  1. That's a good point, I didn't have my phone number anywhere in the ad text, you have to be logged in to click on the phone number to see it but as pointed out in the post above this it's probably best to not have your phone number in the ad at all so people can only contact you via Bikehub chat.
  2. A guy just tried me, all the usual red flags: Replying to my wanted ad but via whatsapp Whatsapp shows as a business account Starts making massive reductions when I asked if the price is neg Says will send a wheelset for R99 via postnet and does it all the time(well I know an idiot that made the same claim but that's a different story) Then when I ask for close up pics of one part he suddenly says his phone can't take nice pics. He claimed his name is Ryno but Trucaller shows his name as Pj Osmerg. Number 0719347847 / 071 934 7847 and I don't know his Bikehub handle because he claimed a friend sent him my number but he knew my wanted ad was on Bikehub.
  3. Unfortunately this isn't a wheelset that's worth spending much money on, it's mid level OEM set, solid but nothing special. That being said if the hubs had been in decent condition it would have been a wheelset that I would have been happy with. These 26er rim brake wheelsets don't come through often but they aren't too expensive, I'll just have to bide my time until something comes up. Unfortunately I missed the set below that sold for R500 recently, it even came with a good cassette and a set of slicks, that would have been a pretty sick wheelset: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/mountain-bike-wheels/533297/ritchey-pro-girder-26-mtb-wheelset
  4. WTF, you stopped communicating over WA long before this thread was even a twinkling in my eye. You are outright lying now. But I honestly would love to know what I did wrong during our chat on WA, I really felt I was being decent. Only the cones were needed for the wheels to be sorted, I even sent pics of the damaged cones so that you knew I wasn't trying to pull a fast one. When I asked if the one cone that you found would fit that seemed to trigger you. Bike spares aren't terribly universal and I wanted save the hassle of getting the wrong part, as I mentioned previously I even sent pics with vernier measurements of the 3 cones to make your life easier. And I sent my bank details yesterday to you for the refund as you requested, you read the PM and it's been crickets.
  5. Dude after all I went through with this seller, he promises to send me the spares and then just blocks me, I still don't know why. And I agreed to a refund many posts back and I sent Robert my bank details yesterday but it's been crickets.
  6. The buyer seems to deal in bikes, he had one wheelset initially that I was very interested in but had issues that I left and then he contacted me down the line about this one. The point being is he knew what I was looking for and it wasn't a wheelset with stuffed hubs. As I have said a few times this thread isn't about the money, it was more getting off my chest how strange the experience was. I still don't know why the seller did what he did.
  7. I have a really nice vintage Kona, pretty much all original, an absolute beauty and I love riding it but it needs a new wheelset.
  8. I hear you but as I said this was more about principles. Getting these wheels from Robert was a long and tiring process even before they arrived and it became more than just about the money. This dude is just taking the piss and I had enough. During the whatsapp conversation that spanned a few months hub smoothness and what hubs I was looking for was brought up quite often, which is why getting a wheelset from him with hubs that were so stuffed was more than just a surprise. Granted reading back on the whatsapp conversation I see there were a few red flags with how he conducted himself, so I have to shoulder some of the blame for where I currently find myself. But as I said previously this thread is more about getting it off my chest than anything else, so what else can I say but thanks for reading.
  9. I looked at that and at around R1200 incl delivery for 3 x hub cones and who knows what other surprises these wheels may hold I gave it a miss.
  10. Bru read the whole thread, you could feel the crunch in these hubs when you spun them, it wasn't mild and Robert is no noob in this game. I'm fine with a refund, I mentioned that a few posts back. What model was your Shimano hubs and where did you eventually find a cone?
  11. Unfortunately the problem is you can't buy the cones for these hubs in SA even if you want to because Cool Heat doesn't bring them in. Apparently even on relatively recent Shimano hubs you virtually have to buy a whole new hub if you need to rebuild it. He says he'll refund me and he'll take his wheelset back, I have sent my bank details so lets see what happens.
  12. It's a fair point about the value but sometimes you just have to stand up for your principles and this dude's fk you attitude wasn't cool. The issue wasn't hidden and he knew about it, he never once disputed what I said about the condition or showed any surprise when I brought it up, never apologised either. And I wasn't a dick about it when I brought it up, I just asked if he had any spare cones. I'm not sure how your story relates to mine seeing no one misrepresented anything to you but I'm sure you enjoyed recounting it, which is ironic seeing you are calling me out for making this thread which is really just me wanting to get the experience off my chest.
  13. "So send me your banking details so that I can refund you for the wheels which are still in perfect working condition." "they are still in better condition than most 2021 wheel sets" Eeish, still doubling down on this logic, anyone that buys from Robert better be mighty careful if they see the item looks like it's in good cosmetic condition 🤨🙄 Sending me pics of random sht that clearly won't fit is not helping me and I went out of my way to send pics with vernier measurements so that it would make it easier for you to identify what would work. But yeah what a waste of my time, I get the feeling you just enjoyed holding the power over me when you realised I couldn't get the parts anywhere else. I have sent you my bank details.
