  1. Well done on completing the 8 miles. I swam in event 4 and 5 (with the wife and kids after they pulled out of 4). Event 4 was rough with the swells, wind and currents. Prefered line is on the left of the course so I normally stay on the right and I've never had any issues with bumps etc.
  2. Whereabouts in Akasia are you? Wife and I ride MTB on the roads from Akasia to Florauna and PTA North which is a good workout with lots of climbing. Used to go out to Horns and Zilkaatsnek but it doesn't feel too safe these days on the open road. A few routes and riders on Strava if you're on that platform otherwise feel free to PM me and we'll get together for a ride.
  3. Force them all to buy and register e-tags.
  4. If you took the time to read the comments below the post from Mr Rossouw you'd see the reason for Prof Noakes's article. It was never meant to be a scientific study and he never claimed that it was. It was merely placed so as to inform the medical fraternity of a alternative treatment available to certain medical conditions. I look at it this way. If an amputee regrows his lost limb and his amazed GP notifies the rest of the medical fraternity not via his email list but via a respected medical journal of this feat would we all be up in arms about it? Lets say the amputee claims the only thing he changed was to eat a lizard a day. What!? a lizard a day? That surely can't be good, can it? His doctor may not have an ample supply of lizards or amputees but there may be a specialist out there who has. Then the studies start with control groups and different lizards etc. Point is that Prof Noakes shared his observations with his peers who now have an alternate view to kick of their own studies to prove or debunk his observations.
  5. A few times along the route where I unlocked the front shock on the fast downhills. Was contemplating a road bike for a fast one next year but I reckon I'm gonna stick to the knobbly 29er. Was also a section of road at a intersection (close to Witkoppen I think) where it looked as if someone had built a sidewalk in between the 3 lanes with the tar pushed up.
  6. Thats where the big crash was with 3 or 4 riders. They all looked quite eina. Apparently one of the heavier metro ladies was also knocked down whilst she was trying to split the riders left and right of the carnage.
  7. We started a little charity in the 94.7 last year called "Cycling for Pathways". The principal of Pathways Roodepoort thought it would be a good idea to ride the full race this year on a borrowed bicycle. Just so she could understand what all the riders go through on her behalf. After walking through the expo and with limited funds one of our riders pointed her in Linden Cycles direction. She bought some kit from them (cleats, shoes, pedals and some clothes) and wanted to know if they could help her install the pedals on the Large mens bicycle she would be using. The assistant took one look at her and told her he'll be back to help her and disappeared for more than half an hour. Shockingly he then appeared from the back with a fully kitted medium Schwinn bicycle and helped her to do a full setup. The bike she could loan from the shop at no extra charge. A truly amazing gesture from a super shop!! Well done to Linden Cycles for helping her finish the race on her first attempt. I for one will go the extra mile to support you guys.
  8. Any news on some of the patients from yesterday? One of our riders from Cycling for Pathways managed to resuscitate a suspected heart attack rider after he fell over next to him. He left when the medics arrived and took over the heart massage. We all hope the rider managed to pull through.
  9. A whole lot of Craft Epic kit at Solomons in PTA north. I've managed to build a whole wardrobe up with all the years I haven't cycled the Epic. Now I just need some calve implants to go with the kit.
  10. Excellent work.
