  1. No actually that use to be law its not contained correctly within the new laws, and if you want to you could go argue your case and as its currently stipulated you will in all likely hood win the case.
  2. they have this in aarto, which is in relation to your license disk and not your number plate. But even if interpreted as being a license plate just make sure your bike is more than 150mm away from the plate and there is nothing they can do. 1217 Vehicle whereon appeared within 150 mm of the licence number anything which was not a component part of the standard equipment or construction of that vehicle - Reg. 35(6)©(ii) I 250 0 This one is more pertitant to a number plate. And since your numberplate is "affixed" just fine, they dont actually have grounds to fine you either. 1230 Vehicle with a number plate of the said vehicle not affixed thereto in such a manner that the whole number plate was clearly visible - Reg. 35(7)(d) I 500 1
  3. geecee so you know every single law off by heart that this wonderfull country has on offer?
  4. All these small towns are doing this now, as was my case at K2C last year, they were lying in wait for all the 5000 k2c entrants to see who they could pick off, hence thanks to them this year i refuse to support knysna itself I would rather go spend my money at plett come k2c. I also got my fine, looked the cop in the eyes crumpled it up chucked it in the back of the car and said guess ill see you in court. All my fines get linked to my banking account so i can pay them online, and that fine never appeared and I never got summonsed either, which is fine by me. I dont mind paying a fine when I speed or actually willingly break the law, but once they start hunting people that dont willingly break the law i draw a line in the sand.
  5. The thinner double sided tape you get at any hardware store stuck either to the camera itself, or to the bottom of the casing, virtually elimanates the rattle as it presses the camera snug against the casing. just remove one side so it sticks to the casing, leave the strip on the top side or you will have a messy situation But any decent editing software allows you to remove the soundtrack and to either leave it blank or replace it with audio of your choice.
  6. I have two mounts and i simply leave them on the bike, to cumbersome to remove them anyway, the handlebar mount I actually have in a forwards position, so that the camera is level with my stem, that way i dont have this thing sitting upright on my handlebar, And when the camera is off you dont even notice the bracket. The other one is on my seatpost, once again too much effort to try and remount camera's on trail.
  7. i have stuff i use to stop my goggles from fogging up when i go spearfishing, I use that on the inside of the casing, for when i use the waterproof housing. And it works to repel water of the outside too, but mud is mud and when it falls it shall stick.
  8. I dont know i dont get too much movement on the Handlebars, or seatpost, tried the chest and helmet and that just didnt work for me. I mostly mount mine on the handlebars.
  9. Hey mate all i know is that i run mine 1080 on a UHF class SD card, and i get perfect recording...... If you have the chance to test a mates SD card without having to fork out cash for the test, then go do it, whats the worst that can happen.
  10. Nope never tried, besides if you yell loud enough when you wipe it makes for funny clips
  11. Exactly the reason you get the "spongy" effect mate, its a buffering issue to your cam due the SD card being a bit slow. The higher the resolution the more data it needs to write in the same space and time. but as said earlier most people are happy sticking to class 4 cards at 720 or 960 since their home entertainment systems hardly differentiate between the three formats. Its only if you have some serious audio and visual kit that you will notice the diff.
  12. See at least now you know your preferences what class memory card are you running?
  13. I have gotten fined after k2c yeah cops were sitting around waiting for cyclists who didnt have additional numberplates and fined them by the hundered. Way to go Knysna makes me really want to go back and visit again . And as stupid as that law is it is the law, in SA nobody really knows the law but everybody throws the quote "ignorance of the law is no excuse" So by default every single citizin in SA should be an advocate according to the state. Rant off .... I just got a numberplate made and stuck it permanently on my back window, As quoted earlier "most bike racks make provision for a number plate" bollocks mate, only super expensive ones do, the entry to mid level ones generally does not. And i aint spending 8k on a bike rack to have a nice place to mount my number plate. And i beleive that bike rack retailers should warn you that if the bike obscures the number plate you will get fined, A lot of people are not aware of this law obvious as it may be.
