  1. I don't know much about the chain manufacturing process, but this does not sound right (at least not for all the parts of the chain) The rollers are exposed to lots of wear, thus a 10 micron nickel plating would not last. However, the little bit of surface rust that I sometimes get on my chain is perfecly harmless. Nothing to worry about.
  2. I'd replace the chain first. Take it for a short ride and run through all the gears. If the chain "jumps" replace the casette there and then, if not, leave it. Bike shops tend to "urge" you to replace stuff way too often!
  3. Not answwring your question, so this is a real dusch post, but I'm waiting for someone so have nothing better to do... I'm not much of a tight pant guy, but the best I've had so far are the first ascent cycling baggy pant. They're also strong, so there's no more unecessary ass showing after you moer off your mtb in a rock garden
  4. Also been riding crossmark ust for 3 years. I think its super robust and had my first puncture was after more than 2500km. I would recommend replacing after 2-3 yrs if not worn out yet, because the rubber gets old and that's when the punctures start. Not good for mud though and grip seems to be average. To be fair I haven't compared it head-on with many other tyres, I ride them cause I hate fixing punctures!
  5. Just came back from groenkloof, first time in 2 years since I've been there last time. It is absolutely rocking riding!!! Smiling so much right now people must think I'm retarded... Thanks to the trailbuilders and park management, really an honour to ride there!
  6. sometimes on the hills I ride a bit upright with only my fingertips touching the handlebar to steer. That helps a lot. Only my MTB makes my hands numb, the road bike is fine
  7. jip, take a flat object (knife, screw driver, flat spanner etc.) and wedge the pads open. My brakes also rub the discs every now and then, don't really know how to sort it out completely, but if it gets bad, I loosen the whole brake pad assembly and tighten it slowly while I have the wheel running. It is normally pretty good afterwards.
  8. IMO wet lube is the only answer for long distance rides. Re-apply when you start to hear squeaks.
  9. I just started building multi-purpose bike trailers for touring, children whatever. Prototype has been tested, so will be building them to sell early in 2011. Let me know if you're interested.
  10. Allways wondered if there's someone out there who deserves a HTFU t-shirt. Think we just found him
  11. i hear you guys saying its a "have to have", but WHY? Is it an issue of complying to the race rules, is it due to water temperature, or is it only the bouyancy (spelling???) and energy saving aspect?
  12. No, not buying a tt bike or tri-bars either. I'll look on the website for the "rules", but not keen on spending the money unless its absolutely compulsary. I do tri for fun so not stressed about saving the time etc.
  13. I've been told that it helps you float better and it'll probably be faster and require less effort. I'm not planning to win though, so just want to know whether its compulsary. Maybe due to temperatures etc?
  14. I'm planning a lot of racing for 2011 and all the travel and entry fees are expensive as is. Do I need a wetsuit for IM or is it a "nice to have"? I would hate to pay R3k just for 1.5 hrs of swimming
  15. It is the world's second largest cycling race... I guess its just appropriate to draw some attention to the hub. 5-10 odd threads are not so much I would think What do you suggest? Some more thrads about white pants and powerbands
  16. I also relized how huge it is here after being overseas a while ago. We've got more events in a month than other countries have in a year!!! Me thinks this is only the beginning...
  17. Sorry about the ligaments dude. I guess I owe you a thank you then
  18. So happy, just have to share it... Was on the waiting list and just got an entry into IM 70.3 Thanks to whoever it was that cancelled, you just made my day whoohooo
  19. On a similar note... We got the word earlier today that we have lost a potentially big tender to a large corporate. Everybody in the office was pretty down until one colleague said: "well, that's probably a good thing - now we will have more resources available when a bigger job comes around next month" This super optimistic comment made me thinking different about things since. Maybe some other organizer(s) will take this opportunity to start a better event at a better time of year that can attract a "pro-tour" field? Must also admit, I didn't like the name anyway
  20. eish - too much Attakwas IM 70.3 Xterra Buffelspoort Sabie Classic Argus MTN Clarens IM Karkloof Sani2C Knysna? Imvelo classic (swaziland)? Bike-tour in Namibia - still to plan Trans Baviaans CraterCruise BSG Tri Series (gauteng races) 94.7 cant do them all, so will have to throw out a few. Sooooo much good events in this country!!!
  21. how do you guys manage to weigh your bikes so accurately? My bikes pretty heavy and I wondered how much, but never got so far as to actually find a way to weigh it?
  22. Don't have a tv, nevermind hd, pvr, dstv, blue ray and all that high tech lingo... I try to go to gym on tuesdays so that I can watch supercycling while running on the treadmill! Same reason that the tour de france is soooooper good for my run training. Love cycling, love watching it!
  23. Thanks! Just read on the box, and it says that berocca has roughly 10X the RDA for all 3 types of vit-B? Why would it have 10 times more than you need, hence the need to pss out huge amounts of it... What's the sense in this?
  24. Okay, so a few weeks ago I was feeling real shite. Allways tired, long work hours, hard training, poor diet etc. At that stage I couldn't do much about the work situation, so figured I'd drink some vitamins (I never did that before, at least not on a regular basis). Since then I've been drinking berocca once a day, work calmed down, tapered down on training and right now I'm feeling great. What would you reckon is the role of vitamins/berocca here? What got me wondering (excuse the detail) is that those fizzy orange tablets make my urine as shocking yellow as pine flavoured energade... Allways thought that dark urine was a bad thing, supposedly a sign that the kidneys are taking shots. Any comments on this please? Please don't suggest 20 other types of vitamins that I should try, just want to know if it is normal if the stuff colours your urine, and whether its a bad thing or not.
