  1. Closed according to whom? Your mighty authority? Oh please do forgive my eagerness to make a post.
  2. You have to factor in its the frame and the wheelset, the wheelset alone is worth about R5700 so your getting the momensen frame essentially for what around 6.5k +- That is a killer deal for a new carbon frame. with a warrantee that you can actually coin in, You could buy a chinese cheapy, but remember these chinese cheapies are generally not designed by the same level engineers as the top bike companies have, they are not tested to the same stringent measurments, and yes they are not made from the same carbon standards as the top bike manufacturers. They are made to be low cost, and like most asian products that arent made for western companies, they are poor quality. To them neigh sayers, the only company I am aware off that actually make their own carbon frames is Trek, I know of no other major manufacturer that has a carbon detail on their assembly line.
  3. Hey 5 years ago nobody wanted Rockshox ........ Fox was da bomb, now fox is just overpriced and people "generally" would rather buy RS. Suntour has three problems though. 1.. Branding, they are known as a low end fork supplier, I would have rebranded under a different name to get rid of that stigma. 2. Their model numbering/naming, in most cases it makes sense only to the suntour designers and is not very user friendly. 3. They would need to produce a better fork than RS at a lower price point, or a almost similar in performance shock at a lot cheaper price point in order to gain market share.

  5. Thanks boss now here is a more valueable post Not sure on what yo mean with the 2:1 ratio, you make it seem like SRAM uses 2:1 where SRAM uses a 1:1 ratio? One of the reasons why SRAM is easier to setup SRAM As far as breaking a derailure, that can happen yeah, remember shimano swings forwards and backwards so is a lot more leniant against those forces, where the SRAM does not hence the less chain slap on the SRAM. It is really odd that the derailure would break in that fashion, but like anything i guess its possible. I had a similar thing with an XT derailure that did'nt break due to force but it did misalign a bushing by about 1mm, and that rendered the derailure useless. Fact of life mountain meets bike = stuff will break. Its like when shimano brought out their shadow derailures, the low profile derailure shifting wasnt as silent or a smooth as its other shimano counterparts, but they did elimante the bottom cable loop, i.e. like SRAM's cable routing, which meant cables dont get as fouled up in muddy conditions. Still not 100% on par with SRAM but it did make a difference. I did however find for some reason that with the shadow derailure being in such a "relaxed" position stuff like grass and sticks use to get stuck in there quite often.
  6. And i am pointing out you have no idea what works well since you have nothing to compare it too. Anyway last post on this matter son.
  7. I comment becuase i have the experience and the knowledge i dont comment becuase i havent tried something and then claim to know how good or bad it is like you and one other, What i state is fact and backed up by people with knowledge of both and yet you argue. And you keep on argueing. If shimano didnt work it wouldnt sell, becuase SRAM works better, they are now outselling Shimano, so you can continue to render splatter on this thread doesnt refrain from the fact that you are in no position to compare or act like you have the knowledge to compare. End of Debate with you mate. Go buy SRAM test it for a couple of months and then we can continue this discussion. This debate with you is paramount to banging ones head against a wall to see if the wall will move out of the way.
  8. I fail to see the word uselss in there, i do however see the general flaws highlighted as pointed out by people with adequate knowledge on the various componenents?
  9. Rubbing hands with glee,
  10. Been there done that mate i just refuse to pay them fines. problem is now even worse since my wheelsize grew exponentially.
  11. Showtime show me where i said its uselss, And till you run SRAM and have gained enough experiance on both group sets, i would refrain from posts such as these but since you are a noob, Fact is if you dont have extensive experiance on both your biased since you like what you have.
  12. Cables do stretch actually, but generally will stretch in the first week or two of new cables being put on. Then you just retention them and you should be good to go. I only use teflon cables as they stretch less and last a lot longer, and its only slightly more expensive than normal cables. That said, new cables makes your bike easier to setup and tune, and thats why your LBS wants to put new cables on each time. It also forces you to come back to re-setup once they have stretched. So its double the business for them.
  13. fast dry conditions maxxis Ikon front / Aspen Rear Damp conditions Geax Suagaro front / X-king Rear Wet conditions Mountainking 2 front / X-king Rear I have tried loads of tyres and brands these are my favourites so far, that said the only brand I have never tried is schwalbe, but putting some on for the houwhoek challange this weekend, as i had some lying around, and they look like they will handle mud better than the Ikon I have on the front now, will report back on the rocket ron if I am still in one peace after this weekend.
