  1. Getting 10 times as much since ive joined vitality in comparison to Multiply. But the first initial bottom line is a direct saving of R300 + of my gym membership. by default. 36 gym sessions a year is nothing, especially compared to being forced to go 10 times plus. 1 I travel a lot 2. I gym only for core training and spinning in winter. So most months i ended up paying full gym membership anyway. Momentum set theirs up for gym bunnies, not for outdoor athletes. Dont get me wrong i have gripes with Vitality as well, but its a far superiour product than Multiply.
  2. Yeah thats why i say educated them then you end up with the pricks being pricks and the uneducated knowing how to react and respond. It will also go a long way to making the sport safer.
  3. Cant remember the extact figures but its R400 and something for my monthly membership Momentum multiply fee 120 something If i gym the maximum (more than 10 times) a month they cover about R200 out of that R400. So you still end up paying R300 a month for your gym. Discovery Gym 4 times a month, = 100% saving.
  4. Yes it actually is, ever done a stage race? ever sat in a race briefing? They explain the rules the signage, etc, And they do this every race for seasoned riders. They can do the same for these one off races. Hell most of them are PPA organized. If you read my previous posts Heman you will see that I understand congestion and I have no issue with it. And I am of the opinion if you dont like it improve your seeding. However, that said. if people get educated in racing conduct from the start it will go a long way to improve relations between various groups of riders. Like i said most poeple are not obtuse they are just clueless. Give them a flyer, your not gaurunteed they wil read it but if they do they will understand that if you are not fit enough to cycle up the hill dont impede the cyclists that can cycle up that hill.
  5. What would go along way to helping is the organizers giving out a little pamphlet explaining racing ettiquete, i.e. when you get off your bike try and avoid the walking on the racing line, if someone shouts track acknowledge that you will pull over at the next safe available opportunity. When passing indicate to the person in front which direction your passing. And dont just sneak up on people etc. Most people that dont race often are just clueless to these things, and some even think you are rude if you politly ask for track. The other half, once they realize your behind them actually appologize for being slow and some even pull over and dismount so you can pass. Its not all doom and gloom. But once again if your stuck behind someone be polite, ask nicely, and if they oblige say thanks. It doesnt cost a thing. And mostly just enjoy the ride, take the good with the bad, nail it on the clear sections make friends on the congested sections.
  6. Then the reba is the perfect shock, you could get away with a recon gold, but the reba so much more of plush Cheapest option is the 2011 Reba RL or RLT. basically the exact same shock the one you just have to adjust with a tool, the other you get a knob but its no biggy you dont play with that particular setting much.
  7. What kind of riding do you do, social fun, singletrack some racing etc. Get the 2012 Reba, basically the same weight as last years SID. And excellent all round performance. Can get a 2011 reba for cheapish excellent shock as well just a tad heavier. Fox is too expensive with too much maintennace and no real performance difference to the RS. (My opinoin anyway)
  8. Good to hear the op went well, speedy recovery
  9. Tehcnology has advanced leaps and bounds, the days where it was a 50/50 op is apparently over. Look at Bob Skinstad, he had discs fused after an injury, was out for a couple of months and then started playing again. I might have to go get an op due to an old judo injury thats steadily worsening, not my fav idea but i have made peace with the fact that it will happen someday.
  10. What i can't figure out is it looks like he saw the car tried to cut left next to the wall to pass through the gap, how the hell did he end up hitting the car on the right hand side of the tree?
  11. +Many Many
  12. i get what your trying to say, but hey for 50% of the field they enter to see if they can finish the race not win it. They are a bunch of peeps challenging themselves. And thats why the message i am trying to get accross here is simple, if your doing it for fun or just to finish you will have a crap seeding at the back. if your a decent biker you will get seeded somewhere in the middle and if your good you will have an A or B seeding. So if traffic is an issue for you get your seeding up. Also whats good for the goose, I bet the OP got held up on the ST but probably got his arse kicked by the same person going uphill after the ST. being a good mtber your not just good on the technical stuff. And if the OP was good enough on the hills the downs and the flats, he would have been able to drop the noobs like yesterdays newspaper and would have been able to catchup with the middle groups who can ride ST ... mostly
  13. Almost all alu frames are mass produced mate, that said on your size frame you will get between -1.3kg to 1.4kg on about a thousand of them. The differentiating factor is not the weight its how well they are designed. How good their geometry is how balanced they ride. And for that you cannot go wrong with morewood, canondale, etc. Bikes with racing pedigree. That was just desinged to be .... right
  14. Dont make no diff after 10km they will be off brown sidi's
  15. Yes people are that stupid Caerus, they have no idea as to what etiquette is or what they should do in situations like that, well in the back echelons of the races at least once you start doing 50+km races people have generally attended a couple of races before and you dont get that sort of thing happening since you end up being seeded and riding with people more or less your own capability. I only found that on the short races when i started and when i attempted the longer races and i was still at the back of the pack. Once your in the middle to front of the pack you hardly ever get that type of scenario. And till your good enough to ride with people who know what they are doing, simply ask the oblivious people nicely to give track. They will shift. And if your serious about getting a result in certain races. then make sure your seeded at the top. I use a specific race as my benchmark race, I have to travel to three races before that one, one in knysna, and two in the karoo, to work on my seeding for my target race. Costs a fortune but thats one of the few races a year that I want to be in top of pack. And thats just becuase its my personal goal to achive a good result. If i pitch up and i havent seeded myself and I start in HH then i only have myself to blame if im stuck behind people that dont know any better.
