Event Name: WCAD Series 1: Franschhoek Adventure Race (60/100km) When: 4 February 2012 Where: Old Bells Lodge, Berg River Dam, Franshoek, Western Cape Category: Multisport Adventure Race with short (60km) and long (100km) options consisting of a combination of Trail running/trekking and mountain biking in the beautiful Franschhoek mountains. Watch Event Promo Video HERE Date: 04 February 2012 Location: Berg River Dam, Old Bells Lodge Starting Time: 08h00 Race Registration: Saturday 04 Feb 06h00 Team categories: Official – Mixed pairs, Unofficial – Open Men’s/Open Ladies pairs Disciplines: MTB, Run/hike, possible rope-work All disciplines will require basic navigation All rope-work equipment will be provided by race organisers *The race is unsupported, (no seconds required) All teams are required to have 1 race crate/bag with suitable gear/replenishments for a +-20km run/hike and 30/40km bike. This needs to be clearly marked for your benefit. Water will be provided at the transition area. Transition boxes to be kept at transition at 07h30 at the Race vunue Basic navigation on all legs Maps to be collected on the morning of the race upon registration No other maps or navigational aids may be used during the race, any teams found to be using Google Maps, Smartphone maps, etc will be instantly disqualified. Consider this event instead... https://www.bikehub.co.za/events/event/329-wcad-series-leg-3-ceres-80km-adventure-race/ although shorter in distance... the adventure aspect means you will be out there for almost the same amount of time...

There will be a "way round" the abseil but there is also a zipline (foofyslide) that is less avoidable. Problem being that if you are not up for an abseil then you might not enjoy some other aspects of adventure racing... just so that i dont get bombarded with unhappy triathletes after the race.... Adventure Racing involves: Navigation... by map and compass... managable for novice tho. getting lost... when the above doesnt pan out how you expected basic ropework (abseil) supervised and gear provided bundu-bashing sometime the shortest route is not on a path/road sometimes the onoly route is not on a path/road That said.... if you are up for an ADVENTURE then you will absolutely love the sport!!!!!!!!

With Challenge Cape Town "Postponed" you might want to put your hard earned fitness to some use... Adventure Racing is undoubtedly the best kind of Multisport around!!!!

Well said Steve... the WCAD series adventure race would put your hard earned fitness to great effect! The 80km course will be a "Challenge" in itself. Winners expected to complete the course in 8 hours and back markers in 14 hours so should make for a good day out. At R500 per team of two it is also relatively AMAZING value for money. The third and final race for the 2011 series takes place in and around Ceres on the 12 November 2011. The race will be between 80 and 90km depending on route options.