  14. But you are arguing to point, So lets be clear you have no experiance on SRAM?, but yet you claim shimano works better in mud? You claim they are eaiser to setup than SRAM? You claim they need less maintenance than SRAM? As a bunch of previous posters have said, and has been confirmed by Cycle Factory, There is nothing much wrong with shimano its not a bad product, but ..... 1. They ARE more cumbersome to setup and tune. 2. They are NOT as good as SRAM in muddy conditions 3. They do need a lot more maintenance and tuning than SRAM. Yeah sure shimano works, hell been riding shimano for years, they just dont work as well or are as easily maintained as SRAM. And lastly shimano doesnt have gripshift which is a big thing in my book as well, thanks to the boys at SRAM for bringing out 10x2 Gripshift this year The last time i took my Shimano in mud were in conditions like the pic, and never again will i do that unless I have no other choice.
  15. Yeah the upgrade slush fund is ready and waiting, now i just need to destroy my current setup so i have a good excuse to dive into it
  16. Your one funny chap, but comming from tzaneen who can blame you. Yes my opinion is based on riding various XT/XTR groupo's for many many years, vs my experiance on SRAM now, Its also based on the opinion of all my mates that use to ride Shimano and now converted to SRAM. It is at the end of the day an opinion and based on experiance, seems to me that my experiance aligns with most other peoples as well. And why did i never try XT brakes, because they were **** prior to 2010, and my current avids have served me very well over the last 3 years, so no need to change till they break...... if they break one day. And no need to rip out your handbag for a bitchfight mate, if you love your shimano groupo then im happy for you. Truely i am.
  17. RIP fellow cyclist.... If they were drag racing i think they are pretty much toast, about 20 different things they can and will be charged with including murder. Manslaugther is reserved for legally obiding citizens that make an accident. If you are dragging on public roads its straight out murder.
  18. Yeah i love my avid breaks havent seen any reason to change them over. Tried a mates bike with magura the other day and it felt like he had no breaks compared to the avids. but havent tried shimano brakes besides the deore ones on one of my earlier bikes. 440's if i remember, its seems to be a personal prefrence due to the way breaks modulate rather than outright stopping power.
  19. Agreed, its all about toptube, the seatpost/downtube you can adjust, its all about the reach and the body position due to the reach, and that translates to having the right toptube length, by most bike manufacturer standards im a L and thats what i bought with my anthem, I always felt off balance and twitchy, went for a bike fitting, got a XL rocky and i feel like i am part of the bike, perfect balance. And im only 181cm. but i have a long reach (arm length) and its made the world of difference to my riding and my confidence.
  20. Depends on the bike dude go for a pro bike fitting to get the right measurements, i went from a large anthem 26 to an XL rocky mountain 29. Its bull to either stay the same frame size or go smaller. It depends on your reach and the effective toptube length of your bike. Once you go for a pro fitting, you have the measurements and you can determine the right size bike by simply looking at the specs, best money i have ever spent.
  21. Nah no fighting here this is the hub where everyones opinon is the "right one" but hey always up for a good debate.
  22. Thanks I am
  23. 35k for a new bike, one weekend away with my mates on a mtb mission .... priceless. i wont fix my car but be damned sure my bike's in for a service
  24. Anybody can tune XT with enough time patience and a couple of swearwords, its nowhere near as simple as tuning SRAM, Its nowhere as rugged as SRAM, much less noise "chainslap", and SRAM kicks shimano's ass in mud, i.e. i wont even think of riding my anthem with full XT this weekend on the houwhoek challenge since i know it will be a mudfest. As far a shifting, I notice no difference between the lower end SRAM and higher end XT/XTR shimano has on offer. Once shimano decides to drop their 2:1 ratio ill consider going back to it .... maybe. Yes Capri im use to XTR/XT: Bought my new bike came stock with SRAM, even put money aside since i thought thats the first bits about to go and im upgrading to XTR.... couple of rides and I have no desire to replace the lower end SRAM with higher end Shimano, like in none. That 8k is now going to a shiney wheelset rather. Ill ride the lower end SRAM till it breaks and then swap it out I wont go XX or X0 as i think thats a waste of money but ill definitly get X9 instead of XTR.
  25. Try a stage race or two lol I know you kill your kit on the DH stuff but once you go a couple of days hard riding, in adverse conditions being able to quickly and effectivly tune your bike during or after races becomes quite an essential thing. I cant beleive i didnt switch to SRAM earlier.
