  1. SP you hit the nail on the head. I raced 2 races where guys felt the right hand shoulder was the place to ride. Insanity! and then they shrug and say "that is racing, if you are not tough go home". No way! it is irresponsible, stupid, and inconsiderate. For me I would rather plow up Groenkloof with my face than race on the road. (at least I will be responsible for my own broken bones.)
  2. Once you have reached Ideal weight then play with your equipment. One noticeable trend is for many people to train on clunker single speeds, and then race on the fancy bikes.

  7. To think that in the 1970's they were already planning for the 1990's and 2010 traffic. AWESOME.

    MTB Tyres

    geax
  10. start with the frame and fork. (If it is a mtb you need to consider the shocks) Then add a group set (brakes, shifters, cluster, derailers, crank, chain, cables, BB, and head set.) Add you wheels, (tyres and tubes) then the extras, saddle, seat post, stem, handlebars, handlebar tape, computer, pedals, cleats
  11. 4:30 arrive, 4:45 start. Sounds good. Bring a light.
  12. anyone interested in a late afternoon ride?
  13. yup, less risk of a wipe out on a dual at night. The ss is very fickle.
  14. I do 40km from Centurion to Gerhardsville through some rural stuff then back past villa mora/laudium and zwartkops racetrack...am wondering if I cross this reserve in the process' date=' cos the route is fairly untouched/ not developed. Would not say that I feel 100% safe when doing it though.[/quote'] The area just north of the reserve, ie between Ladium and VTH, used to be very nice area to ride with long decents and climbs. However, the dump is now closed and now people are dumping around the military cemeteries. It is now an embarassment.
  15. single speed, rigid fork, v brakes, wait, what about a steel frame On-One has some nice ones.
  16. no, you cannot, as it is military ground. The Pretoria military cycling club hosts three races a year which uses this terrian. You can enter these races at http://www.cyclelab.com/default.asp?Id=188&des=content The first on is on 29 May 2010.
  17. TT position tends to be over the front of the bike, in order to make your seat post angle steeper. Many people move their saddle forward and up when using TT bars. Others don't. Always remember to be comfortable.
  18. u need to ride them tyres in. in order to get the sealant every where. Sometime it even finds its way around the tube and into the spokes.
  19. answer: my corsa takes campy wheels without a problem. Italian BB.
  20. no more than R8000. But consider campy on such a machine. It is just the right thing to do.
  21. cyclewife, as a guy that used to train on the roads often, and someone who commutes to work, all I can say is that cyclists don't care about their own safety. I have taken to mtbking for my own sanity. If I fall then it is my own fault, not the cars. My attempts to get cyclist participation and interest in thinkbike about two/three years ago failed due to cyclist apathy. Every week a cyclist is killed and the response is a lot of ranting by cyclists and then no action. It is sad that even those who have lost friends and family to motorcar accidents weep cry and then do nothing. I have taken my wifes concern into consideration and now train on mtb trails and only race on the road occassionally.
