  2. Posting on behalf a friend, Devin Shortt, who has spent the past seasons racing in Europe. He is doing the Zwift Pro Academy where the winning rider is awarded a professional contract. He's looking to rent a smart trainer for the month of September. The trainer needs to be a direct drive trainer (Wahoo Kickr or similar). Obviously, he is happy to pay a negotiable rate to rent the trainer as well as a cash deposit. If you are willing to help out (or know of someone) please send Devin a Whatsapp on 071 402 0731.
  3. Did my first commute this morning! Was great and will definitely continue doing it. Thanks to everyone for the route advice. Although I only intended to begin doing this from December on (when I move to Obs), I decided to give it a test run from my girlfriend in Rondebosch. Here's the Strava link.
  4. Awesome, thanks Milky & Co for the suggestions. Super helpful
  5. Just had someone PM me with the same route suggestion. Will plot it out. Thanks so much!
  6. Hi all I will be moving Observatory side soon. I work in Tygervalley and I'm considering a morning bike commute. My first intuition is that the route is probably not all that safe. Below is the proposed route more or less. Does anyone have experience commuting through the various areas: Maitland, Goodwood, Parow. Any alternative suggestions would be appreciated.
  7. You're correct. Initially, I was of the opinion that one doesn't accidentally ingest heptaminol. The more digging I did, the more plausible it seems. Actually a lot of stuff that contains it. Fact remains that he satisfied the anti-doping tribunal. That does count for something.
  8. Heptaminol has seen previous high profile positives. Fofonov and Georges. The drug is easily available in France and I'd assume other European countries too. It is sold over the counter as a "specified substance". Heptaminol is mostly used to treat low blood pressure. It is also found in Kynoselen (anabolic steroid). I suspect his given a defense of accidental ingestion. It is a very weird substance to ingest accidentally, but the defense has satisfied the anti-doping tribunal it seems. Of course, the court of public opinion will have their say too. It is plausible that there was some accident - possibly a clueless doctor with a prescription. But blood pressure meds is one hell of an accident.

  10. They are tubeless compatible: http://www.visiontechusa.com/go-tubeless/
  11. Great idea, but please don't run Campag Bora if you don't have a Campag groupset!
  12. http://www.visiontechusa.com/products/road/metron-40-clincher/ Hands-down the best wheels I've ever ridden. I've ridden these everywhere: SA races, hardcore European races, Belgian kermiskoers, on cobbles, on gravel, on smooth roads, in gale winds, in wet conditions, in blistering heat, up mountain passes (the big French ones), down them too. Now, not trying to brag about where I've ridden my bike, but I want to point out that these wheels are amazing. They roll like Zipps and are as bulletproof as a wheelset can come (it's even used for Cyclocross). I will quite personally get a trophy crafted for you if you manage to damage them. I once broke a spoke in a crash during a training and had to do another 100km to complete the ride. Held up without an issue whatsoever! Pretty light at 1500g, but not the lightest. I am currently running mine as tubeless (Vittoria Corsa tubeless-ready @205g per tyre). This easily knocks off 200g for inner tubes and are virtually puncture proof (been running the same setup on training wheels for 6 months without a puncture). I wouldn't run any wheel as tubeless, but these are tubeless compatible, so it makes up for the extra weight. I can't rave about tubeless enough: - Virtually puncture proof - No pinch-flats - Significant weight-saving - Rolls faster than tubbies and clinchers! AND! They are usually about R25k locally. I'm heading off to Europe soon, so if you're not in a rush, I could hypothetically pick up a set for you and hypothetically bring it back. Just send me a PM!
  13. That's strange. Could've sworn I saw a Team ASG rider in the elite bunch using disc breaks on every stage (except the final stage). And might I add, he did so without penalty.
  14. I spotted this thing way back in December. http://image.prntscr.com/image/aba232cd056845ee8821ddd2e9c9f0f0.png
