  1. cool, it sounds like they're about right for me. I see Linden bikes is an apparent stockist... Where did you get yours? I'm happy with R200 if i can avoid the shipping thing. Hope you get used to them soon, i find them very useful for leverage on any decent climb.
  2. Yep they are the ones in that link. Thanks for the info. What do you think of them so far?
  3. Evening Hubbers, Anyone used the Momsen Design bar ends? Looking for a length but can't find the details anywhere. They look about the same as the Ritchie which are about 85mm. They look pretty sweet and the cost and weight are all great. CWC doing a great job again. Any ideas?
  4. Just go for the old tube. Its quiet and simple, the expense in cable ties is unlikely to break the bank even better if you know Johan's super double ended tuck method and its free. Just take it off every few weeks, or put a layer of cling film around the chainstay under the tube to stop the grit getting to the frame.
  5. Thanks for the advice, was worried about bolting the carbon stuff and not exceeding the torque tolerance. Looks like santa will have to exchange the really cool little toys for a torque wrench.
  6. Saw the recent thread on buying a torque wrench, I'm not in the financial position to spend a grand on a torque wrench so for those like me out there... what is 6Nm in terms of when we stop tightening? I understand the concept of Newton Metres but how on earth do i know if i've gone to far?
  7. Still waiting...4 years later. After they gave me the wrong competency, did the rifle so i could get an old British 303. great rifle....they gave me a handgun and a shotgun competency...now they won't even consider my rifle license because on all the systems it says i have a handgun and shotgun...been through 3 re-submissions of paper work...one guy lost it in his car and admitted it was there on the weekend at some point 3 years ago. Randburg is a absolute mess. Now given up. The really sad thing is that the gun has been sitting there and now can't be sold to anyone else either as half the paperwork is done the other half lost... Tragic.
  8. Have you run them before? Do they stand up to a good beating?
  9. Out of interest what do you call a very good price for an XTR. Are they much bettern than the XT? Always a little worried about XTR durability and maintenance.
  10. I'm running SLX at the moment, i agree it is great value. Looking to upgrade. I am looking for a triple ring though, depsite the weight saving of the 2x10, just because the 10 on the back would require an whole new groupset and i've just upgraded my shifters FD and RD.
  11. Afternoon Hubbers, Looking to fork out on a new lightweight crank set for XC riding...looking for advice/experience and recommendations. The alternatives seem to be the Truvativ Noir, The FSA K-Force, the XTR or RaceFace i know there are a bunch of others and would like to hear from anyone with other ideas. All seem pretty expensive so want to make at least an informed choice.
  12. I already have the bike so haven't got much swing that way. Just wanting to refine my setup.
  13. The two LBS' offer the service for R350, is this average for bike fitting? having never done it i have no idea what fair.
  14. Afternoon all, Looking for some advice on mtb fitting in cape town, trying to fine tune my setup for my new bike. Anyone know of a good reliable service, (not breaking the bank)?
  15. Thanks Johan, I'm certainly not worried about the mug and bean street cred. I am a light rider and want to find the best climbing/marathon wheels i can get, so a light XC wheel would be good. I'm happy to invest some more cash in making sure i can perhaps service them myself and slightly lower maintenance costs, and can take a bit of abuse, mud water the rest i'm taking the machine ti NZ and the UK so will need to be resistant to poor conditions. Being a wheel builder, What would you recommend?
  16. Evening Hubbers, Looking for some advice on a new lightweight XC wheelset. Been asking around now for some time, and there a mixed opinions....as always. Most advise a mixture of stans olympic rims, DT swiss spokes and a variety of Hubs, Am i correct in assuming that there is no warranty on custom wheels? Factory options are the AC MTB26, the XTR the Crank Brothers, Easton XC one. The AC is the lightest and has been recommended by the LBS and at R4000 and 1.5kgs and warranty not a bad looking option. Can you build a better wheelset for under R4000? All you comments are much appreciated...R4000 is still quite a bit of cash to spend so want to make the right choice.
  17. If you were looking for the perfect sealant/tyre mix you could cut an old tyre of your preference up and use different sealants on them to see which ones delaminate/corrode the inside of your tyre. Never tried it but been recommended the approach.
  18. Which sealant are you using? A large number of tyre producers do not endorse the use of any sealant for exactly the reason you've found. I can't even remember who the manufacturers are who do endorse use of a sealant and then which sealant that happens to be. I do aggree with you completely, have been using Michelin XCR dry dual compound and thise things deteriorate very quickly, not even 400k's from them. Top of the line UST tyres will cost more than my 4x4 tyres!
  19. Just got my Carbon hardtail resprayed but a guy called Alex works a bit with the people from Epic Cycles, He's a professional airbrusher, did a good job. Otherwise contact www.pureart.co.za. Most jobs will cost you about R1000 i reckon. PM me if you want Alex's number.
  20. Evening all, Looking for a decent physio who can get me back on my bike and over this intercostal issue. Got some advice from a couple of hubbers and want to try a different treatment. Have a good weekend everyone.
  21. Not sure what that means, can you explain so i understand what that does?
  22. Afternoon all, Need a little advice, i tore an intercostal muscle about 6 months ago, it healed and i could ride then i injured it again fixing my car. I now can't ride because everytime i get my breathing rate up it pulls. Physio is at a loss and hasn't seen this injury before...and apparently its really hard to train/strengthen. Has anyone else out there had to deal with this? Most gutting as two weeks before it got bad again i brought myself a new carbon hardtail, only been round the block since!
  23. I used to ride the spruit alone every morning from FPC to Emmerentia and back and never had any problems...the biggest pain i had was crossing william nicole at the bottom of republic at 8am. Way i see it is be silent and quick that way no-one gets the chance to jump out before you're gone.
  24. So the anti-friction and non-compression merketing is just a gimic? or only needed for pro riders? You're happy that standard shimano run with continous housing is the best option?
  25. Howsit, fitting a new gear cabling system and hoping for some advise on which ones are best. Any idea? The Gore seems to be good but expensive the other options are the Transfil flying snake (?) and Mudlovers. The price is certainly an issue and at R770 for the Gore in SA it may be worth a package from CRC.
