  8. Just coz its Friday and this thread NOW has me looking at road bikes of yesteryear AND I just happen to be a TREK fan..... Quote........................" 1988 Trek 2300 This bicycle marked Trek's entry into the carbon fiber frame market. It has three carbon fiber tubes connected to aluminum lugs, chain and seat stays and fork. Trek later produced it's famous OCLV complete carbon fiber frames, but this is where the composite bikes started. The Shimano Ultegra component group included the ill-fated Biopace chainrings. Trek's Iso-c hard anodized aero rims and Look clipless pedals finished off this trend setter..."..unquote
  9. Just Googled kwik kwik...looks like that TREK 2300 was maybe worth something...
  10. Stole this off of a Throwback Thursday thread...poster was/is Underachiever... Wonder where this bike/frame is today???..
  11. I must admit...the ole road bikes are way prettier than MTB,s of the same era...
  12. Well...now...since going through this thread at length...the thought has certainly crossed my mind....AND...thinking about these yesteryear bikes...Sooo...addictive warning duly noted
  13. I have spent some time just going through this thread ...and I must add that I am no bicycle fundi or even go gaga over bicycles , yes I do ride a MTB and really enjoy it BUT I am more of a restore old cars kinda toppie...BUT..BLIKSEM!!!.... I am VERY IMPRESSED by these restored/rebuilt/refurbished bikes form the 80,s and even further back...AND the histories that go with them and the knowledge that is prevalent here ...i say HUGE RESPECT and SALUTE!!!...to the workmanship and TIME being spent on these grand ole Ladies!!!...AND yet , many IF not all of them are still ridden over fairly large distances still... I mean you chaps even know the history of a washer!!...where it was manufactured...date..etc etc,,,,...mind blowing!!!.... I am a great fan of watching cycling races on the box and will be a great fan of this thread ... Keep it up...you guys are truly officers and gentlemen of the SA cycling fraternity!!!
  14. Not sure where my Alice fits in...BUT..for me she is a fine girl on the trails ....climbs like a dream and is sweet through the twisties ....soaks up the rough stuff and a tad slow on the downhills BUT she has 26" wheels so all good...My Alice never skips a beat...
  15. Well done....jip..I also give anything walking towards me a wide berth...
  16. Mornings Folks...where every self respecting and worth their salt , mountain bike belongs!!...And my Alice LOVES the trails....she climbs like a dream and is super nippy in the tight twisties....This is on our local 3 Silos Red route with my son yesterday....SINGLE TRACK Sunday!!
  17. I watched the TDF 2019 and was chatting to a mate who has done his fair share of cycling and he tuned me they ALL doping to a lesser or larger degree...he maintains that NO normal human ...no matter how fit can day in and day out do those kilometers and rinse and then repeat... Well I for one am in awe of these top cyclists...they are as tough as nails...drugs or no drugs....or enhancers as so put...I say HUGE RESPECT to them ..BUT ...Lance ...you dear Sir ..were weighted...measured and found VERY wanting...AND you seemed to me a bit of a BOX to top it all...
  18. Jip..hear you...BUT still be ok and not a BOX!!!...I mean anyone can be a BOX....but dont kick the tea lady coz she burnt the water...maybe she is having a tough day...
  19. VERY funny thread indeed!!!...hehe...I watched the 2019 TDF and as such , cannot help myself , I started Googleing all the riders and their respective histories blah blah...then happened onto Lance , AND...never knew the crap he went through regarding his cancer ...some brain surgery etc etc and was back out cycling in a blink of an eye.....IMPRESSIVE!!..was my initial thoughts ...BUT...then I read still further and started reading comments from many of the people that worked on his team(s) that he rode for and the peripheral people along the way as well and the general feeling was that he is/was a rude bullying chop....I also dont like him bar the drugs...
  20. One of our beaut little trails and NO its not THE Fish river Canyon BUT ..still a tight little section ....And my little TREK aka Alice does not skip a beat...
