  1. The immigration agent I used suggested that I include a statement along the lines of: "I plan to visit some friends and do some sightseeing while evaluating the suitability of New Zealand as a country for me and my family to live in." in my visa application itinerary. That way you make your intensions clear.

  3. Have any of you noticed how much broken glass we have on the streets of Auckland (North Shore)? I commute to work by bicycle on most days and it is ridiculous how much glass there is on the road - mostly beer bottles. They sweep the roads often, but it does not seem to help. The broken glass is the one bad thing that I did not expect. I do not understand why people feel the need to litter.
  4. Where is this? We also pay $50 per visit.
  5. This cartoon appeared in NZ Herald on Monday after the Christchurch shootings. I agree with it completely. The hate we spew on social media does have consequences.
  6. Did you see the Cartoon in NZ Herald on Monday? I agree with it completely. The hate we spew on social media does have consequences.
  7. PostNet CBD https://www.facebook.com/postnetptacbd We had the completed forms, scanned it and mailed to PostNet. They sorted the rest.
  8. I think 150k in a 5 person household is enough to live quite well, even in Auckland. You won't be buying a house or an expensive car, but won't have to feel like you are missing out on something. That is if the children are in school and you do not have to pay for Kindergarten.
  9. Learnt yesterday that the punctures will find you, no matter what... A piece of wood tore a hole so big that I had to through away the tubeless tyre.
  10. Golden rule - think for everyone else. Glad it wasn't too bad - get better soon!
  11. I found that I had to come here to get interviews and find a job - and even then the employers was sceptical about my commitment to move. I maybe had 2 skype interviews over a 6 month period that came to nothing. Once here it was a lot easier and had a job by the end of the first week.
  12. She wrote it again on 12 May. Still waiting for the results but she does not feel very positive - and that after studying very hard for it. Too little time seems to be the biggest issue.
  13. My wife had to do the academic IELTS for nursing registration, also requiring 7 or higher in every section. She passed well with average above 7, but 6.5 for the writing - so she has to do it all again. Looks like the academic writing is quite difficult.
  14. Parts of your commuter bag can be stripped an used to keep your pants up... 3 Months commuting and the first time I forget my belt.
  15. I used www.enterprise.co.nz It took them a while to respond to my enquiries but became very helpful when they heard that I had my job seeking ticket booked - I guess they had too many no-shows in the past.
  16. Netso! Hanteer elke mens wat jy ontmoet soos wat jy graag hanteer wil word - dit is 'n goeie begin.
  17. I have been following this thread for a long time. Some very good information on here. I appreciate the honest opinions many of you have shared. At last, I have my visitors visa approved and will be coming to Auckland at the end of July on a job finding mission - C# Developer. I am extremely excited - hopefully, I will join the many happy ex-South Africans in New Zealand before the end of the year.
  18. My new On-One Luv this bike.
  19. Received mine this afternoon. Very Very Nice!
  20. My sympathies to the riders and their families. I admit that being hit by a car is my biggest fear as well. But, do remember that cyclist are just road users. Nothing more special than pedestrians, drivers or motorcyclists. Maybe if cyclists stop thinking that they are a special kind of road user, we will realise that a good many pedestrians, motorcyclists and drivers die on the roads every year. Traffic rules should be enforced and guilty parties punished. Period. No exception and no special treatment.
  21. Some friends and I are planning a trip to Bela-Bela on mountain bikes. Cycle there, spend the weekend and then (maybe) back again. We are thinking of taking the R101. Not very far, but: Anybody done this before? Is it save to cycle on that road? Any suggestions to make this ride safe? Any alternitive route suggestions? I am very new to cycling and would like your comments. Thanks