  16. The @#$#@ statemnet was aimed at the general mentality not at you, so take some valiums and relax a little. And your last sentance you basically admit to everything that was said in the previous post de facto creating a type of farternatity, which it is if you want it to be or not. Same as Down Hill riders, Motocross riders, Road Cyclists, Mountainbikers they all have similar ideals in their group and thats one of the factors why they do it. And the only thing that makes you a MTB rider is grinning ear to ear and challanging yourself and enjoying it mate, Doesnt make a smidge difference if your elite or if you have to walk around a switchback, as long as that person is having a ball, people like the OP will just have to deal.
  17. Ok so give me your methodology here, act like a dick ride like a dick be a dick? you still no 756 you are just now making it clear that your a dick? Honestly i didnt peg you down as one of those.......
  18. Most alu frames are a dime a dozen in that size for a 18" bike hell 3 years ago my 6k silverback phoenix wheighed in at 1.6kg. Id rather focus on geometry like a morewood kwela. on canondale.
  19. I think your missing the point, its not about going fast or going slow its about having fun. So i refer back to my previous points made, if your not a top 10 or even a top 20 rider drop the @#$#@ attitude. Im pretty well seeded in most races and i hardly ever have congestion problems, but sometimes i ride with mates from the back in races, and those are the ones thats an absoulute blast, you mingle you chat, make friends, fix other peoples bikes that dont know any better and have a bloody good day out on the bike. If your number 756 out of 4000 and some dude falls in front of you and you get cheesed of at him,,,, im sorry mate that makes you the biggest @#$kwad out there. If you want to go to race make sure your A or B seeded. otherwise go and have some fun in the sun rain mud mist whatever the flavour is that day, your not that important that you can diss some guy thats A firstly fitter and stronger and ahead of you, because you think your technically apt. Yes i also agree if you dismount or walk try and do it off the racing line, and people arent doing that just politly ask them if you can have track or have the line, they always oblige. But if your going to be a prick about it, like the OP then FTW i hope he walks 25 out of 30km on his next race. He is obviously a noob to racing and has a shait seeding.
  20. No they wont its a decent attempt a plagirism since its a cut and paste jobbie, but it does emboy what MTB use to be.
  21. There’s an increasing number of people converting from road cycling to mountain biking. This is a good thing and not really surprising considering how little is being done to improve safety for cyclists on our roads (why did Cycling South Africa not focus on this before creating a week-long Tour of South Africa ...for a handful of pros?). I call these converts dirt-roadies because even though they are riding a mountain bike, they’re not really mountain bikers – well not initially. Some of them graduate to being mountain bikers, but many just remain dirt-roadies – here’s why: Mountain biking is first and foremost about fun and freedom. For a mountain biker, the purpose of every ride is a good time, not a fast time. Dirt-roadies are eternally fixated on speed or riding faster than someone else. To them, a fast time is a good time and they won’t start a ride without a gadget that will measure their physical performance on one or more levels. Sure, there is a place in mountain biking for racing and performance measurement and we have the world-class pros and packed racing calendar to support this. But why should every ride become a race? Mountain biking is also about the challenges of riding over varying terrain and natural obstacles like ruts, rocks, roots, steep climbs, sharp drops, long stony ascents or descents, switchback turns, river crossings, mud, thick sand, low branches etc. Dirt roadies feel justified in complaining about this. This is mountain biking, not club cricket. It’s meant to be challenging, unexpected, stimulating and sometimes scary… Mountain bikers embrace variation in terrain. Mountain bikers do not need kilometres and kilometres of man-made manicured trails and smooth singletrack to keep them smiling. Mountain bikers expect the unexpected. Mountain biking is about enjoying the outdoors. And being the outdoors, this includes taking whatever the weather conditions and incorporating them in the experience. Mountain bikers do not complain about rain or heat or wind, they appreciate this is part of being outdoors. There is appropriate clothing for all weather conditions and choosing the right gear and consuming the appropriate nutrition goes a long way to improving the experience. It’s called planning ahead. Mountain bikers are good at planning ahead. Like I said earlier, I welcome the conversion of road cyclists to mountain biking. I just want to see more conversions from dirt-roadie to mountain biker. It’s not difficult and actually leads to a far less stressful life. Promise.
  22. They are a monopoly dude they have bought out every small time operator with the same idea. The only one that resisted is planet fitness and they cater for a different market. So VA is not too bothered about them for the time being.
  23. Its on the 500 so should be on the 705
  24. Yup theres no reason for a 20% increase but its targeted as a luxury at a market they suspect can afford the increase, Im not arsed since vitality pays my membership fees. Its basically the same as DSTV just try and get passed a call center agent or a reply on a mail, they know they have the market and no matter how hard you complain they could'nt care less. Since if you want what they got you will fork out and pay for it and you will have to deal with the often rude, mostly non-existent service they offer. Its a luxury item once again. In the UK you get a choice of multiple gyms and as an example satelite providers, where for R300 bucks you get uncapped 20mbit internet and 500+ channels to watch. it shows you how we are being ripped. What we need is a proper methodology to regulate "market leaders" aka monopolies.
  25. Momentum is useless, even going the compulsary 10 visits a month you save something like R100 bucks of the total monthly fee, once you add the deficit amount and the momentum monthly fee.