  14. Hannes going uphill on ST is some of the best strength and balance training you will ever get, Its also generally the shortest way to the top . However that sparks the whole right of way debate, Which to me is still a no brainer. But yeah what can one do except accept that this is one of those debates that will never be solved as is proven on the hub every year.
  15. Mayhem if people actually had common sense your theory would work in general ...... people are just common without the sense.
  16. Though i do see now on the sanparks code of conduct it says Always Yield Trail. Let your fellow trail users know you are coming. A friendly greeting or bell is considerate and works well; do not startle others. Show your respect when passing by slowing to a walking pace or even stopping. Anticipate other trail users around corners or in blind spots. Yielding means slow down, establish communication, be prepared to stop if necessary, and pass safely. And thats taken from PPA/CSA so they obviously not think that both riders should yield regardless of direction.
  17. well its not quite so simplistic as that but go record on 720P at 60fps and then 1080 @ 30 and see if you notice a difference on your kit i.e. tv / computer. Some say they do most say they dont. I prefer the 1080 but its personal prefrence only. Never had any issues.
  18. Yeah your missing loads,,,,,, the human eye cannot process more than 25fps so there is no need to ever go higher than 30
  19. Mayhem actually youre incorrect most overseas countries apply that methodology, PPA and CSA actually has on some of their old MTB rule charters that riders going down have right of way. I cant find that bloody link now but i have posted it on one of these previous debates.
  20. It all depends on the quality of your SD card mate, if you buy a cheapy class 4 then tune your resolution down, if you buy class 10 or above you wont have any issues whatsoever.
  21. full 1080 with a 16gig class 10 card your battery runs out just as you run out of storage. Then once i edit them i make hi def ones for the library, and compressed to crap ones for the youtube.
  22. Yeah iron in the 4x4 world, theres not peace of singletrack ive ever ridden where you cannot stop and start again. thats in my mind at least the most useless methodology ever conceived in relation to a mountain bike. I can understand it with a car since you need that momentum to get over rocks and boulders and you can get stuck in sand etc. Which at the end of the day involves wenches pullies and big headaces. But that has nothing to do with MTB and does not take any safty measures into account. Hence if i ride up the ST i will ALWAYS give the guys comming down right of way. They got to the top before me, and they deserve the right to enjoy their ride. I simply have to clip back in start pedaling again to make it to the top so i can enjoy the ride down.
  23. Spesh riders just miffed as they always thought they had right of way... unless you took out that third mortage to get a spesh 29er that is.
  24. You seem to missing the point so ill just stop after this post., yes there has to be respect thats like stating you have to breath to live, fact is as long as there are not a clearly accepted set of rules, you will have situations like this, and its up to all trail centers, PPA CSA to actually go and officially define what it is and make sure people are aware of the rules, you have a much bigger chance of getting hurt with the current state of affairs than you do if people are aware who has to give right of way, sure its not perfect you still get accidents at 4 way stops with your car, but much fewer accidents since people know the rules of the road. Same simple equation applies to biking. As it is now its a question of A does the guy at speed see you in time, B who is going to be the gentleman and give way... Thats like playing russian roullette on a bike atm. And then one self important guy will invariable scream shout and swear at someone else, becuase there is confusion he/she thinks she is the most important person on the trail. If you go to a UK bike park, they Tell you who has right of way when you buy your permit, There are clearly marked signs who has right of way when you hit the trail. And they have none of our ****.
  25. Andro what we are saying here is that the guys going up, do so at a max of 10kmh, with little or no ambient noise around them and a clear field of vision, the guys going down at 30kmh, looking 5m in front of them and that are pretty much defeaned by the bike noises should by default have right of way. Its a simple equation for saftey. Regardless of the situation, not nitpicking you at all, but its human nature to think i am more important than the rest and that causes sitations like experianced by the OP. It should not be situational at all ,and should not be based on common sense since 90% of the populas have no common sense at all. It should be a general rule that people going down ST ALWAYS have right of way, and this should be published before trail entry and on the permits, it should be drilled into people so it becomes public knowledge. Its not just in the interest of fun (yes we all hate to break our speed) but its simply in the interest of saftey. The guy going up is going to hear you 500m before you get to him. The going down will see you 5m before he ploughs into you.
