  9. what is the cost of night rides?
  10. It might be an illusion, but you not higher by 3 inches. your hubs are highter by 1,5 inches (radius, as the whole diameter is 3 inches). BUT actually your crank is lower then the hubs, the crank hight from the ground is about the same as 26er. This is where the stability comes from.. being below the hubs. Ya it may have been an illusion but felt a lot bigger/taller/ higher. @Sea Bee yup went for another S/T but i think i am hooked ...
  11. what brand do you use? can the 32gi recovery be used as a protein shake? (hope it aint a dumbass q)
  12. Morning Well i have been on the back of many discussions reading the 26 vs 29 battle. I was super happy riding my Merida 96.. one of the best bikes i have ever owned and ridden fact.. But i got the opportunity to buy a friends seldom used and hardly ridden 2011 TREK SUPERFLY 29er. So i decided that i would sell 2 bikes and get 1 bike .. After dealing with a few people i sold my ghost and merida and got my friends superfly... I hit modderfontein red trail on saturday morning. First impression , you feel rather high and it may only be 3 inches but you can definately feel it . 2ndly i was not happy with the bikes curved handle bar, i felt akward and a little out of controll, so i was not really enjoying the ride. That bar i am not sure why people would want such a steep curved bar vs a flat bar .. i maintained and got use to the height issue. as soon as i got home i swapped out the bontranger curved bar for an older scott straight bar that i had lying around Sunday morning i hit the red trail again.. Well now i felt more attatched to the bike no weird over steering issues and what felt like my knees were clupping my hands etc.etc. So the advantages i can feel of a 29 er over a 26er .. The 29er wheel really does roll over most things easily , i use to have to pop the 26er up over 2 pallets that are placed over a large tree stumpdown by the river section, the big wheel just rolls over it so effortlessly so you can get more speed over obstacles, the few rocky sections that are down by the river are really easy to roll over, sometimes the 26er felt like it would stop when it bumped a rock, not so with 29.. Climbing hills feels a lot harderon the 29er , feels like the legs are pushing a bit harder to get to the top .. although cross country feels like you are using less effort and i free wheel more than my mate on his 26er.. Now when you go through the twisty tree section, i felt like my old 26er had a lot more control, the 29er felt like it was not turning enough , and then suddenly it took to the turn , a bit nervous , but sure i will get use to it.. Although i am still a bit nervous and not wacking it on the few downhills that there were, it definitely feels a bit more quicker than my 26er. Overall the wheels still needs to be turned by your legs, 29ers are definitely not going to make anyone a better mountain biker just by having a bigger wheel , but i can say it rolls easier over terrain, needs a bit more effort on hills ,but my smiles are just as big as they were on my 26er , i just now feel part of the big wheel gang So now i need to get comfortable on my new superfly and see if i can improve my times..

  17. So my boss knows i am abit of a mtbiking nut .. Yesterday he calls me to his car to see his latest purchase He got a Hybrid Ghost e bike. It is a pretty stock looking Ghost hardtail finished in matt black with orange livery Xt components fox front shock etc.. The rear wheel has shortened spokes and it has its own larger hub.. It is also pretty damm heavy ... Sort of not knowing what it was and what to expect he says here have a go ... So i take it for a spin It is a weird sensation you pull off in top gear, or thats what i did any ways ... Waiting to feel my calves tense under the top gear ratio i stand up and wait to feel the burn ... BUT ..... What i can only imagine it must feel like to have a large amount of E.P.O or some other wondrous anabolic steroid, that has been created by some crazy scientist in a laboratory in deep dark russia or a special muti concocted by the local witch doctor from the blood of unicorns and the tears of tyrannosaurus rex's.. I felt like i had all of these things coursing through your muscles giving me the ability to stretch cranks and cause the planet to slow down and start to turn in the opposite direction. I felt like a freaking mountain biking God ... Ps ... no i dont think about E.P.O at all But i can swear i now know what top athletes feel like as no hill or obstacle is a challenge, and the least amount of effort is required to turn the wheels ... The witchcraft and magic involved is awesome .. As a long distance commuter , if our roads were safer i can imagine this product would be awesome for our country and climate. As you get the biking experience and a slight workout for rather little effort.. That been said id hate to have the thing run out of juice or break on a long trip, The bike must weigh around 23kgs with the batteries and electric motor .. But i would really consider this option over a scooter or smart car ... It could also be a wicked weekend fun toy attacking the simple trails with a few mates .. I was surprised that we dont really get exposed to these e bikes , i seen the petrol motor powered bikes around but on e bikes. Any ways this was my feel for the Ghost e bike .. anyone else ridden something similar and got a story to tell ? clicky below of the bike http://www.ghost-bikes.com/za/bikes-2012/bike-details/e-hybride-trail-9000-man/

  21. i may have 2 friends who are unable to ride the 40km pm me if anyone is keen .
  22. i run schwalbe and have never had a problem..dont think a brand can be blamed. what rims are you running? when you did the conversion how soon after did you ride? bear in mind that bombs tend to dissipate once they have been used , i find that if i bomb a tire on wednesday by weekend it has lost a lot of pressure something about co2 vs o2 . I also run 1.8 /1.9 bar on front wheel , but i weigh 87kg vs 102. maybe try using a pump and setting pressure at 1.2 bar for a ride or 2 and let natural seating take place, i am assuming these were brand new tires?
  23. Dugast ?? wat is dus ?? ..am i in the dark ages again? here comes a world of enlightenment
  24. and 650b !!!
