  1. We have a very different struggle, gents. Please forward all weight lost to me. Currently sitting at 67kg at 13% fat (I’m 183cm tall) and would love to be around 76kg at 10% fat.
  2. Exactly. And smashing your phone in your jersey pocket would be the least of your issues in the case of a crash of that calibre.
  3. Bra! I laughed so hard at this. Sheesh!
  4. Have at it. There are SS specific frames and there are conversions. Mine is a Tarmac sworks frame.
  5. Naught. I don’t back the model of supporting an LBS for its own sake, as my financial priority is my own bike and getting quality service. I do, however, back quality mechanics regardless of where they work and someone who loves your bike almost as much as you do is worth driving out to, even if it’s a little further than convenient. Take your bike where it’s looked after.
  6. I guess there’s a roster. You drew the “quality service” card and the rest of us got the crumbs.
  7. Bru, I literally only go there if Donny is on duty. Phone beforehand or ask for him on arrival. The guy is top drawer calibre.
  8. Exactly my experience at the Specialized store in George yesterday. The owner might be a rad guy “when you get to know him” but he sure wasn’t a great brand ambassador yesterday. So much for ‘rider-first engineering’ when store owners make you feel like *** for your current s-works model and are keen to get out of helping you as soon as humanly possible. Too bad Concept Cyclery Bryanston isn’t at the coast on holidays - Donny is a legend!
  9. I mean, super rad prices but are they crash tested? Don’t want to face plant off a bike and then have a nurse removing shards of plastic from my face because these things shatter. Maybe ideal for casual wear but oakley lenses are impact-tested, which is comforting knowing that even if you lose half your face in a crash, you can still see.
  10. Those top coats are a micron thick, and the bike minus pedals comes in at 6kg.
  11. Custom built SL4 Tarmac s-works commuter. High gloss raw carbon off-set with metallic gold. 45SL carbon rims, full carbon besides stem and handlebar, Shimano Ultegra brakes, gold chain. Custom respray by Andrew Harris in Durban and built by Marko from TrailWolf Cycles in Pretoria. Detailed it myself. Machine polished all clear-coated surfaces using the Rupes LHR75E, then coated with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light ceramic coating (5 year life span), and finally topped off with Gtechniq EXO v4 hydrophobic coating (18 month life span). 6kg without pedals.
  12. When I was a student I cycled to Uni and one day a chop decided to turn in front of me. I landed on his bonnet and all he did was lean forward and told me to get off his car. All I can say is that having those two front togs on the front of your mtb shows leaves a sweet dent in the side of a car as it drives off and leaves you bleeding on the side of the road. I have a zero tolerance for people who don't obey the rules of the road and if someone is going to threaten my life in any way, I'm going to fight for it. Who cares about being polite "in case our paths cross again". If you try injure me with your car, I am going to retaliate.
  13. "One less car" I ride my Specialized Stumpy single speed s-works to work. It's my favorite bike. I rate it higher than my Tarmac s-works and Epic s-works but it's a lot more work on hills and a little frustrating on flats.
  14. "FNB is not bike friendly. (i.e. they have no secure place to park your baby, and security have a coronary if you try and take your bike with.)" I concur. FNB Fairlands is not bike friendly either. I feel amped after cycling to work and then sit the whole day in a mild panic wondering if my s-works is okay in the basement.
