  1. How cute, a guy transporting his e-bike on his motorbike. If he runs out of petrol, he still has a battery to get home.....
  2. It was a hard two weeks, the run gave me some release, but the funeral was only the following Saturday, so I was in a state of emotional limbo for the week before and after the run. All I can say is cherish and treasure the time you have with your parents while you can. No-one lives forever.
  3. This has made me very weepy, considering that my father passed away the Monday before he was supposed to have supported me at the Rhodes Run.
  4. But ASA after extensive investigations, and after pretending to watch hours of video footage have determined that the winner of the ladies race paced her husband for 200 meters at the start of the race, and against all instructions obscured the ASA advertising banner from the television camera with her arm for three seconds on five different occasions, and furthermore actually entered an "assisted" race, which the ASA incorrectly used as a qualifier race or the SA team, with the intention of not qualifying or if qualifying, not accepting selection for the SA team. Furthermore, she brought ASA, and by implication road running, into disrepute, by pointing out that the interval between Comrades and the 100km world championship was so short, that even Wonderwoman on EPO could not recover sufficiently, AND also pointed out that only someone who had inherited the Gupta wealth could afford to train for both comrades and the 100km World Championships full time without financial support from ASA.... For this reason she no longer is seen by ASA to have won the race, even though she did...
  5. What does a bicycle shop know about electric motors and batteries? Rather go to the auto electrician for that.....
  6. But the run in below zero temperatures and in the snow........
  7. But we have to lick the tar clean before we are allowed to run.......
  8. Both have motors, ergo, motorbikes. The source of the fuel, electric or petrol is irrelevant. As soon as there is a degree of energy capture, storage and then motorisation, it is no longer a bicycle. The thing that makes bicycling the way it is is the directness of human effort to propulsion, having a battery/ fuel tank to store energy and a motor to supplement direct human effort makes it a different game altogether.
  9. Nice e-bike, when do we see it on the trails?
  10. In Pretoria in summer we train in 35C, and that is not hot........
  11. e-bike, motorbike, same thing......
  12. I think this is a very innovative idea that can be developed. I think the solution is to syncronize the lifespan of the vest with the duration of the licence, say 3-5 years. Also if there is a sign off with the supplier controlling the collection of both retail price and licence fee in one transaction from the club it could work. I think we could put together a number of scenarios for this.
  13. I like the idea. If the clubs run the thing, with an option of say a bi-annual or even a five year licencing option to reduce the need to replace the vest annually, it could work. However, with ASA milking the sponsorship banner for funding, the idea of bi-annual or five year licence may not fly. Also control and certification that money has been paid for the said duplication of the licence on the vest may be a concern to ASA, as they will want to protect their income stream. So the kink in the idea will be twofold, firstly control over the licencing process, so that a set number of vests will be ordered by X club, who will supply a block of licence numbers and shirt sizes and this will be controlled by an ASA/club official, with money being paid over to ASA and ANATOMIC. This will require a large dose of co-operation from ASA, the club structures and the athletes. Secondly, having a mechanism to prevent accusations from ANATOMIC's competitors of monopoly behaviour.
  14. Nice idea, but that would require a new vest every year...... and it will be difficult because there is a degree of individualising for each number, also clubs may be against being tied into a clothing agreement with anatomic and not another supplier, and lastly delivery times between the issue of the number by ASA to the club and the order and delivery by anatomic. (ASA has routinely issue the number at least a month late for the last few years).
  15. This is similar to the ASA mindset about how race numbers may be worn over the ASA cloth numbers. You may not cover or obstruct the advertising banner on the ASA licence in any way, and you must wear your ASA licence on back and front even when alternative race licences are issued by the race organisers. This means you have to stagger your front numbers on your vest. This places three layers of paper/cloth over your chest on race day, which kind of defeats wearing light, breathable clothing in the first place.
  16. First rule, is any run is better than no run. Second rule, if it is short it must be fast Third rule, LONG SLOW DISTANCE Fourth rule, start slowly. Today's fast is tomorrow's slow. Today focus on today. Fifth, Train the terrain you are going to race. Sixth rule, don't over train. Always leave a bit in the tank for tomorrow. Seventh rule, listen to your body. Rather have a bad day and end the session early than have a flat week or worse an injury. Eighth rule, race and then recover. So race infrequently and give yourself time to recover. The mind often takes more time to recover than the body. Ninth rule. Specialise. You have to run fast to race fast, and run far to race far. And so on and on.
  17. Drink lots of beer, it deadens the mind to the pain. Rub in lots of ICE MAN or Arnica oil which will deaden the pain a bit. Consider drinking lots of MSM or Omega oils and magnesium. Stretch lightly.
  18. My mind is in the gutter, but that is one of the best descriptions of a woman I have read for a long time.......
  19. Rest, with an ice cold beer in the right hand and feet up on the sofa....
  20. Bastille Day is a race for the future. However, Rhodes next year is on 29 June, so yes maybe there is a chance to recover (2 weeks) and head out again for Bastille day. Just have to book plan tickets early....
  21. There are no cold runs, only bad clothing choices. Rhodes run started in -9 degrees. My hydration pack pipe was frozen for the first 15 kms......
  22. Identity politics, like populism, is one of the lowest form of political reasoning. It is common in countries where there has been war, poor education and opportunistic politicians. It is the politics of the gut rather than the brain. The final conclusion is to slowly define the "them" with more and more detail until the "us" remains to be the clan and the family. Typical example is the EFF (ummm). It started with the simple white-black divide, and when that no longer was enough (largely because the whites were just so apologetic about being white) then a new enemy had to be created and a new animal farm (analogy here folk) had to be found and suddenly not all "black" were oppressed equally and the new enemy was the Indians. When Durban is burnt to the ground then it will be the coloureds (mixed races) and finally the Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana ext.......
  23. Thank you. Finished in 6 hours 39 minutes, if you are asking