  14. Your shipping mess up is besides the point, I feel sorry for you but that was your choice from beginning to end. My problem is you were not upfront about the wheelsets issues and you lied about the condition of the hubs. Your exact words above "I admitted the wheels to be smooth" but they are not smooth and that was plainly obvious when you spin them, which you also admitted you did do. Seeing how little those wheels must have been used I can only see that damage coming from being overtightened but whatever caused it is besides the point, you don't a free pass to be dishonest just because something is old. And the hubs being stuffed isn't a minor issue, that renders the wheels unusable for me, I either need to repair the hubs or find a wheelset that is genuinely in good condition, not just in good cosmetic condition. I'm not buying wheels to hang up on the wall, I need to ride them.
  15. I guessed what you paid at Postnet was the problem but it's hard to have sympathy for you about that Robert and neither is that an acceptable reason to choose to be a douchebag and screw me over. I specifically asked you how you would be able to send a wheelset at Postnet for R99 because that only covers 5kg volumetric. And in any case what's wrong with admitting to your mistake and letting me know Postnet is going to be ridiculously expensive, we could have rather used a courier which you said was around R160. This was your replies regarding me questioning you being able to send it at Postnet for R99: "Yip, two wheels are less than 5kg 😬. I send and receive about 3-5 packages per week 🤪" "I am 100% sure yes, if there's any additional fees I will cover it. I have received and sent wheels in the past"
  16. Sorry I forgot to add pics of the cones, here they are: Rear drive side: Front cone one: Front cone two:
  17. Robert claimed he could send the wheels for R99 via Postnet, which I didn't believe and said as much because the volumetric weight would be over 5kg(what the R99 will cover). He said he was 100% sure and if there's any additional fees that he would cover it. The waybill below shows a volumetric of 20kg which should cost around R400 to send. Which may go some way to explain his current unwillingness to help me but if he did only pay R99 I would love to know how he managed that.
  18. I bought a set of wheels from user RobertWhitehead they looked to be in great condition but arrived with the hubs needing a rebuild. The hubs are Shimano loose ball type and the wheels as a whole have very little signs of use but it would appear the hubs were overtightened at some point, they were overtightened when they arrived, they did not turn freely and were notchy. The fact that they had issues was plainly obvious when you spun them and Robert must have spun them because he said the wheels ran true when I asked. His description of the hubs was "pretty smooth". When I brought the issue of the hubs up with Robert he didn't dispute it and promised to send the parts to fix them, I needed 2 replacement cones, ideally 3(2 cones were completely stuffed and one was on the way out). He found a match for the back hub and then he stopped responding to my whatsapp messages. I left it for a few days and then pm'd him on Bikehub in case he'd lost his phone or something and he did respond and said yes he has been ignoring my whatsapps because he's now decided the wheels are old and I can't expect them to be in good condition both cosmetically and mechanically and won't be sending the parts. The 4 bike shops I contacted all said the spares for these hubs are also neigh impossible to order from Shimano. It's a 26" rim brake wheelset, they were R600 which is pretty much the going rate on bikehub, they are the typical OEM wheelset of the time with Jalco rims and Shimano hubs. It's not a huge amount of money but the principal of it feels wrong, that a seller feels entitled to knowingly sell you something that is damaged without making you aware of that fact. So the question is am I being unreasonable here to expect a seller to be upfront with issues? What would an acceptable remedy be? The thread heading refers to Roberts own thread regarding getting sold something he wasn't expecting: https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/188074-am-i-being-unreasonable-here/
  19. Hope are machined from billet, from what I understand the kind of thing that's happened to your calliper should only happen on cast aluminium where the porosity can allow contamination like salt in and the expansion from corrosion can cause cracks and catastrophic failure.
  20. Posting here in the hope someone has something stashed away.. I'm looking for a decent 26" rim brake/V-brake wheelset, preferably with Shimano hubs with dust seals like the LX/XT/XTR hubs Alternatively also looking for decent loose 26" rim brake/V-brake compatible rims and hubs. I have a really nice vintage Kona that I have built up but the wheelset is toast and rim brake 26" wheels are not easy to find Seems if you don't hammer it using some disc specific rims will work but I'd prefer not to go that route. I'm not expecting freebies, just let me know what you have!
  21. I just noticed on the Whatsapp about contact page the scammer is calling themselves Natasha Mariusz, number 0738835633.

  24. Got a scammer replying to an ad I posted on Gumtree, Truecaller picks their number 0738835633 up as "Classifieds Scammer Natasha" so they have obviously been scamming with that number for a while. "[17:31, 20/11/2021] +27 73 883 5633: I wish to let you know that I'm satisfied with the conditions and i will like to inform you that am buying the item for my Family [17:31, 20/11/2021] +27 73 883 5633: so i will be the one responsible for the pick up and delivery stuff.kindly get back to me with your full name and address so that i can forward it to the pick up agent to calculate the pick up fees for me."
