All HC's bikes are beautiful, so I get where he's coming from. I try get it right too, but I am never truly satisfied with a build - never. My next bike will be a Colnago or Cinelli, so that will be the acid test. I hope I will do them justice - not for anyone else but my own sense of the aesthetic.

Not that bad. The splash bar-tape is a definite fail, though. I've definitely seen (and built) far worse!!!! One never stops learning...
  7. I've never been one to really follow track cycling, but last nights session was really exciting! Tempted to try it now!!!
  8. Those names too!!! Is that a Giro D'Italia bar? Just put one on my DuToit. Love 'em! Took the manky new Pro bars off and cut the stem down to its correct length for the headset. Will post pics soon.
  9. +100 Those lugs are what made Hetchins famous! Good job!
  10. Jealous!!!! All the talk of Italian bikes has got me thinking very expensive thoughts!
  11. @ R10k, a bit too rich for my project fund right now. Would love to own it, though.

  14. google translate sucks!
  15. Those straight-bladed forks get me! Gorgeous!
  16. I don't know..... 16th in the Olympic road race is pretty excellent (to me, anyway). Then again, I did not watch it, so you are probably right about De Groot.
  17. Triple triangle, anyone? 1950s Thanet Silverlight, and the inspiration behind my bike's name One has to ask oneself: was GT really so innovative? I think this is a beautiful bike, and way ahead of its time.
  18. I see that that Ashleigh came 16th and Jo came in 28th (both in the first chase group) at 27 seconds. Robyn finished 48th. Really excellent results, i think! Well done ladies!!!!!
  19. Hey George, Your bike is gorgeous! Love the finish. Congrats.
  20. Very, very pretty! Congratulations. Brett
  21. Okay: it was quiet at work, so I read the entire thread over two nights. Suffice it to say that I am very impressed at the quality of the bikes as well as the knowledge of bicycles presented here. I hope this thread carries on growing, and that more people recognize the beauty and magic of these bikes.
  22. I love "pottering" with my bikes (as my wife calls it). I have learned so much playing with my bikes and can now do all my own work. I love bringing a classic steel bike back to life, because they do have souls man! They have the power to make us happy (when we are not swearing at why the f@!ing thing won't go in!!!!!!)
  23. Consider Greg Lemond: He was a childhood hero of mine: an amazing athlete, yet humble and approachable. He was (and is) a very human hero, just as capable of failure as he is of excellence. He was not a bully, treated everyone with respect, and dealt with his own shortcomings in a very human way: by accepting them. He never resorted to drugs to enhance of prolong his career, just accepted that at that moment on that mountain, his time had come. As an elite athlete, he also knew that you could not maintain the output of massive wattage for extended periods. It was just not physically possible. He lost his bike brand and a large part of his credibility, yet he never compromised. Boring, it may have been, but this year's tour was a very human one. It would be interesting to see how different the output of wattage would compare, say, to the 2002 tour. So for my part: Sorry, Greg, I should have believed you.
  24. Can vouch for sufferfest, but downloads take an age!
  25. They won't ride the Tour together again. My prediction is that Froome will ride Giro and Vuelta, Wiggins will defend the tour. Froome will do Suisse and California, Wiggins the Dauphine and Romandie. Look for a high profile acquisition of a very good climber, because Wiggins won't be able to rely on his time trial next year. Contador and Schleck can put 3 minutes into him on a hard mountain stage - imagine Wiggins isolated on the Galibier, or a multiple-climb stage ending on top of the Ventoux. Never the twixt shall twain, dear friends. The honeymoon is over. I cannot wait for next year. Methinks it will be a climber's tour. Just the sort I like. Think I'll book my campervan now
