. So big baby... I think the lobo might be fine then. Again. Thanx for the advice.
  11. Hi Hubbers. I've decided to try out the MTB scene as well and I must be honest... Much more entertaining than road cycling. The thing is... I want to buy myself a camelbak. Can anybody give me some advice on wich one to buy as there is so much diffirent available. I am a big guy and want one that will fit me perfectly. Any advice on what to buy and what not to buy would be much appreciated.
  12. My first one and definately not the last!! Thanx to: 1. The big traffic cone I went over without falling. (made me realize to enjoy the ride, rather than taking it too seriously). 2. The organinizers and sponsors for organizing such a big event! 3. The people along the route, encouraging everyone to keep going. (especially the hills) 4. The well-stationed waterpoints and their friendly people!! 5. The Bar-One Stand (being at the right place at the right time. 6. The beautifull dancing girls!! Wow!! You let me forget about my cramps and the heat for a while. 7. The guy on the N14, pulling in behind me and giving me a bit of a push, encouraging me to keep going! Dude you came at the right time!! 8. The goodie bag... 9. The painted warnings on the road. 10. And I could go on an on.... Awesome race!! Will be back next year. Hopefully with a sub 4 time.
  13. Glad you guys all loved it. To be honest. I underestimated the hills. Draging my big weight up Lukas Steyn was not a good experience. But I managed to stay on the bike. Windy and hot. But overall a good experience. Only bad thing was the piece of road where you turn off Andries Pretorius on your way out on the Maselspoort Road. Thought that my rims are going to brake. But I will be back next year. :)
  14. Hi Hubbers. So how was the OFM Classic? Remarks...Opinions...etc etc??
  15. So this is how a pole.... Ag sorry man... Poll works. Thanx FowlStArt!!
  16. Thanx Tankman. This helps a lot!!
  17. Sorry Capricorn. I'm a boertjie so I speaka da english very delichiosly since the age of twice.
  18. Thanx for the info stewie911. For you it might be a useless thread. For me (who don't have the time to do a lot of reading on the hub)it is usefull. Sometimes when I read, I'm actually scanning through. And in the age of internet buying, I make shure that I have all my facts before I buy. So why do you bother to reply to the thread when it is useless?? To the guys who gave me some info (especially on the import tax of clothing and shoes), thanx a million!! ps. I'm still actually a newbie on The Hub. So please bear with me. I'm still learning how to edit and create a pole and etc etc....
  19. Ok... So we all know about chainreactioncycles and I've read a lot of topics where hubbers suggest fellow hubbers to go to CRC and buy stuff there. But my question is?? How many hubbers actually buy from CRC? I am almost every day on their site. But to be honest... I'm too scared to order something from them. Might be the lack of knowledge regarding the import tax and the fact that I am far from a CBD. Guys. Is the service really so good and how does the import tax work?
  20. Polar is the way to go. Go have a look on www.buycycle.co.za. Their prices on Polar is far more cheaper than any shop I know of in SA. Just a pity I already bought mine before I discovered the online shop.
  21. Hi David. Hanover is such a small town in the middle of nowhere. And because of that, I recon that there would not be a lot of Hubbers knowing someone there. I am in Prieska, about 240km from Hanover but knows a couple of people there. I phoned a guesthouse named 3 Darling Street. I am willing to sponser your accomodation for the two nights. Just let me know if you still need accomodation there and I would organize it for you. Regretfully I would not be able to be there myself to give some support. Just let me know what your ETA would be on both days and I would organize it for you. Good luck!!
  22. Got an email back from the administrators. They are willing to take my OFM time into considiration for a better seeding. I just have to go to the admin desk at registration day and pay a R150 fee. So wish me luck guys!!
  23. That's a deal!! Just look out for a big guy with a cycling jersey that says "Bietjie Bietjie Lam" on the back. O ja... There is a monkey riding a bicycle as well.
  24. You guys are all lucky!! I'm the sucker starting in VV this year. Lekka 9:30!!! My first 94.7 and I'm only doing the OFM Classic as my first seeding event this year. My first year on a bicycle since 2006. Going to be frustrated. I know it..
  25. I agree with you Crack. One should always bear in mind that there are many people with many different personalities on the hub. Some can take a joke. Some can't. Those who can't should just realize that nothing is actually personal. And if it really should get personal, go sit down, count to ten and go back to the hub. If it does'nt work. Clinb on you bicycle and go ride of your frustratons. It works for me.
